Chapter 30 Is It Fun to Chat Like This?
The car sped through empty streets.
Yvonne felt dizzy and leaned lazily in the back seat. "Where are we going?"
Elijah's gaze was deep and silent.
"Are you trying to seduce me again?" Yvonne's voice was soft and gentle as she laughed, hooking her arm around his neck.
A pair of strong hands landed on Yvonne's waist, slightly pulling her closer. She fell into a solid chest.
Under the influence of alcohol, Yvonne began to tear at Elijah's shirt.
"Be patient. We'll arrive in Rhode Hills soon." Elijah's warm breath lingered by Yvonne's ear.
"Elijah, are you thinking about my body again?" Yvonne playfully patted Elijah's face. "It's just this face of yours that makes me want to look at it a bit more."
Elijah stared at her intently, his desire growing stronger.
When they got out of the car, Yvonne staggered, so Elijah simply carried her.
The door unlocked, and both of them were eager.
Throughout the process, Yvonne remained in a semi-intoxicated state.
With seductive eyes, she kept asking Elijah, "Do you like me?"
Each time, it only led to Elijah indulging himself further.
At three in the morning, Yvonne woke up feeling thirsty.
She was now awake but had a slight headache. In the darkness, she reached out and touched Elijah.
"What's wrong?" Elijah said, turning on the bedside lamp.
"I want some water." Yvonne got up, but she lost her balance and fell onto Elijah.
At this moment, she was completely naked!
She let out a cry and quickly pulled the covers back.
Elijah chuckled and got out of bed. "Wait for me."
Soon, a large glass of lukewarm water was handed to Yvonne.
After drinking it, Yvonne's stomach felt better.
Elijah went to the kitchen and brought back a water flask. "Do you want more?"
She shook her head, adjusted her position, and asked worriedly, "Did you take any precautions last night?"
"It was too sudden, and I didn't have time." Elijah felt very guilty.
After all, he had promised Yvonne that he would take precautions in the future.
But holding Yvonne in his arms, his rationality and calmness were shattered.
Yvonne leaned over and opened the bedside drawer, taking out two boxes of condoms and throwing them at him. "It's such an easy thing to do! If we end up with a child, I'll hold you responsible! House, car, child support... If anything is lacking, I'll ruin your reputation!"
Elijah's gaze shifted slightly as he chuckled softly. "I won't let such an accident happen to me."
"Speaking of such low probability events, if it were to happen, what about Mr. Harper...?" Yvonne was interrupted as a warm sensation suddenly welled up below her waist!
Her period had arrived!
"Help me find some clothes, I need to go to the bathroom!" Yvonne's face turned crimson as she lowered her head and saw that the bedsheets were already stained red.
Elijah tossed her a pajama, and she hastily put it on before rushing into the bathroom in a disheveled state.
The bloodstains hadn't dried yet. Elijah removed the bedsheet and threw it into the washing machine.
"Elijah, get me a sanitary pad!" Yvonne called out.
"I don't have any," he firmly replied.
How could a big man have sanitary pads!
Yvonne sighed in disappointment.
Elijah found a clean bedsheet and spread it out. Suddenly, he felt a bit dizzy.
Why did he have to sleep with her after it was done?
He remembered it vividly. The second time, Yvonne had lost consciousness due to alcohol. Not only did he help clean her up, but he also held her in his arms, like a lover deeply in love.
At that moment, he was full of joy.
Yvonne climbed onto the bed, holding her lower abdomen. "I drank too much cold beer last night, my stomach hurts a little."
"You can't even keep track of your own cycle." Elijah's seemingly calm eyes flickered with a hint of distress. "I don't have brown sugar here, or a hot water bag, and definitely no painkillers."
"Don't bother me. I just want to lie here quietly for a while." Yvonne curled up and turned on her side.
Elijah couldn't sleep at all. He absentmindedly picked up his phone and opened the search engine, typing "what to do if you ate cold food before your period."
A bunch of tips and remedies appeared.
As he scrolled through them one by one, Yvonne bit her lip and shouted, "The pain is getting worse! Help me go to the pharmacy and buy a box of ibuprofen."
Elijah hesitated for a moment before realizing, "It's already four in the morning, let's hold on a bit longer."
"You don't care about women at all! Only a blind woman would be with you!" Yvonne continued to scold, "Stay single for the rest of your life! Never get a girlfriend, and definitely don't get married!"
Elijah furrowed his brow and got out of bed.
Soon, Yvonne heard the sound of the door lock, signaling that Elijah had left.
The pain in her lower abdomen intensified, and cold sweat formed on her forehead.
She intended to take back the words she had just cursed Elijah with.
As long as Elijah came back with the medicine, she would definitely marry him and become a gentle and virtuous wife.
Elijah bought various types of painkillers, as well as brown sugar, ginger tea, and several packs of sanitary pads. The most thoughtful addition was a pack of disposable underwear.
"You're still considerate toward women!" Yvonne stood on her tiptoes and kissed Elijah on the face before running into the bathroom.
Elijah sighed.
After catching her breath, she turned and went to the kitchen to boil some water.
After taking her medicine and drinking a cup of steaming ginger tea, Yvonne comfortably lay in bed, scrolling through her phone.
Her screen was filled with news of Edward and Grace getting married tomorrow.
Yvonne casually tapped on a photo of the couple. Edward looked proud, while Grace's eyes were determined, as if she had burned all her bridges.
