Chapter 27: It was just sex

Rachael flicked her exhausted eyes open as a yawn escaped from her lips. She looked to her side, but Xavier wasn't there. Probably he had gone to work. That meant she was late too, but it didn't bother her a bit.

The memory of the previous night shot through her and a smile crept on her cheeks instantly. It aroused every single nerve in her body, awakening her once thought dead sex life

She slipped out of the bed quickly but soon regretted it. She felt sore and her legs numb. God, she had to go to work today. How could she pull through? Probably if this was done on the weekends, it would have been more bearable.

Rachael managed to walk to her room, took her shower, and put on a black dress. Her hair was strengthened by her, giving it a more neat look. All this was done with Xavier on her mind. The need to impress him also stayed on her mind. As much as she wanted to finish up the look with glossy high heels, she couldn't because that could effectively diminish her ability to walk.

***Fast forward***

Her shaky hands knocked on the door of Xavier's office as she pressed her lips together, waiting for a response.

"Come in" she heard his voice and tried to stable herself more as she walked inside.

She bumped into a brunette lady who walked out through the same door she got in. Rachael knew all the employees of this firm and that lady wasn't one of them. The way that lady dressed, cleavage out and dress shorter than a bikini, was unacceptable in an office area. Her loud makeup also pissed her off. Racheal's heart broke at the realization that this might just be yet another Claudia.

"Rachael" Xavier called out, moving his chair from side to side.

Rachael gave off a smile nevertheless, walking closer to his table.

"You are late"

"Yeah..." She bit her lips. "I overslept" okay this wasn't how she imagined things with him, especially after the encounter she had with him last night. He wasn't stiff as usual alright, but he still wasn't as flexible as she had expected him to be.

"You can go," he said plainly, taking her by surprise. Was he just going to pretend like last night didn't happen? She didn't expect anything spectacular from him, but not complete ignorance.

"Should I get coffee?" she inquired, pushing her time with him further.

"No that's fine," he mumbled briefly

Rachael nodded like a lost dog and turned to leave. She was about to depart through the door when anger streamed through her. Her fist curled up by her side as she turned to look at him once more. The pretty nervous smile was gone. A stern look overtook it.

"Are you just going to pretend that nothing happened?"

"Miss Anderson...."

"Rachael. You seem to have loved that name while you were ramming into me yesterday"

Xavier chuckled at her outburst. "I don't know what the cause of your agitation is"

"Oh Lord," Rachael groaned in frustration with gritted teeth. "Are you going to pretend like it never happened?"

"I am aware of the fact that we had sex and I'm not denying it" he narrowed his eyes at her. "But I don't know what else you expect from me"

"More concern and... "

"Attention" he completed the statement for her. "Well you have it now"

Rachael lost it. "Are you being serious now?"

"Yes I am Miss Anderson"

Oh, he did it again. How much she resisted the urge to go over to where he sat and gorge his eyeball off. He deserved it.

"You are unbelievable"

He stood up from his chair while Rachael glared at it. He took steady steps towards her. "I don't know what more you expected. We are both adults, sex isn't much of a big deal"

"Not much of a bit deal" tears welled up in her eyes. She didn't fight the urge as it flowed down her cheeks. What was she expecting? A brand new Xavier who would confess his love for her and not be such an asshole. Oh, how wrong she thought. "Fuck you" she sobbed and walked away.

Xavier twisted his tongue against his cheeks as he relaxed on his table. He hated it. He hated the way she cried because of him. He hated how he couldn't make her happy, how he couldn't tell her things she wanted to hear. He just couldn't. With all that came the dark side of the whole aspect. If he ever allowed her into his heart, that meant he was also going to allow her into his life and it was too dark and dangerous for someone as precious as her. Love was something he couldn't risk twice. He did it once, but the after-effect was too drastic that it shattered his once warm heart. Now all he was left with was void and a strong inner self that wouldn't let anyone get in no matter what.

Rachael walked through the foyer of the office, wiping her tears off. The last thing she wanted was to be caught crying especially by Claudette who wouldn't rest until she found out every detail of her tears. All Rachael wanted to do was lock herself in an empty room and bawl her eyes out. He finally said it_ It was just sex. That word stung her heart more than she had expected, filling her with deep regrets. At this point, nothing sensational happened between the two of them. It was just normal sex between two fully grown adults. Probably she should have had that in her sick head before assuming any sick fantasy.

Rachael opened her office door and immediately the tears she had been fighting back, rolled down. Her heart ached so bad that it got even harder for her to breathe. No man had ever broken her the way Xavier just did.
