Chapter 34: They were nothing....
The sunset that crept through the tiny creek of the curtains, reflected on Rachael's face. She flicked her eyes open as an exhausted yawn evaded her lips. Her hands rode across Xavier's chest who was still asleep. With a smile on her face, she ogled at him. He looked too flawless under the sunset gleam as his olive skin shone like pearls. The sight was so beautiful that she had to ask herself if he was real. She resisted the urge to run her fingers across his thin lips while he slept.
Her hands caressed the tattoo on his hand and different questions went to and fro in her head, but couldn't ask any of them because she wasn't going to get a response. Xavier was too uptight to let her on his secret.
Even though she was in love with him, it didn't diminish the dark strange energy he endlessly emitted. The way his eyes held a lot but his lips just happened to withdraw all of them. She wasn't a therapist but she could tell he was a shattered man.
"How long are you going to stare?" his voice startled her. She flushed in embarrassment the moment his eyes landed on her.
She pressed her lips together "I was just about to get up"
"Of course you were" he gave off a suppressed laughter.
"How long have you been awake?"
"The moment your head left my chest" he stared at her intently with his green eyes looking more vibrant than she had ever seen.
Racheal blushed a bit, "so you are that sensitive?"
Xavier didn't say anything as he stood up rubbing his tired eyes, taking some time to access the room. Rachael found this act cute.
"This won't affect the office a bit right?"
He turned to look at her. "What do you mean?"
"You left work today" she explained.
Xavier gave off an inaudible laughter. "I'm the boss Rachael. I don't have to answer anybody"
"Right" she nodded. "But you'll pull my head off if I didn't show up at work with the excuse of having sex"
A jealous scowl appeared on his face. "Of course"
Rachael laughed.
"Are you going somewhere?" She asked when he got down from the bed.
"Yes I have to be at a place"
"Where?" she asked nosily which made him look at her in disbelief before going inside the bathroom.
He took a quick shower and was out in no time. "I'll send someone to deliver food here" he mumbled from his closet.
"Oh no. I would have loved to have a taste of your" she made air quotes. "Italian dishes" she teased and watched as he poked his head from his closet, pointing his finger at her.
"Don't you dare" he snapped playfully at her and Rachael couldn't help but chortle.
After putting on a grey sweatshirt and pants, he left.
Rachael was slightly disillusioned by his attitude. He wasn't obligated to anything, but Rachael wished he leaned over to her and kissed her lightly on the lips or cheeks, telling her he loved her, but in reality, that couldn't happen. And she doubted it would ever happen. Probably he even saw her as he saw Claudie_A naive woman who he could take advantage of_. He was Xavier Callum and could have plenty of women at his feet. There was no guarantee that she would be the one who he finally decides to end up with.
She did it again. She let her paranoid self take supervision of her thoughts. Now her once ecstasy-filled heart whirled into grief. She slipped off the bed and grabbed her clothes that were scattered around the floor. The thought of running to her room naked came to her mind, but judging from how big the house was, she could get glimpsed by a guard. She reluctantly wore her clothes before leaving his room.
Rachael dragged her feet down the stairs. She intended for a cold, shower, despite the weather. Probably it could help her from speculating too much. Her plans were cut short when she saw bumped into Chloe on the stairs.
Chloe took a long look at Rachael with a confused look on her face. Her hair was messed up and her clothes were turned inside out. "What the fuck happened to you?" She asked in a puzzled tone. "Wait a minute, you came from Xavier's room" she figured out and a mischievous grin appeared on her face.
"No... No, don't look at me like that" Rachael couldn't help but blush endlessly.
"I was fucking right" She snapped her fingers in laughter, clapping her hands. "You two match. Like he's hot and you" she stopped to take a long look at Rachael. "You look terrible this evening".
"I can't with you," Rachael said amidst a Chortle.
"Y'all just keep reminding me of how single I am"
"We are not dating" Rachael blurted out.
"So what are the two of you?" Chloe asked with keen interest.
Rachael felt blank. She couldn't think of a term to use to address their relationship. It was at that point she realized, they were nothing. She was just having sex with her boss who had no feelings attached.
"I guess you guys are still trying to figure out your stand" Chloe answered herself when she noticed Rachael's hesitation.
"Sometimes like that" Rachael gave off a nervous smile.
Chloe nodded. "Ok then, I'll make dinner. I couldn't find Mrs. Davies" she said, walking towards the kitchen
"Mind you, the kitchen is a mess" the encounter with Xavier in there made her smile slightly as she walked into her room.
