Chapter 36 – The madness of a father
After a quick lunch, Aniya called a taxi to take her, Lisa, and Davis to the City. Nick stayed in Aniya’s hideout because Aniya still feared the Hunters were searching for him.
When they were crossing the bridge, Aniya turned on her phone and called an Uber for her and Davis, and checked the pickup point.
When she was about to put her phone in her wallet, it vibrated with a couple of missed calls from her father and a message telling her to go home because they needed to talk about Violet’s funeral that was going to happen the next day.
She bit her lip and told Lisa that she would call her later that day so that they could go see Violet’s parents because, for sure, they were doing a memorial in their house.
Lisa slowly nodded, still doubting if she should go or not, but Aniya convinced her by saying that even after what she did in the end, Violet used to be a friend.
After arriving to the pickup point, Lisa grabbed a taxi to go to her house, and Aniya used an Uber together with Davis to go to hers.
When they arrived at Aniya’s mansion, Davis went to the garage to get the limousine for Aniya, and she went inside her mansion.
Strangely, the door was unlocked, and there were no servants or maids around. She entered, and as soon as she closed the door, she heard voices coming from her father’s office that, surprisingly, had the door open.
Aniya walked along the corridor, and then she heard her mother sobbing. She ran and barged into the office only to find her mother laying on the floor, bruised all over, clothes ripped apart, and her father, with his face all red, pointing a gun at Aniya’s head.
Dan Rossi stared blankly at Aniya and spoke in a dragged voice, “If it isn’t my supposed daughter… So glad you graciously joined us on this fine afternoon!”
“Father! What is the meaning of this? What did you do to mother?”
“To this whore? Nothing, just a well-deserved punishment. By the way, sit on that chair and don’t make any sudden movements, or I am fucking going to make a hole in your head!”
Aniya went to the chair in front of the desk, with her father pointing his gun at her. He then took a step back and kneeled on the floor. He grabbed Violet’s hair and pulled her up so that Aniya could look at her, and he threatened, “I saw you shining inside that cabin this morning, Aniya, and I also saw you moving at an inhuman speed. You and Lisa are both Werewolves, and I want to know how you and this whore here hid that from me, and why you never changed! If I don’t like your answer, I am going to shoot her in the head, and then it will be your turn!”
“Father, I…”
“Don’t call me father, you filthy monster! I am not your father, for sure! If I was, you would never be a Werewolf! Violet comes from a long line of Hunters, and there was never a case of Werewolves in her family! Neither did anyone in my family! For you to be a Werewolf, it means this whore slept with a monster and lied to me all these years! I beat her up and questioned her most of the night, and I kept on asking the entire morning! But she denied everything! You either tell me, or I fucking swear I am going to kill both of you!”
Aniya turned pale. If what her father was saying was true, it meant that while she was with Nick in her hideout, her mother was being tortured by her father. She slowly shook her head and begged in a trembling voice, “Father… don’t do this, please… It doesn’t matter if I am a Werewolf or not, you are still my father! Did you forget all the time we spent together? All the times you played with me, dressed me, trained with me? Why are you doing this? Because of a bunch of maniacs that like to kill people? Because of a so-called sacred code that those maniacs use to hide their true intentions? You are better than this, father! Don’t do this, please!”
“So, you confess… Finally, some answers... Keep going. I want to know why you never changed.”
Seeing his daughter going silent, Dan Rossi pointed his gun at her mother. “Last chance, Aniya… You either spit out everything you know, or your whore of a mother will get a new hole in her head, and you will be next!”
Aniya clenched her fists. She kept on looking at the crazy look her father had, and the blood on her mother’s face, together with scratches, a broken nose, a black eye, and a split lip. Her blouse was completely torn apart, and her breasts were out in the open, bruised and scratched as well.
Aniya felt something snapping inside, and she asked in an icy tone. “Are you sure you want to know? Are you sure you want to kill my mother? Because I found out an interesting thing that most Hunters don’t know. Silver only slows down Werewolves. It doesn’t kill them unless a vital organ is hit, and the Werewolf has no time to heal. But a Werewolf is also light-speed fast, and he can easily avoid a shot if he is not a mindless beast. I also learned how to change when I want to, and since my first change a few days ago, I have always been in control of my beast body. Do you want to see it? Because unless you let go of my mother, I will change and I will take your beating heart from inside your chest and make you swallow it.”
Dan Rossi grinned. “Now we are talking… Unfortunately, there is no way you would be in control. The moment you change, you will attack us both, and while you are occupied with your mother, I will shoot you straight in the head.”
“For that, you had to be a real man, but you are just a damaged man with no balls because my real father, a powerful Werewolf, took care of that years ago. You are just a poor guy that can barely lift it, let alone have an amazing daughter like me!”
