Chapter 11 I Can Handle It

Upon hearing Yvonne's voice, Elijah frowned immediately. "Who let you in?"

Yvonne wasn't a stranger to Elijah's office, so she confidently took a seat across from him and placed the printed design drawings on the table.

"Mr. Harper wouldn't answer my calls or reply on WhatsApp, so I had to come here in person."

Without looking up, Elijah picked up the drawings and examined them, using a pen to mark a few points. "Simplify the design in these areas, and limit the color scheme to three shades."

Yvonne leaned in immediately. "The interior space is quite large. If the design and color scheme are too monotonous, won't it appear empty?"

"I like it that way," Elijah responded calmly.

"Alright. I'll make the changes then," Yvonne said. Even though she had a hundred objections in her mind, she couldn't afford to refuse. She didn't want to be kicked out of Team C by Susan. Elijah was her lifeline.

Elijah's gaze landed on the last page of the drawings, and his voice softened. "Did you draw all these drawings by yourself?"

"Do you think Grace would help me?" Yvonne replied, regretting her words immediately.

Elijah's attention was still focused on the drawings as he said, "Not bad."

Though it was clearly a compliment, Yvonne felt like it was emotionless repetition.

"After I make the changes to the drawings, I will send you the project quotation as well. If Mr. Harper has no objections, can we sign the contract before the end of the day?" Yvonne put on a professional smile.

"This renovation project is no small sum. I have to compare prices from multiple suppliers." Elijah put down the drawings, his lips curling with a hint of mockery.

She had worked tirelessly last night, and now Elijah wanted to compare prices!

"If there's anything else you're not satisfied with, please let me know," Yvonne continued patiently, acting like a sycophant. "I promise to give you the lowest price and the best quality service..."

"What kind of service? Will you come to my doorstep?" Elijah's voice turned playful, with a touch of teasing.

She was talking about interior decoration, but Elijah clearly had a different idea.

"Just one phone call from Mr. Harper," Yvonne responded, keeping it ambiguous.

Elijah glanced at Yvonne, who was smiling back at him warmly.

Elijah's throat inexplicably felt dry, and he subconsciously loosened his tie.

A jarring sound of the landline suddenly rang out.

Yvonne was closer, so she heard a respectful male voice on the other end. "Mr. Harper, Miss Grace has been waiting in the reception room for two hours..."

Before she could hear the rest, Elijah picked up the landline and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window. "I don't want to see her, send her away."

Yvonne couldn't help but feel excited.

In everyone else's eyes, Grace was like a delicate flower, gentle and refined.

But yesterday, Yvonne handed over the dirty words Grace said about her to Elijah.

Elijah experienced Grace's true character, which must have caused some resentment now, right?

Elijah turned around and set down the landline. His phone rang again, and after a few seconds, he pressed his forehead with his fingers. "Finding a French interpreter within an hour should be possible, but Spanish is a bit difficult..."

Hearing this, Yvonne became even more convinced that the universe was working in her favor!

After finishing the call, Elijah furrowed his brows.

Yvonne stared at Elijah with a smirk and said, "Isn't it just simultaneous interpretation in Spanish? If you trust me..."

"The Harper Group's new energy product launch will involve a lot of professional terminology. Are you sure you can handle it?" Elijah hurriedly interrupted her, his eyes filled with doubt.

In his eyes, the woman in front of him was just a vase.

"What's so difficult about this? I self-studied Spanish in university, so I'll have no problem with interpretation." Yvonne maintained a firm stance.

"If there are any mistakes, you'll be held responsible. Of course, if everything goes smoothly, I'll pay you double the market price." Elijah didn't believe Yvonne at all, but time was running out and he couldn't find anyone else.

Yvonne made an "OK" gesture with her hand. "Since time is tight, please give me the materials for the event so that I can prepare."

"Then I'll trouble you to come with me to GS Plaza." Elijah opened his phone and sent Yvonne several relevant files.

Yvonne read the files while following Elijah into the elevator.

Yvonne became so proficient in Spanish back then purely because of her love for a man who was a Spanish professor at Seattle University...

Elijah's phone rang twice in a row, and he calmly said, "I'm on my way."

The elevator doors opened, and Grace was standing in the corridor!

"Elijah." Grace looked exhausted. While greeting Elijah, she couldn't help but glare at Yvonne.

Elijah softly replied, "Hmm," and Yvonne deliberately leaned her body toward Elijah.

With Elijah present, Grace didn't dare to show any resentment toward Yvonne. She could only look at Elijah with a pitiful expression. "Elijah, let's talk. I've been waiting for you for over two hours."

"I'm pressed for time." Elijah glanced at his watch and strode out of the law firm. Yvonne followed closely behind.

Elijah's driver had already opened the car door. Elijah got in the front seat, and Yvonne sat in the back. As the car started, she couldn't help but give Grace a smug look.

Grace's face turned pale, and she stared hatefully at Yvonne.

If looks could kill, Grace would have torn Yvonne apart a hundred times over.

Yvonne carefully read through all the documents, which involved professional terminology related to new energy.

