Chapter 09 Are You Threatening Me?

Elijah intended to push her away, but Yvonne had already hooked her arms around his neck and wrapped her legs around his waist.

"Baby." The soft voice instantly broke Elijah's reserve.

Elijah's breath quickened as he leaned in to Yvonne's ear. "Be good, let's do something different this time."

Yvonne's face suddenly turned red.

Such words spoken by the usually aloof Mr. Harper were extremely enticing.

Yvonne was once again completely conquered. Like a cat that had lost half of its life, she lay in bed making soft sounds.

She didn't sleep well at all that night.

Elijah's hand was still wrapped around her waist. She tried several times to change her sleep position but failed.

When she woke up the next day, it was already half-past eleven in the morning.

Elijah was not in the bedroom. Her body was sore, and she struggled to get out of bed.

She put on Elijah's nightgown and went to the bathroom. She looked in the mirror and found hickeys of various sizes on her neck and body.

Mr. Harper was really fierce last night.

Walking into the living room, Yvonne was drawn to the screen of the television.

The Winslow Financial Channel was broadcasting a high-profile marriage between two prestigious families.

The bride was beautiful and dignified, and the groom was handsome.

The couple exchanged rings, making vows of marital fidelity. They were a perfect match.

Yvonne's dry lips curled up in a mocking smirk.

"Is the wedding getting to you?" Elijah appeared behind her without her noticing.

She raised her eyelids and saw that Elijah was already dressed.

She was feeling a bit hungry, so she looked toward the dining room and kitchen. All the appliances were as cold and pristine as Elijah, without a hint of human warmth.

"I never cook. If you want to eat, go to the food street across the community," Elijah said.

Yvonne helplessly rolled her eyes. "Mr. Harper, you tore my dress last night. How can I go out like this?"

Elijah looked toward the entrance. "There are clothes I ordered from a local store in the box at the entrance. Use them temporarily."

Yvonne paused for a moment and smiled. "You are so considerate."

Elijah didn't say anything more and went into the study.

Yvonne picked up the black box and caught sight of the prominent brand name on it.

Inside was a long red dress, with a conservative design that neither revealed her chest nor her legs, completely contrasting Yvonne's usual style.

Back in her bedroom, Yvonne cursed Elijah's taste while putting on the dress.

Yvonne stared at herself in the mirror. Without any makeup, she was wearing a loose dress that reached her ankles, completely hiding her seductive figure.

If the dress were black, she would resemble a nun in a convent.

A knock on the door and Elijah's voice sounded at the same time. "Freshen up, we're heading to the old estate in ten minutes."

Mr. Harper is reliable after all!

"Right away!" Yvonne, who was previously feeling down, suddenly became excited.

If she made a little effort, she could close the deal and earn a substantial commission.

She took out a small makeup bag from her handbag and quickly applied a sweet-looking makeup. Then, she put the torn red dress inside a bag.

Before leaving the bedroom, she took a few selfies with her phone, capturing both the bedside and the balcony, making sure to include the time and detailed address.

Because the bed was custom-made by a luxury brand, it couldn't be found elsewhere in Winslow.

There was a row of solid wood bookshelves in the balcony, filled with Elijah's law books.

If Grace dared to provoke her again, she would show her these photos!

Even if Grace were dumb, she would easily notice that Yvonne had entered Elijah's bedroom again.

There were several used condoms in the trash can, and Yvonne, driven by her twisted sense of humor, took a photo of them too.

It must be said that Mr. Harper had impressive stamina.

Her waist and lower body were still in turmoil.

Elijah was still wearing a tailored suit and exuded an icy aura that kept people at a distance.

As Yvonne walked out of the bedroom, a fleeting moment of tenderness appeared in Elijah's cold eyes.

Yvonne held her handbag in one hand and lifted the hem of her dress with the other, complaining, "Your sense of fashion is really terrible! This dress hides all the advantages of my body."

"None of the clothes you've worn are as normal as this one," Elijah replied, carefully examining Yvonne from head to toe.

Yvonne was completely helpless.

The two of them arrived at Elijah's private garage through the elevator.

In the precious real estate of Rhode Hills, Elijah had several parking spaces, and each car parked there could support Yvonne for several lifetimes.

Yvonne wanted to drive her own car to the estate and then return to her rented place after finishing her tasks, but Elijah said he wasn't comfortable with that. Yvonne was afraid he might cancel their plans if she drove separately, so she reluctantly got into his car.

In order to facilitate communication, Yvonne wanted to sit in the passenger seat, but Elijah refused and chased her to the back seat.

She asked about the Harper family's old estate's building and yard size, and Elijah answered all her questions one by one. Yvonne took out pen and paper to jot them down.

The two of them talked a lot about this renovation, mostly with Yvonne asking a question and Elijah giving an answer.

Half an hour later, they arrived at the Harper family's old estate.

The Harper Mansion is located in the outskirts of Winslow City, with RD Mount to the north and Flower Lake to the south. It boasts breathtaking scenery throughout the year, making it an ideal place for self-cultivation and relaxation.

Upon entering the gate, one is greeted by the grand Gothic-style architecture, with western Fuji cherry trees lining the stone path on both sides.

Elijah wanted to renovate the entire eastern side, but Yvonne didn't bring any professional measuring tools or a computer, so she could only take some photos from different angles.