"Mr. Harper, your fiancé is getting married tomorrow, and the groom isn't you," Yvonne teased Elijah sitting next to her.
"So what? I already pocketed the money," Elijah replied, not at all bothered. He counterattacked with a smile, "What's interesting is that I saw a statement online yesterday that they are severing their father-daughter relationship."
Yvonne's face immediately turned cloudy, and she reached for the cigarettes on the bedside table.
As soon as she pulled out one, Elijah snatched it away and threw it in the trash, saying, "This is the bedroom."
Yvonne complied and took the cigarette to the balcony.
Cigarette after cigarette, her mind grew increasingly agitated.
Why couldn't she truly let go of something she shouldn't care about?
"Oh, there's another piece of news. Mary will be released on bail and stand trial tomorrow." Elijah had been standing behind her for a while, but she hadn't noticed. Her attention was fixed on the window.
"I already guessed it would end up like this." Yvonne flicked the cigarette ash. "If they can stay in for a few days, I'd be quite satisfied. At the very least, they will have a record, and they'll be more wary when they try to scheme against me in the future."
"Now that Grace has Edward backing her, aren't you afraid?" Elijah reached out and took the half-smoked cigarette she held between her fingers, pressing it into the nearby ashtray.
"Having too many bad cards, I stopped caring about winning or losing a long time ago," Yvonne laughed carelessly.
Elijah's eyes held a mysterious meaning as he cupped her face, forcing her to look into his eyes. "Believe me or not, as long as you're with me, no one in Winslow will dare to touch you."
"I believe..." Yvonne's eyes shimmered, her voice trailing off. "What's the plan? Meeting every few days or every day? Will you pay me? By the hour, week, month, or directly a yearly fee?"
Elijah's gaze instantly turned cold as he let go of Yvonne and went to the study.
Yvonne opened the balcony window to its widest, waiting for the smoke to dissipate before tidying up and returning to Sunshine Community.
She spent another day drawing at the company. By the time she finished work, Yvonne's eyes were tired, and she went to the supermarket to buy some blueberries.
Thinking that her refrigerator was almost empty, she also bought milk, eggs, and some frozen food.
While waiting in line to pay, Joseph called her and asked where she was.
She was cautious and asked if something was wrong.
"Auntie, we're cooking a lot of delicious food at home tonight. Can you come and have dinner with us? I haven't seen you in days." Joseph was actually whining to Yvonne.
Anyone with a bit of compassion couldn't refuse this child.
But as soon as she thought of Elijah's nasty attitude that day, Yvonne immediately regained her composure and said, "Sorry, Joseph, I have to work overtime tonight. I'll come see you when I have time in the future."
"Okay. Auntie, take care of yourself."
Joseph over there seemed noisy, and one could hear his disappointment. When Yvonne said goodbye to him, she heard Joseph mutter, "Dad, what do we do if Auntie doesn't come—" It turned out Elijah was right beside Joseph.
These days, she couldn't help but remember the video of the woman jumping off the building while holding a child, which made her have no favorable impression of people with the surname Harper. From now on, she would stay away from every man with the surname Harper.
Yvonne glanced at her shopping basket and realized she had missed a bottle of salad dressing. She hurriedly turned back to the condiment section. And there, she bumped into Elijah and Joseph who were choosing black pepper! The three of them looked at each other.
Elijah snorted disdainfully.
"Auntie! Weren't you working late? Why are you at the supermarket?" Joseph's young voice directly exposed Yvonne's lie.
Yvonne's cheeks turned red, and she quickly used laughter to cover up her embarrassment. "I wanted to surprise you and get you a toy. But it seems the surprise is ruined now."
"But the toys are on the second floor." Joseph looked at Yvonne, puzzled.
Yvonne bent down and ruffled Joseph's head, starting to lie. "I was originally going to the second floor, but your dad messaged me and told me that you were in the condiment section, so I came to find you."
Joseph was half-believing, and Elijah, who had remained silent, joined in. "It was both me and Auntie wanting to surprise you. Auntie was indeed planning to have dinner with you."
"Let's go to the second floor to choose toys!" Yvonne quickly changed the subject and grabbed Joseph's hand, making a beeline for the elevator.
Taking advantage of Joseph's unawareness, Yvonne secretly made a "thank you" gesture to Elijah. But Elijah's handsome face remained tensed, and he didn't respond.
Feeling guilty, Yvonne not only bought Joseph an expensive toy set worth over a thousand dollars but also bought two boxes of imported steaks.
After leaving the supermarket, she had no choice but to follow the two of them to Bird Hills. Dinner was lavish, Yvonne was warm, and Joseph was happy. Elijah paid particular attention to Joseph and noticed that Joseph's childishness would only show when he was together with Yvonne.
Joseph, who never acted spoiled toward him, actually wrapped his little head around Yvonne's neck and nuzzled against her affectionately.
Yvonne drove out of Bird Hills, and Elijah followed, driving alongside her car. "Thank you for keeping Joseph company," Elijah's car window rolled down, and a deep voice came through.
Yvonne glanced at him and retorted ungraciously, "You had so many chances earlier to say whatever you wanted secretly, and now you want to chat while driving? Is that interesting?"
"Park in front," Elijah said, pressing the accelerator forcefully. The car quickly overtook Yvonne's and stopped by the roadside.
Yvonne parked her car and only opened the window slightly. "What do you want to say?"
A strong arm reached out, opened the car door from the inside, and leaned in.
