Chapter 24 No Talking About Feelings

Though it was nighttime, there were still people coming and going in the community, and their intimate interaction caught the attention of some onlookers.

Elijah wanted to avoid it, but Yvonne had already left a lip print on his right cheek.

Yvonne chuckled and snapped her fingers, without waiting for Elijah's permission as she stepped into the passenger seat.

Elijah pursed his lips and stood in the gust of wind, using the back of his hand to wipe off the lip print on his cheek.

A bewitching shade of red, slightly sweet, just like the taste of the owner of the lip print.

Desires that he had deliberately suppressed broke through the surface.

After returning to Rhode Hills, before Yvonne could prepare to get out of the car, Elijah carried her into the elevator.

As the door locked, Yvonne hadn't yet adjusted to the darkness inside when Elijah took off her clothes.

What was rare this time was that after they were done, Elijah didn't immediately separate from Yvonne but lay beside her.

"Tomorrow, you're going to attend an interview at FA Center Company?" Elijah's deep voice sounded a bit gentle.

"Aren't you helping me with that?" Yvonne rested her cheek on one hand, staring at the man so close to her.

The man's features were not only handsome but also well-defined. His thin lips curved into a charming arc with even the slightest movement.

Elijah folded his hands together and glanced upwards. "Helping you? That's ridiculous. Do you think a few encounters in bed will develop feelings?"

Once again, Yvonne was slapped in the face, and she swore never to bring up this matter again.

Regarding tomorrow's interview, Yvonne was confident that she would pass it smoothly.

Of course, the outcome had nothing to do with her abilities.

"Whether you listen or not, I have to remind you that if you can get a position at FA Center Company, then don't join Carlos's company." Elijah made an effort to remove any trace of emotion, but Yvonne could sense a different kind of concern.

"Are you afraid Carlos will take advantage of me?" Yvonne asked.

"You're not my woman, so it's none of my concern who takes advantage of you." Elijah once again distanced himself.

Yvonne laughed deeply. "If FA Center Company wants to hire me, they better pay me more than Carlos. After all, one needs clothes and food."

"At the bar, Carlos had his hands on your waist. If you go to his company again, don't blame me for looking down on you." Elijah's face was slightly displeased.

"I'm not your woman, why do you have to think highly of me?" Yvonne retorted.

Unable to win the argument with her, Elijah decided to kick her out. "Go sleep in the guest bedroom!"

"I won't go!" Yvonne deliberately rested one leg on him. "You change your mind faster than flipping a book. No wonder even with money and looks, you can't find a woman. You can't even sweet talk, and your temper is unbearable. It's only because I'm desperate that I still sleep with you!"

"Yvonne, get lost!" Rising in anger, Elijah tried to get up, but Yvonne's leg clung tightly to his waist.

He reached out to remove it, but Yvonne held on firmly and toppled him over.

"Yvonne..." He was about to speak, but Yvonne boldly sealed his lips with a passionate kiss.

Yvonne instantly broke Elijah's reserve, turning him from passive to active.

In the heat of the moment, Yvonne began to play tricks, not letting him touch her, forcing him to bite her earlobe and say a few words of affection before she gave in.

With a dark expression, Elijah got off the bed and went to his study.

Yvonne left the next day without saying goodbye, and he didn't utter a word either.

On the way back to Sunshine Community, Yvonne thought about the scene of teasing Elijah the previous night and smiled several times.

To be honest, hearing the abstinent Elijah saying love words, her heart was beating unusually fast.

Back at her rental, Yvonne took another nap and then dressed up after doing her makeup.

Yvonne was a fashionista. During her college days, she developed a unique set of dressing techniques.

At that time, George only provided her with money for meals, and she had to rely on part-time jobs to earn money for clothes and styling.

Now she had seven or eight high-end clothes gifted by Mrs. Winston, each piece something she had wanted to buy but couldn't afford.

Even if she didn't wear these clothes, just looking at them every day made her happy.

To leave a good impression on the interviewer, Yvonne applied a decent makeup look. When she put on a black shirt and a white suit, her calm and graceful aura immediately emerged.

As Yvonne expected, the interview went unexpectedly smoothly.

Yvonne applied for the position of an interior designer, and within an hour, four interviewers made the decision on the spot.

Soon, Yvonne signed her name on the labor contract.

Her official start date was set for next Monday.

After leaving the FA Center Company building, Yvonne called Carlos and told him that she lacked confidence in being a secretary.

Carlos couldn't understand and repeatedly assured her that being his partner wouldn't be too tiring.

Yvonne talked until her mouth went dry before finally declining Carlos's kind invitation.

FA Center Company was the ceiling of the interior design industry. With the labor contract signed, Yvonne's three-month gloom vanished, and she was determined to work hard.

She sent a thank-you text to Philippe, who replied, "Can I treat you tonight?" She responded with a simple "Sure."

"Let's go to Zero Club if you're willing to spend," Philippe said on WhatsApp.

Yvonne guessed that Philippe would invite Elijah and immediately agreed.

Passing by a branded toy store, Yvonne parked her car and decided to buy a decent toy for Joseph.

The shop assistant recommended two newly released Lego puzzles, and Yvonne was comparing them when she noticed a man.

It was Anthony.

To be precise, it was Anthony and Abigail.

Abigail, as her name implied, was an elegant and gentle woman.

Observing their interaction, they truly seemed like a loving couple.

Abigail was picking out toys and frequently seeking Anthony's opinion. But when Anthony saw Yvonne, his smile immediately became awkward.

