Chapter 21 – Meeting the Hunter’s Squad – part 1

After almost two hours of driving, they arrived at the gates of a fenced property. Davis opened the window on his side, and pressed the intercom on the wall, identifying his passengers. The gates opened, and he drove the car along the paved road, with tall trees at each side, and trimmed green grass.
At the end of the long road, a huge mansion was before them, with an open patio that had a big fountain in the middle, serving as a roundabout for the cars to use, and a parking lot under the shade of a large roof on the left side of the mansion.
A man was waiting in front of the double wooden doors, dressed in a black suit and tie, with a white shirt and black shoes.
Davis stopped the limousine near the man who remained still, with his eyes hidden behind reflective sunglasses and a poker face, without any kind of emotion whatsoever.
Davis opened the doors for Aniya and Lisa and walked around the backside of the limousine to open the door to Dan Rossi.
When Davis was making his way to the driver’s seat, he made a slight bow to Aniya and Lisa, and to his surprise, Lisa grabbed his neck with one hand and pulled him to her face.

She spoke in a whisper, with her voice slightly trembling and feeling a strange energy rushing along her body, "If I don’t come out from there alive, I don’t want to have any regrets."

She kissed him, and Davis stood there, being kissed and with his eyes wide open, in complete surprise. Lisa then hugged him and rushed to meet Aniya, who was already near the unknown man, while Davis entered the limousine after one last glance at them.
For a moment, he seemed to hesitate, but he got his orders as soon as Dan Rossi entered the limousine. Get Aniya, drive them to that mansion and wait for them. Just that.
As Davis was driving to park the car under the roof, he kept glancing at the side mirrors, watching as his passengers entered the mansion and the door closed.

He turned off the engine and thought for a couple of seconds, and made up his mind. He checked the guns that he was always carrying, confirmed he had enough spare cartridges if he had to face an army, and mumbled, "Screw this, I made a promise."

Silently, Davis made his way between the parked cars to the mansion, searching for an open window he could use to enter. He saw one that was half-open, and peeked inside, making sure that room was empty. With a quick jump, he entered, and went in search of Aniya and Lisa, disobeying completely the orders of his boss.
The man in a dark suit served as a guide and took Aniya along the large hallway and straight to a corridor on the right side. They walked past the small office room where Davis was hiding, and he saw them continuing along that corridor, through the small slit between the door and the frame.
At the end of that corridor, there was a door the man opened and entered, signalling them to follow him. Davis exited the office where he was and walked straight to that door, and stopped in front of it and leaned on the door frame, looking at the corridor as if he was just another bodyguard that was at his post. Carefully, he turned the doorknob, and let only a tiny opening, enough for him to hear what was said inside. He heard some unknown voices, and focused on the words, trying to figure out if there was any kind of danger.

Inside, Aniya was frowning at a young man that was standing in the middle of the room, grinning at her. He looked at her from top to bottom and spoke in a tone that made Aniya about to throw up, "So, we meet again, Aniya. It seems luck is on my side, after all. I wasn’t expecting to see you so soon. "

"For you, it’s Miss Aniya, boy. I don’t remember meeting you in my school, most probably because you were in kindergarten by then, so drop the casual way you are addressing me before I have to teach you some manners."

The others near the abusive young man disguised their smiles, and Aniya looked around, checking who was there as well.
Four men in dark suits and with reflective shades near the left wall, and in the middle of the room and facing Aniya, four men, five women, and the woman who was alone, staring at Lisa with a heavy frown.

Aniya faced the man on the right side of the boiling-in-anger young man, and asked, "So, besides the abusive Executive Manager of the Dior branch in this City, who are you all?"

"I am Lucas Dalton. Next to me is Ethan Quaid, and Peter Neylan. These are our designated administratives-"

Before he could introduce the women, the one that was frowning at Lisa almost spit in anger, "Why is this filthy beast here?"

Lisa pretended to be shocked and put her left hand over her chest, "Oh, you can’t be talking about me, right? The cute little me?"

She then looked at Aniya and pointed at the angry woman in front of her, "Aniya, did you hear what that cuntwaflle called me? Are you sure you want to be with these muppets? Just look at them! All stiff as if they have a stick up their ass!"

The men were about to say something when they noticed that Lisa had a wolf’s bane leisurely placed over her ear, and that was proof enough she couldn’t be a Werewolf like they were told. Lucas Dalton cleared his throat to call for attention while using his arm to stop the angry woman from going after Lisa, "Aham, if I may ask, is that a wolf’s bane on your ear? Because we were all informed that… well..."

Lisa leisurely took the blue flower and took a tiny sniff with a smile, "Yea, it’s my favourite flower, Aconitum. You may know it as wolf’s bane, but this pretty flower was always my favourite ever since I was little. I am extremely curious about who was the one to accuse me of being a scary beast because I would like to meet that person and stuff a chair up to their ass."

