CHAPTER 67

Maya's pov
I felt cold all over as I stood frozen, I couldn't get myself to react or utter a word after hearing Alpha Rick's demand. Complete fear took over me and I didn't know if I wanted to go back to that pack. I was still struggling to heal from the experiences I had when I stayed there and now alpha Rick wanted me back there, to go through all his torture! I didn't know if I wanted that for myself and at the same time, I was thinking about Killian.
I remembered all I'd been through in alpha Rick's hands when he tortured me and I knew Killian would go through worse, I didn't want that for him. He was one of us and I knew if I were in his shoes, he'd try to save me too. I slowly sat down, still clueless on what to say to everyone as they sat with shock and anger and worry all over their faces.
"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" Asher yelled as he punched the wall. His veins stood out on his neck and I was scared of what he could probably do in that state of anger.
Edna was still crying and staring at her phone while she mumbled about how injured Killian was when she saw him while Shalom held her and tried to calm her down to prevent her from losing it but it wasn't working. This was bad, really bad and we had only five hours to do something about it… my life was on the line, I honestly didn't know what to think or do. I was confused, speechless, clueless and everyone kept on stealing glances at me to hear what I had to say about the situation on ground… if I would accept alpha Rick's ultimatum or let Edna's Killian die. None of them seemed like good choices, it was either I or Killian's life and I didn't want to die… I didn't know what to do.
I groaned and bent forward as I ran my fingers on both my hands through my hair in frustration.
"We have to do something, time's going and Killian's life is on the line. We can't do this to Edna, she would never recover from it" Daniel spoke up and I could understand his point but what about me?
"And let Maya back into that pack? No fucking way Dan" Asher replied him as he paced up and down in fury "well something has to be done!" Daniel yelled out and Asher turned to him immediately, his eyes blazing as he stared at him
"Do not push me Daniel" he warned and Daniel stared at him head on
"We don't have a choice Ash, we have to think of something"
"I'm fucking thinking! I AM THINKING" Asher yelled at him and his voice thundered through the house as his anger was slowly unleashing the alpha side of him. I had never seen him like that and it scared me.
I looked around me and everyone was a mess. Edna was still sobbing hard, Shalom soothed her gently, Daniel looked angry and confused as he grabbed his hair every minute… maybe the pain from his scalp was helping him bear the frustration that was dwelling inside him, Tommy just looked as confused as I was, he was speechless too.
"There's no other option Asher, we have to think of saving Killian, Rick's way" Shalom finally spoke up and our eyes met, she looked sorry… I knew we didn't have a choice, there was nothing we could do any other way, it was only Rick's way.
I suddenly resolved my mind and stood up, "I'll go" I said and everyone's head swung to look at me "what are you saying Maya?" Asher asked me as he slowly turned to face me and I shrugged
"Killian's life is as important as mine, and we can't just leave him there to go through pains and torture. Those people are merciless and talking things out with alpha Rick isn't going to solve anything. We just have to do it his way" I replied and Asher began to shake his head "I can't let you go there, you don't know what he could do to you" he insisted and I moved closer to him then touched his arm
"We don't have a choice, this is the only way, Edna is a mess and I can't bear to see her get worse if Killian gets killed" I told him and he went silent as he pressed his hand against his forehead.
He looked confused, I was sure he didn't know what to do. This was a tight spot for all of us and time was running out, we had to jump into action immediately.
"We have to do this Asher, time's running out" I urged him and he looked at me, "I don't want to lose you Maya" he told me
"You won't lose me Asher, I'm strong. Remember? I know Rick won't kill me and we'll be at an advantage if I'm on the inside" I told him, trying to ease his mind and he slowly nodded as he sat down and I sat beside him.
"We need to think of a way to keep you safe then, we can't blindly let you go into that pack without an eye on you" Asher said and I finally felt relieved that he would let me go.
Killian was going to survive, and he could be with Edna… she'll be happy once more. I forced a smile at Asher. It was the only thing I could do to put Asher's mind at rest.
"Then let's get to work* I said out loud to everyone. Daniel nodded at me and began to clear the table in the dining room to bring up a plan while Edna rushed at me and gave me a tight hug.