Yvonne was exhausted from going up and down stairs, while Elijah stood on the first floor making phone calls the whole time.

Yvonne faintly heard words like "discharge" and "engagement".

It was already 1 PM when they left the Harper family's old mansion. Apart from Elijah and a few servants, Yvonne didn't see any other members of the Harper family.

The car drove into the city.

There was still a need for further communication and collaboration with Elijah, so Yvonne took the initiative to break the silence. "Mr. Harper, it's already past lunchtime. I know a great Japanese restaurant nearby. Shall we go and try it together?"

"I don't have time," Elijah quickly refused.

Yvonne wasn't annoyed either. She picked up her phone and just opened the camera when Grace's call came through.

Yvonne declined the call. Grace was persistent and called several times, but she was still ignored.

Soon, Grace's WhatsApp voice messages began flooding in. Yvonne glanced at Elijah in front of her and smirked before opening them.

"Yvonne! Why are you afraid to answer my calls? Feeling guilty? Elijah is my fiancé, and you won't be able to use dirty tricks to snatch him away!"

"You slut! Yvonne, you dare to mess with Elijah? I won't let you off easy!"

"Don't think that joining the design department means I can't deal with you! Listen to me carefully. In two months, I will kick you out of the Brooks Group!"

Elijah's eyebrows furrowed.

If he hadn't heard it with his own ears, he would have thought Grace was gentle and incapable of taking care of herself.

There were still more than a dozen unread voice messages below. Yvonne turned off her phone and deliberately sighed, "Mr. Harper, this isn't solely my responsibility."

"I'll deal with Grace," Elijah spoke calmly.

Yvonne secretly lifted her phone and took a photo of Elijah's back, sending it to Grace.

Elijah's phone immediately started ringing.

Glancing at it, he silenced the call and threw the phone onto the passenger seat.

Yvonne's phone rang too, and it was Hannah.

Hannah's younger brother, Oliver, who is in his final year of high school, got into a fight with a few thugs outside the school gate last night and ended up in the hospital. This morning, the thugs went to the hospital again and caused a commotion, even smashing up the ward.

Currently, Hannah was arguing with the thugs at the police station. Not only did they refuse to pay for Oliver's medical expenses, but they also wanted to extort money.

Hannah lost her father at a young age, and Mrs. Anderson relied on working odd jobs to support herself and Oliver. Their hardships were self-evident.

Mrs. Anderson underwent a coronary bypass surgery last year, adding to the financial burden of an already struggling family. Now, with Oliver hospitalized, the bitterness can be imagined.

Yvonne and Hannah had a close relationship. She would not allow a few thugs to bully Hannah's family.

She couldn't handle the thugs, but Mr. Harper was different.

Yvonne glanced slyly at Elijah, who was driving. "Mr. Harper, my friend is in some trouble. Can you accompany me to Hug Road Police Station?"

"I can't. I have plans to have afternoon tea with a friend." Elijah's tone lacked empathy.

Yvonne smirked. "I took some pictures in Rhode Hills, and there are several used condoms in the bedroom trash can. If I accidentally put those pictures online, I wonder if your afternoon tea will go smoothly?"

"Yvonne, are you threatening me?" Elijah said sternly.

"Dare I?" Yvonne sneered, "With all your money and power, what do you have to be afraid of?"

Elijah remained silent, his face tense.

A few minutes later, Yvonne suddenly realized that the car was heading toward Hug Road Police Station.

Yvonne breathed a sigh of relief and didn't care whether Elijah was listening or not. She repeated Hannah's words.

When they arrived at the police station, Yvonne jumped out of the car before it had even stopped.

Her dress was too long, so when Yvonne stepped down, her foot caught on the hem, nearly causing her to fall.

Elijah saw this scene and wanted to laugh but restrained himself.

In the mediation room, Hannah was arguing fiercely with the thugs.

The two police officers couldn't mediate and left in annoyance.

The thugs said it was none of Hannah's business that Oliver was beaten; he brought it upon himself. One of their brothers was also injured, and now he was unable to care for himself. They wanted to sue Oliver and seek compensation for medical expenses and emotional damages.

The thug with green hair yelled the loudest. Yvonne noticed that his eyebrows and eyes resembled Elijah's to some extent.

Hannah was overwhelmed by the crowd, and tears were about to fall.

"You've gone too far!" Yvonne shouted.

The thug with green hair slammed the table and walked menacingly toward Yvonne!

Yvonne took two steps back, but Elijah rolled up his sleeves and stepped in front of her.

Yvonne was slightly excited, looking at Elijah ahead with admiration in her eyes.

Elijah's eyes narrowed slightly, a touch of coldness in his gaze.

"I... I..." The confident demeanor of the thug with green hair immediately diminished, and he started stuttering.

"Yvonne, leave," Elijah said sternly, with an unquestionable dominance.

Yvonne gestured to Hannah and then quickly exited the room.

Hannah quickly gathered her thoughts and walked out of the mediation room with Yvonne. Soon after, a slender hand closed the door of the mediation room. The hand had distinct knuckles and had rested on her waist last night...

"Yvonne, I feel like I've seen that man somewhere before, like there was an interview with him on TV." Hannah couldn't remember who the man supporting her was.

Yvonne quickly dismissed the fleeting thought in her mind. "He's Elijah, a lawyer."

Before Hannah could react, a sound of slapping filled the mediation room!