The angry woman went for the gun that she was carrying in a holster at her waist, as she was speaking, "My aunt works for your family, and she never lied to me! You are a Werewolf! I don’t know how you managed to endure the wolf’s bane, but you won’t leave this room alive!"

Fast as lightning, Lisa took her sword from the sheath she was carrying on her back, and with a swift movement, she cut the bangs of the shouting woman. Bangs that reached her eyebrows, fell over her face, and with a quick wrist movement, the sword made a tight turn and ended against the left side of the woman’s neck, placing a slight pressure over her carotid vein.

Lisa grinned and spoke in a calm voice, "Please, draw your weapon. That’s it, just pull it out a tiny bit and give me an excuse to slice your neck."

Lucian Davis signalled the four bodyguards to approach, and as they went for the guns they had hidden in a holster under their armpits, he said, "You won’t do anything until we figure out what happened. Our sources were never wrong, and I also want to know why, instead of a new Hunter to join our Squad, we got a Werewolf for a bonus!"

The room door was kicked open, and Davis entered, carrying two guns with silencers. Four muffled sounds reached Aniya’s ears as the four bodyguards were hit. Two were hit on the shoulders, two on the legs. He continued walking to the middle of the room, still looking at the injured bodyguards that were on the floor screaming in pain and glancing at the group that was near Aniya.

Dan Rossi stuttered, unable to believe what just happened, "D-Davis, w-what are you doing here?"

While still glancing at the bodyguards, Davis pointed his guns at the group of Hunters, and asked, "Miss Aniya, are you alright? Do you want me to kill them all? Just say the word."

With a grin and while looking at the dumbfounded Lucian Davis, she answered, "Not yet, Davis, not yet. I want to hear them first because this whole situation is ridiculous. How can they possibly think I will be willing to join these bloody idiots if they act before they think?"

Lucian Davis shouted, unable to hold on any longer his rage, "Aniya! What is the-"

In the next second, he was looking at the floor coming towards him, because Aniya had slapped him so hard that he was almost knocked out. A thump was heard when his head met the floor, and he went out. The other Hunters looked at Aniya and saw her kicking Lucian Davis in the groins, over and over, with him already fainted.

She then flicked her hair and made a slight smile at the other men that were gulping, "So, any of you want to address me as if we are good old buddies and get a nice beating, or can we stop fooling around and get down to business? Because I don’t mind breaking a few bones, and I bet Lisa here won’t mind slicing a few heads."

Lucas Dalton spoke, trying to sound as calm as he could be, "Miss Aniya, there is no need for any violence. We are supposed to work together. Hunters are honoured, and we-"

Aniya pointed at the pale woman that still had Lisa’s sword against her neck, "Honourable, you say? That bloody idiot over there went for her gun just because she believed in her lying aunt. And this stupid fool at my feet thought it was a good idea to call his bodyguards. So please, do tell me how all of this is according to the sacred code of the Hunters."

"You have all the reason to be suspicious, but so do we. Up until now, our sources regarding suspicions about someone being a Werewolf were checked and double-checked. I have no idea how our sources could make such a mistake, nor do I know how your friend can smell the wolf’s bane and not be affected by it. The only thing I can think of is that a mistake was made, because for centuries, never a Werewolf was able to endure the smell of wolf’s bane, let alone use it behind her ear, like your friend is doing."

Lisa spoke while slowly rubbing the blade against the neck of the scared woman, making her bleed a few drops, "Maybe because your sources were wrong, and that makes me wonder how many people you and your friends killed because of an error."

Lucas Dalton quickly explained, "That never happened! People who are suspected of being one are imprisoned until the next full moon! When they change, it’s when we are absolutely certain and they are immediately executed!"

Aniya crossed her arms over her chest and asked, "Are you sure that never, not even once, Hunters killed Werewolves in their Human form? Or children, for that matter? Because I took a look at my family history written in a very old book, and I saw some things over there that prove otherwise, including the names of an entire family, including parents and their children."

Lucas Dalton gulped and he slowly nodded, "There were some exceptional cases in our History but that was when an entire community of Werewolves was found. I can’t deny that there were cases of Hunters that went over their sacred duty and killed Werewolves in their Human form, but most of those cases were already found and dealt with."

Aniya used her hand to make a circle in the air as she continued, "And what about all this opulence? Because so far, I have only met Hunters that seemed too rich to even bother about Werewolves."

"Well, I can’t deny that during our centuries of fighting Werewolves we accumulated some wealth, and that made our ancestors very rich and influential. There are still a few families with centuries of History as Hunters, like your family, and ours."

Aniya raised one eyebrow and after two seconds of deep thinking, she remarked, "Am I wrong if I say that some of those Werewolves that Hunters killed were rich and their wealth was apprehended?"