"Thank you so much Maya. I don't know what to say but thank you so much" she said with a distorted face; her eyes were swollen and her lips chapped. "I'm your friend Edna, I can't let Killian die when I can help"
"I didn't want to ask you to go but I don't want to lose him, he doesn't deserve this. He's a good person" Edna replied as she began to cry again and went to sit down.
Daniel came back and said we were ready so I, Asher and Tommy all followed him to see whatever he had planned out.

That was the solution and it seemed pretty great. Way to go for Daniel to come up with something in such a short time, it was like he was always prepared for every moment that came towards him.
I liked the idea, so did Asher and also Tommy. I was going to put them on where no one would notice and go into the pack. Hopefully, no one was going to search me and find them on my body.
Daniel told Asher about the plan; I was to go into the blood moon pack and make sure Killian escaped before I alerted them. I could use my camera to survey the area and know how thick the guards and security were before they would come in to keep me safe.
Asher then waited for Daniel to place the camera in the pendant of a necklace and he wore it for me. Then Asher fixed the speakers under my shirt where no one could see them, I was going to record and video them. Tommy checked the connection between the devices and their receiver and it was very strong. The video was clear and the speaker didn't break while transmitting the sound.
I was all set and ready to leave. We had three hours left to go before Alpha Rick would do anything funny to Killian. I knew he was capable of going back on his words, and that was likely what he was going to do this time… Maybe three hours wasn't even going to be enough to get Killian out of that pack alive but I had to try, I had to know I did something to save him or my conscience was going to get the best of me forever; telling me I had a hand in his death.
"This is it Ash, I have to go" I told him but he seemed deep in thought. I knew he was thinking of something to help the situation with so I waited to hear whatever he had to say.
He carried Edna's phone and connected it back to the screen before calling Alpha Rick. It rang twice before the call was picked and Rick sneered at the other line
"Seems like you all don't really care about your spy" be said and laughed
"I told you they wouldn't come for you" he added referring to Killian and I gritted my teeth in anger as I remembered him saying those same words to me when I was kidnapped.
"We need to know Killian is safe so you show him to us now before we let Maya come over to you" Asher told him and he shrugged before turning the camera to Killian. To say he was injured would be an understatement. He wasn't recognizable anymore, he had cuts all over his face, a broken nose, torn lips, swollen eyes and a huge bump on the right side of his face with dried blood all over him. He looked at the camera and tried to smile when he saw us but he couldn't, his face was too damaged to even move. I heard Edna's sobbing increase where she stood beside me.
"No one should come please, Maya please don't do this. Don't endanger yourselves" Killian mumbled inaudibly and my heart twisted in pain for him "that's bullshit Killian, I'm on my way now and I'm going to save you okay" I assured him and Edna rushed to the screen so he could see her
"Killian can you hear me? Maya is coming and you're going to be let go, you'll be fine okay, just wait a little bit more… I love you Killian" she said and Killian struggled to nod since he couldn't smile. "I love you too Edna" he replied and it all happened like flash, in seconds, one moment, they were declaring their love for each other and the next, Melissa had a dagger in Killian's heart.
"If I can't have him, then you can't" she said with tears streaming down her face "I'm so sorry" she added and ran off. We all just stared at Killian where he still knelt, the dagger sticking out of his chest as he kept on coughing out blood in pure pain. His eyes were red and he felt to the floor, still struggling to breathe but no one did anything to help him. I couldn't watch it anymore but I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Edna was screaming his name as she begged him not to leave her alone, Asher just stood there with wide eyes… frozen in a place, Daniel the same, frozen and speechless and Tommy was on the floor on his knees, his face palmed.
I looked back at the screen and it was Killian's lifeless eyes that were staring back at us before the screen went blank with alpha Rick's laughter echoeing in the background. Edna kept screaming Killian's name until she began to lose balance and fell to the floor unconscious. It still felt like it all wasn't real around me, like I wasn't really experiencing all of these, Killian couldn't be dead, he couldn't… my heart got heavy and began to beat really fast as I lost my bearings too and fell on my knees trying to catch my breath. I was having a panic attack. Asher left Edna where everyone gathered her to revive her and came to me but his voice was only an echoe as he begged me to stay with him
"I could have saved him" was all I said before I passed out too… Killian was dead, gone forever.