The Harper Group has been dedicated to the development of new energy in recent years, and this time, the project has Spanish participation.

The Spanish interpreter scheduled for the new product launch was originally a young man, but he suddenly had appendicitis and was admitted to the hospital an hour ago.

The car slowly drove into the open-air parking lot of Winslow GS Plaza.

When Yvonne was about to get off the car, Elijah, who had been silent all along, suddenly asked, "Are you okay?"

"Don't worry, I can handle it." Yvonne smiled confidently and raised her hand to close the car door.

Elijah frowned as he looked at Yvonne wearing the outdated Brooks Group work dress. "There's a women's clothing counter on the third floor of GS Plaza. Go buy a decent outfit. Remember to choose something simple and elegant. No cleavage, and the skirt must be knee-length or longer."

Yvonne, with a seductive smile on her red lips, said, "The clothes at the counter are too expensive, I can't afford them."

Upon hearing this, Elijah opened his phone and sent her a transfer on WhatsApp.

Yvonne received twenty thousand dollars instantly.

"Mr. Harper is indeed generous. I'll be back in no time." Yvonne ran into the elevator in her three-inch heels.

Elijah leaned against the car, staring absentmindedly at Yvonne's gradually disappearing figure.

Her work dress was a bit loose, covering all her curves, but he knew how enticing she was underneath.

He prided himself on being stable, especially when it came to matters between men and women. He never dared to break the longstanding principle of maintaining a pure mind, but Yvonne's charm and allure were irresistible to any man.

Whenever she got close, his heartbeat would go haywire, but he remained clear-headed. He wanted a virtuous wife who could be nurturing mother. Yvonne, being a seductive beauty, wasn't worth his time.

He attributed their first time together to primal desires wreaking havoc.

But last night, he did it again, more than once.

If he had even the slightest bit of self-control, he wouldn't have slept with Yvonne again.

"Mr. Harper, can Miss Brooks handle this?" the driver's skeptical voice came, "What if something goes wrong with such an important product launch?"

Elijah collected his scattered thoughts and fell silent.

Soon, Yvonne came back with two shopping bags.

She was wearing a well-textured three-quarter sleeve white shirt on top, with a slightly open collar, paired with a black knee-length skirt. She even had a pair of delicate black-rimmed glasses on her nose.

Elegant, stylish, and refined, it was exactly the style that Elijah liked.

"What do you think, Mr. Harper?"

Yvonne spun around in front of Elijah, her hand smoothing her shoulder-length curled hair.

"Barely passable." Elijah's words contradicted his true feelings. He couldn't help but look at her a little longer.

Yvonne and Elijah arrived at the top floor where the product launch was taking place.

With the Harper Group's position in the Winslow business district, all the influential media in Winslow had arrived.

The current head of the Harper Group is Elijah's father, Charles. Over the years, Charles has been successful in the business world, but he is obsessed with women. It is known that he keeps a mistress and is often rumored to have affairs with young models and stars.

There are speculations that Charles and Elijah have a strained relationship, as Elijah prefers to work independently rather than join the Harper Group. However, today Elijah made it clear that he is helping Charles.

Yvonne quickly dismissed these trivial pieces of information and followed a guide into the interpretation room located behind the venue. Elijah found a seat in the back row. With ten minutes remaining until the press conference began, a secretary-like man handed Yvonne a stack of documents.

"Miss Brooks, these are the main agenda and some of the media's focal points for today's meeting. Please go through them carefully and make sure not to make any mistakes."

Yvonne immediately switched into work mode, flipping through the documents and putting on her headphones. Someone on the stage gave a brief opening speech, and then one of the vice presidents of the Harper Group started introducing the new products being showcased.

Soon, Yvonne's pleasant and fluent Spanish voice resonated throughout the venue. Elijah glanced toward the interpretation room and was slightly taken aback. He saw Yvonne's focused expression, her red lips slightly parted, as she skillfully gestured with her hand-held pen on the computer screen, occasionally adjusting her glasses.

Elijah began to question, "Is this still the seductive and resourceful woman I know?"

The press conference lasted for three hours. Yvonne didn't dare to use the restroom and didn't drink any water during that time. Many journalists gave her a thumbs up as they left the venue. Yvonne breathed a sigh of relief and packed up her things. She searched the venue but couldn't find Elijah.

As long as Elijah approved her design drawings and handed her the project of renovating the old mansion, she didn't mind doing this interpretation job without getting paid.

Yvonne dialed Elijah's phone, but he neither hung up nor answered. The venue was almost empty, and with tired legs, Yvonne slowly got up and left.

While waiting for the elevator, Yvonne faintly heard Elijah's voice coming from the stairwell. She approached and pressed her ear against the door.

"...You're the one in charge of your company, don't expect me to take care of it. My new energy company is under the Harper Group, and whenever there's an issue, it's always me dealing with it. Every time I go to the hospital, Grandma keeps nagging to see you. Instead of spending time with your mistresses, make time to visit Grandma! You don't need to worry about my engagement..."

Yvonne was listening in confusion when Elijah suddenly twisted open the stairwell door.