Hearing Aniya insult him like that with a grin made Dan Rossi completely lose it. He pointed the gun at her, and the moment he was about to shoot, she jumped back and rolled over the table. At the same time, her feet kicked the chair forward, disrupting his aim.
Dan shot a series of bullets, emptying the cartridge in a futile attempt to hit Aniya, who was rolling at such a fast speed over the desk that his eyes could barely follow her.
While he quickly went for his pocket to recharge, the sound of ripping flesh and bones breaking reached his ears. In a panic, he saw a massive white Werewolf’s body getting up, appearing in all its glory from behind the desk. Her light blinded him, and when he closed his eyes because of it, Aniya moved.
Dan blinked, trying to get used to the light, and sensed a breath on his face. He half-opened his eyes, only to let go a scream when he saw Aniya’s big mouth and sharp teeth growling at him.
With trembling hands, he tried to put the bullets in the gun, only to see Aniya grab it and twist the barrel in a V shape with just one hand.
He then felt a strong pain in his chest, and saw in horror a huge hole in it, with Aniya grabbing his still-beating heart. With a quick movement, she forced his heart into his mouth and made a low growl as the light in his eyes disappeared.
As Dan’s lifeless body fell to the ground, Aniya looked down at her mother, who was staring at her with one eye half-open and the other too swollen for her to see anything. Violet let out a low scream, unable to even scream properly because of how much she screamed during the torture her husband made her suffer.
Aniya closed her eyes and took a few slow, deep breaths, like Lisa explained during lunch in her hideout.
In horror, Violet saw Aniya’s Werewolf body turning into dust that began falling on the ground near her. In mere seconds, Aniya was looking at her with a worried look while cleaning the last bits of dust from her face and hair.
Aniya leaned on the floor and asked, “Are you okay, mother? Come with me, let me take you to the Hospital.”
“Aniya… You are a Werewolf… A real Werewolf… How...”
“According to that dead prick over there, because of you. And a certain Werewolf you once met named Andreas Hansen. I was also told he was a Norwegian Alpha Werewolf, and very powerful. It seems I have his eyes.”
Violet Rossi slowly nodded. “Yes… you sure have… And the way you look when you are angry… I always thought that you looked so much like him… It was him that attacked me in that van so many years ago. If it wasn’t for Dan, Andreas would have killed me. I couldn’t believe it when he changed back. For so many years, I feared you would become a Werewolf, but you never changed. Why are you a Werewolf now?”
“I think it happened after I met my partner. Our bond might have triggered that. I could also keep control during my first change, and I awakened him. I also woke up three friends. Humans can change into Werewolves and be in control, mother. There is no need to kill them. Hunters either don’t know that, or they know and don’t tell anyone. You saw what that crazy group did. Father… I mean, Dan, he hit you. He did this to you because of his hate and the way they brainwashed him. My friend Violet was a Werewolf, working for the Hunters. She tried to shoot me in my back yesterday because someone in the High Council ordered her to kill me.”
“No… It can’t be… Hunters are honoured, our code is sacred, we…”
Aniya cleaned the dry blood from her mother’s face with one hand while trying to check her wounds and said, “An honourable man would never do this to a woman. There is no honour in the Hunters, only hate and a liking for hurting and killing people. Let’s go to a Hospital. You need to be checked.”
Violet Rossi glanced at her dead husband, who was on the floor near her, and asked, still indecisive, “And… Dan… What do we do with him… And you? What do we do with you?”
“I will make a call to the Hunters and say a Werewolf was here and killed him and you also got attacked. You only have to decide if you are going to be on my side or their side.”
“I… I don’t know, Aniya. I honestly don’t know. I was taught that Werewolves were evil and didn’t deserve to live!”
“So you would rather see me dead than help me, is that it? After I saved you from that crazy dumbass? Mother, are you serious? Geez! I should have let him shoot you!”
Violet Rossi shook her head, only to make a grimace of pain. “No! Of course not! Werewolf or not, you are still my sweet daughter! If I have to decide between you and anyone else, I will always choose you! It’s just… What do you intend to do now? I mean, you can change whenever you want, so are you going after the Hunters next, together with your friends?”
“I don’t want to do that, mother, but if they mess with me or if I find out they are going to kill an innocent person just because he is a Werewolf, I will make them regret it.”
Aniya helped Violet stand up and sat her in a chair. Aniya then went behind the desk to collect her ripped clothes and took her phone from inside the purse.
A quick call to Davis to ask for help, telling him that a Werewolf killed her father and attacked her mother, knowing that the Hunters would listen and would send someone to check on them. That was her way of making sure her cover-up story would stick.
Davis appeared in an instant and led Violet Rossi to the limousine, while Aniya grabbed her clothes and bits of flesh and threw them all inside the hidden room beneath the fireplace. She then rushed to her room to get new clothes, and joined Davis in the limousine, holding her mother’s head on their way to the Hospital.
