Chapter 29: Brutal, just like his father
He breathed in sharply "when I was younger I had hemophobia (the fear of blood). My dad knew that" he stopped to give a dry humph. "He knew that, but he insisted I went to medical school. I couldn't stand the sight or even the smell of blood. My father noticed my deterioration at the medical school in the sense that I passed all tests, but did poorly when it came to practicals. He called me to come home one day, which I did. He took me to a warehouse I had never seen in my life. It had an immersing smell of blood and sweat. I heard the sound of groaning and struggles. Turned out, a man was getting his ass beat up. About three bodies were at the side, heaped over each other with a gunshot wounds and blood dripping from it. I threw up three twice and I was also confused" he paused. While tapping his finger nervously on his lap.
Then he looked at Rachael who already stopped crying, paying keen interest to what he was saying, and continued "I was disturbed. I knew my dad was strict, but I didn't imagine he would kill anybody. Even when I tried to peel off my eyes, he scolded me, saying I was man enough to behold such. Well, when the man had been beaten to a pulp. They left him and my dad handed me a gun. I had never used a gun in my life. He cocked the gun for me and told me to pull the trigger. I stood devastated, staring at the man on the floor who was almost lifeless. His sad eyes were kept on me and it still hunts me to this day. When I couldn't do it, my dad took a gun from one of his men and pointed it at my leg. He said if I don't shoot, he would kill me. At this point, I was trembling. The screams my dad shot at me got to me and I eventually pulled the trigger. Although I was supposed to shoot him only once and leave my dad's men to finish the job, I shot him repeatedly about 6 times. Surprisingly, I felt nothing"
Rachael gasped.
"My dad was taken aback by what I did because he didn't expect such brutality from someone like me. I too didn't expect such an outburst of anger and adrenaline I had that day" he took a break again, biting the corner of his lips with regret visible in his eyes.
"On the day he shot my mother and left, I rushed to her side, trying to help, but all my medical intellect went out the window. She said something to me. She told me to forgive, my father. Even after all he did, she still wanted me not to detest my, father. She eventually died"
"Did he get arrested?" Rachael asked, curiously.
"No, he didn't. My father was so powerful and smart too. The police had nothing on him. I hated him, even after what my mother told me. Just couldn't forgive him. During the funeral, he dared to show up. He knew that I knew he killed my mother, but he still didn't care. I remembered when the funeral was over and he had finished shedding fake tears, he walked over to me and told me, “ I'm sorry Xavi” those words stung my heart, but I couldn't do anything. My mother was the only one who called me Xavi and his saying it made me angry. The only thing he could do was say sorry like it would fix anything" he paused. "I hate that word"
"Where is he now? "
"He went into a coma last year. He was shot in his hand on a 3-story building and he fell off. I don't want to see him again"
His eyes held misery and it felt like Rachael could feel every emotion he spewed. She sat there mystified, not sure of what to do or say. He hated the word sorry, so she couldn't say that either.
Xavier was the first to break the silence. "I think you should check on your sister. she shouldn't be left alone at a time like this," he let out and Rachael nodded, getting up from where she sat
She had taken just a few steps when she turned to look at him once more. "Thank you for being here for me" she mumbled under her breath. Xavier nodded his head at her and she continued working.
At this point, Xavier had no doubt. He was sure of how much he loved her. The persistent need to protect her and make her happy was the only thing that surged through him whenever he saw her. Her eyes on him felt like electricity, coursing through his veins, igniting his body in a surreal way. The feelings he caught were unpredictable and emerged so fast. He wanted to love her and adore her deeply, but he was scared. Magnus was already hounding for her, if he found out Xavier was in love with her, that would only motivate him. Judging from how heartless Magnus was.
