♥ Chapter 30 ♥

Lorenzo Duarte.

I leave the mansion feeling an excitement that I can hardly contain. I can't wait to finish someone off. It's always so much fun to see the desperation in other people's eyes, especially when they're as guilty as Ronan. I'm an excellent lawyer, of course, but I can't deny that I have a sadistic side. Watching a bully or abuser suffer the consequences of their actions is a pleasure, which I don't mind admitting.

When Kael showed me the evidence the investigator had gathered, I was satisfied. It was more than enough to bury Ronan for good. And the fact that he betrayed and assaulted Yara only makes my job even more rewarding. Now, with the address of his company in hand, I know exactly where to find him. I imagine he's there, thinking his life is still normal, unaware of what's about to happen. I can't wait to humiliate him on his own turf.

Furthermore, I drive through the city, keeping my focus on the road and what lies ahead. When I arrive at Ronan's small business, I grimace in disgust. The place is pathetic, no doubt a reflection of the man who runs it. I park the car and enter the building with firm steps, already seeing the reception desk in front of me.

''Good morning,'' I say with a rehearsed smile to the receptionist. I'd like to speak to Ronan Blake.

The woman looks at me a little suspiciously, adjusting her glasses.

“Do you have an appointment?” she asks, maintaining a professional tone.

I give her a cold smile.

''I'm his wife's lawyer, Miss Yara. I want to speak to him right now.

Surprise spreads across the woman's face.

'' Wife? Mr. Blake has a wife?

I rolled my eyes inwardly, but I kept my smile.

''So your boss didn't mention that he was married?'' I ask, trying to sound casual.

She shakes her head quickly, still stunned.

“No, sir. Nobody knew he was married.

I shrug.

'' Very well. Let him know I'm here. And he'd better answer me, otherwise he'll have to attend a trial.

She gets nervous and, without hesitation, picks up the phone and dials quickly. I hear her low voice, almost whispering, as she speaks to someone on the other end of the line.

''Mr. Blake, there's a lawyer who wants to speak to you. Yes, he said it was important.

She hangs up and looks at me again.

''You can go to the elevator. It's on the third floor.

I give her a satisfied smile and nod.

''Thank you.

I walk towards the elevator, feeling the adrenaline rise. I can't wait to see the look on Ronan's face when he realizes that his life is about to fall apart.

As I enter the elevator, I feel a growing excitement. I love this kind of situation, putting a worm like Ronan in his place. As I go up, I imagine his reaction when he realizes he has no way out. The elevator stops on the third floor, and when the doors open, an elegant woman, probably Ronan's secretary, is waiting.

'' Good morning, you must be the lawyer. I'll take you to Mr. Ronan's office.” She says it with a restrained smile, trying to be professional.

I give her a sarcastic smile.

''I didn't know an employee could call her boss by his name.'' I tease.

She seems flustered by the comment and just shakes her head, not knowing what to say. Laughing lightly, I follow the woman down the corridor to Ronan's office. She knocks on the door, and an authoritative voice from inside orders us to enter. When the door opens, I see Ronan sitting behind his desk with a puzzled expression.

''I'm still wondering why a lawyer would want to see me. '' he comments, trying to sound nonchalant.

I smile, enjoying the growing tension in the room.

''I came here for you to sign the divorce that Miss Yara wants. She's already signed it, now all that's left is for you to make my job easier. '' I say, straight to the point.

I see the expression of anger on Ronan's face, but he tries to disguise it with a false calm.

'' What do you mean divorce? How can Yara do this to me?'' He tries to sound indignant, but his voice falters a little.

I roll my eyes, already tired of the cheap theater.

'' You can stop this pathetic disguise. We know you've been cheating on her for a long time and, even worse, assaulting her. '' I say, my voice now cold and cutting. I take a step forward, shortening the distance between us. ''Either you sign the divorce now, or we'll go to court, where everything you've done to her will be heard by everyone. I have proof of your betrayals and assaults. And, apparently, no one in this company knows you're married. He's quite a husband, isn't he?

I open my briefcase and place the divorce papers in front of him.

'' Sign it. Or would you prefer a trial? Everyone will know that you're an abuser and that you abused your beautiful wife. Is that what you want, Ronan?'' My voice is a challenge.

The anger on Ronan's face grows with every word I say, but all it does is increase my sadistic pleasure in the situation. He looks at me, then at the papers, and I see his hands shaking with anger. Finally, with a sigh of defeat, he picks up the pen and signs the divorce. I can't help the smile that breaks out on my face.

''Excellent choice, Mr. Blake. '' I say as I take the papers back. Then I place the protective order document in front of him. ''Here. Just to be sure, don't go near Miss Yara. Otherwise, prison awaits you.

I see Ronan's face turn even redder with pure fury. Without giving him a chance to say anything else, I take the signed documents and turn to leave the office. Before I close the door, I hear the sound of something breaking inside, probably an object he has thrown against the wall. It just makes me laugh even more.

I leave the office satisfied, feeling the sweet victory coursing through my veins. I love the smell of other people's desperation in the morning. Now, with these documents in hand, I head back to the mansion, eager to deliver the good news to Kael and make sure Yara knows she's finally free of that asshole.

As I walk down the corridor, I can still hear the chaos I left behind. My smile doesn't fade for a second. Today was a good day.