Yvonne hurried to leave and randomly pointed out a toy set for the shop assistant to pack.

"This beautiful lady has great taste. I want a Lego set of the same style as well." Somehow, Abigail had stood by Yvonne's side and started observing her.

"It's not that I have good taste; it's just that Miss Watson, or rather, Mrs. White, always shares astonishingly similar preferences to mine." Yvonne never hid her animosity toward Abigail.

It was the same three years ago when she loved Anthony, and it remained the same now that she no longer did.

"The Brooks Group is on the verge of bankruptcy, and yet you can maintain such a high level of consumption. Impressive." Abigail's eyes filled with tenderness, and her well-to-do aura of an upper-class lady was still very much present, even when she was belittling someone.

"Since Mrs. White likes this style, let's buy a few more sets." Yvonne shook her head at the shop assistant. "I suddenly find this thing disgusting. Don't even ask me to pay for it. I don't want it, even if it's given to me for free."

Abigail burst into laughter.

Anthony, who had been silent all along, had a serious face and took out a card from his pocket, throwing it at the shop assistant. "Wrap it up for my wife and find a more beautiful box. It's for gifting."

Yvonne sneered, stood straight with her chin up, and calmly left the shop.

As the crisp sound of high heels faded away, Abigail looked at Anthony with meaningful eyes.

"Let's go." Anthony forced a smile and took the initiative to hold her arm.

Abigail leaned into Anthony's embrace, affectionately acting cute. "Don't go to the company this morning. Accompany me for the prenatal check-up, okay?"

"Sure," Anthony readily agreed.

On the way back to her rented house, Yvonne felt uneasy, but she quickly reconciled with herself.

Three years ago, Anthony and Abigail were already together, and now they were a legally married couple. It was only natural for them to have such intimate interactions.

Hannah called, saying her teaching interview had just ended, and she felt pretty good about it.

"I just passed the interview at FA Center Company, let's celebrate tonight! Zero Club, are you coming?" Yvonne asked eagerly.

"Of course, if you're treating, count me in," Hannah replied. "It's not just me, right?"

"There are a few acquaintances. One of them helped me, that's why I got the opportunity to interview at FA Center Company," Yvonne said with a smile, thinking about Hannah's lack of security in relationships. "Most likely, you'll meet a few handsome guys tonight."

"In that case, I think I'll pass," Hannah immediately declined. Growing up without a father, she lacked a sense of security when it came to marriage and family.

Hannah had a similar height and looked good, which made several guys pursue her during school, but she rejected them all.

"What are you afraid of? Men aren't beasts," Yvonne encouraged her. "Just think of it as making more friends."

"Okay. But I won't stay long." Hannah, who emphasized loyalty, always avoided anything related to romantic relationships.

The two then discussed their future career plans.

Meanwhile, Elijah also received a call from Philippe.

Yvonne wanted to treat them and asked if he would come.

"I might have to work overtime, I'll let you know later," he replied uncomfortably. He felt uneasy because Yvonne invited his best friend but didn't include him.

"For Yvonne to get into FA Center Company, you owe Michael a favor. It's not worth it if you don't go!" Philippe chuckled knowingly. "I've known about the relationship between you two for a long time."

"I'm busy, I'll talk later." Elijah ended the call with a cold face.

Annoyed that Philippe hit the nail on the head, he took out a cigarette and put it between his lips. As he searched for a lighter, his phone rang again.

"Dad," Joseph's timid voice came through.

Elijah pinched his brow and replied, "I'm busy, spit it out."

"Can we invite Aunt Yvonne to our house this weekend? I want to play with her," Joseph asked cautiously.

"You've only met her twice, and you already like her so much?" Elijah couldn't understand how Joseph could let his guard down toward Yvonne in such a short period of time.

Joseph, like him, had an inherent "cold-blooded" factor that made it difficult for him to open up to outsiders. The only explanation must be that Yvonne had privately pleased and captivated Joseph, trying to take advantage of it!

With that thought, Elijah's teeth itched.

Sleeping was one thing, but emotions were off-limits.

He would never let Yvonne, a seductive temptress, take Mrs. Harper's place.

He had to clarify his position as soon as possible and put an end to any improper thoughts that woman might have.

"Aunt Yvonne plays chess with me, plays games with me. Of course, I like playing with her!" Joseph pleaded once again. "Dad, please..."

"She's busy too, so don't get your hopes too high." Elijah put down his phone.

Elijah was lost in deep thought.

A knock on the door was heard - it was Arthur.

"Mr. Harper, George has been waiting for you in the conference room for three hours," Arthur said.

Without hesitation, Elijah replied, "I'm not seeing him."

"But George says he won't leave the law firm until he sees you today." Arthur was in a difficult position.

"Mr. Brooks doesn't need to be present at the company today, I presume the current environment at the Brooks Group is too comfortable," Elijah said softly, "Arthur, don't neglect your duty."

"Please rest assured, I will fulfill my responsibilities," Arthur said, sweat forming on his forehead.

After Arthur left, Elijah closed the office door and dialed Yvonne's phone number.

When Yvonne saw Elijah's incoming call, she thought she was mistaken, so she double-checked and confirmed that it was indeed Elijah calling.

Having successfully joined the FA Center Company, Yvonne was in a good mood. She went to a restaurant and ordered two signature dishes to treat herself.

She greeted Elijah with a smile, "What made you think of me?"

"Hearing Philippe say that you're planning to treat everyone tonight," Elijah's voice sounded slightly frustrated.

"Of course, after passing the interview we should celebrate," Yvonne laughed, "Would you like to come?"
