Chapter 32 Just one man
"Boss" Xavier heard as soon as he stepped outside. It was Marvin, running towards him from afar.
"What is it, Marvin?"
"Polo was shot just outside the premises," he said as soon as he got to where Xavier was, basically breathless.
"Who shot him?"
"We don't....."
Out of annoyance, Xavier grabbed him by the collar roughly. "You don't fucking know?" He screamed into his face.
"Sir" Marvin breathed shakily.
"Don't you sir me! Do your fucking job properly. If I hadn't come here Magnus would have outsmarted all of you. Just one man, one fucking man" Xavier roared in terror.
"Ma... Magnus is... Is" he stammered. "He is not in San Diego at the moment"
Xavier punched him hard in the, causing him to crouch in pain. "Magnus is right here. If you were more competent you should have known" Xavier bellowed, angrily whilst Marvin shook still fighting the pain.
"Send for Lucas. Tell him to meet me as soon as possible"
With that being said, Marvin rushed out
"Magnus was here?" A female voice was heard which made Xavier clench his fist.
"Rachael" he called out softly, turning to look at her.
"The gunshot was from him, right? Why didn't you tell me" she stopped to catch her breath. Immerse fear was visible in her eyes. "This is all your fault" she let out shakily and ran inside.
Xavier exhaled deeply as his anger doubled. "What the fuck are you looking at?" he barked at the two guards who had their eyes on him and they quickly peeled their eyes off.
He pulled out his phone to call Magnus. He let it ring and the moment it was answered, he spoke coldly. "Why don't you come and face me like a man" he ended the call immediately without bothering for a response.
After steadying himself, he walked back into the house. Rachael was right, he fucked up. If he didn't tell her to write an article about Magnus all for his selfish reasons, this wouldn't have happened. Magnus won't be out chasing Rachael, but him.
He knocked softly on her door, but instead of getting a response, her sniffs were heard. "Rachael opens the door" he stated firmly, but nothing happened.
"Why don't you break the damn door if you fucking want me out so bad" she cried out.
"Rachael I was doing it for you. I didn't want you to worry about him" he tried to explain.
"And who put me into this mess in the first place? You fuckin told me to write about Magnus knowing how dangerous he was" the number of tears she shed made it harder for her to breathe.
"You shouldn't have gotten into any business with him in the first place" Xavier voiced out, already getting pissed.
"Fuck you!" She yelled as loud as she could to make sure he heard it.
Silence followed. Xavier's stood outside the door frustrated while she cried behind it. "Rachael" he called out softly. "I'm ...... " He paused as he exhaled sharply. "I'm sorry" he finally said it. A word he never thought he would have to use ever in his life.
Rachael was stunned, but she didn't say anything. Her cries only stopped.
Xavier continued, "I shouldn't have made you write the article about him. I didn't know he was interested in you. I thought he was going to come after me instead. "I'm... " He was about to compete for the word when the door opened and she rushed to hugged him and began crying on his chest.
He hugged her back, patting her lightly on the hair. "I'll never let anyone hurt you" he spoke casually but meant it.
"What will you do to him," she asked shakily.
"I'm going to kill him," he said, without caring about her opinion concerning that. He had already made up his mind to kill him.
"Why can't we just hand him over to the police for trespassing and harassment"
"The police can hardly do anything effective. In my family, we don't involve the police in things like this"
"But why?" She asked, raising her head from his chest.
Xavier didn't give her a response. "Where's your sister," he asked instead.
"She stepped out this morning" she replied.
"Okay," Xavier nodded. "Would you like something to eat?"
"Yes, but I couldn't find Mrs. Davies"
"Yeah I gave her a day off"
"So who's gonna prepare the dinner"
"Me," he said proudly with a slight smile.
"You are joking right"
"Does it look like in joking? My mum had a restaurant back then so trust me I know a few things about Italian dishes"
"Italian?" She chortled.
"What's so funny" he scowled at her.
Rachael raised both her hands to surrender. "Fine fine fine. You can cook I get it"
"Aren't you going to help me?"
She scoffed "Help you burn the entire house down. Hell no"
"I'm not that bad"
"That means you admit to being reasonably bad at it?"
He folded her arm, leaning at the door. "You must be enjoying this. How long have you wanted to taunt me like this"
"The first day I met you" she flickered her eyelashes as a smile appeared on her face.
"Let's go" he slipped off the door and she followed him
