Chapter 24.1 – Meeting the Hunters High Council – part 2

In a split second, Davis slid over the table to get near the Council members. Lisa took out her shirt, made a ball of it, grabbed the small gun she had under her panties, and fired with the shirt being used as a silencer wrapped over the gun. The two security guards were hit in their right knees, and when they fell on the floor, Davis was already grabbing the neck of the older Council member in a lion choke.
Aniya took her blouse as well, made a ball with it and wrapped her gun while pointing it at the door, waiting for it to open, wearing only her under-bra. The moment the two security guards outside came warned by the noise, they faced Aniya smiling at them with her gun pointed at their heads. She signalled with her eyes to the holsters they were carrying around their torsos, and slowly, they took out the guns and delivered them to Dan Rossi, who escorted them to the other security men that were on the floor screaming, and told them to shut up or they would be killed.

Aniya then pointed the gun at Anthony Nolan, while Lisa pointed at Jake Kinnerk. The older man spoke, almost exploding in anger, “You are not getting away with this! You will all be dead before even leaving this building!”

Aniya made a nod, and Davis increased the pressure on the man’s neck, making him gasp for air. She then leaned forward and explained, “This is what is going to happen. We will peacefully leave this building, and if you want to ask something after interrogating the other guys and girls, contact my assistant in my company and schedule a meeting, and I will come when I am available. You will also wait for my friend to contact me with further information before you decide if you want to warn the Hunters in the entire World that there is a man able to turn into a Werewolf without a full moon. I am very aware of all the problems that information can cause, but it will be far worse if there are more Werewolves able to do that, and a lot of Hunters die because they weren’t informed.”

When he saw Blake Garvin tapping his arm, Davis released a bit of the grip. After panting to recover his breath, he asked, “What makes you believe we will do as you say? You can’t order us like that. We are the High Council, and-“

Aniya interrupted him by shaking one finger, “No, no, don’t get angry. I am sure you will agree with my terms because you will swear by the code that you will do as I say. I know how much Hunters value the code, and I bet High Council members, such as you three, value it even more. If you don’t swear by the code, you will all die in the next five seconds. I was never a patient woman, and I really hate wasting my time. So, five... four…”

Davis released the old man and took a few steps to the side, getting away from Aniya’s range of fire. The three men glanced at each other, and when she reached ‘one’ on her countdown and aimed the gun at Blake Garvin’s forehead, they all said at the same time that they would swear by the code that she and her friends would be allowed to leave and that they also agreed with her terms.

Aniya smiled and unwrapped her blouse from the gun as she was speaking, “See, that wasn’t so hard, was it? Davis, can you check if they are carrying? I don’t want to get shot in the back the moment we leave. Check under the table and their chairs, too, because they seem to be sneaky and are probably hiding more guns besides the ones with them. Father, take the guns of those guys near you and check them for hidden weapons if you please. By the way, is there a penalty for what they just tried to do, arrest me to silence me?”

Dan Rossi spoke while checking the security men, “I can send a message to the World High Council about their actions, but it’s better if we wait for your friend’s contact. If he survives to be able to contact you, that is.”

Aniya bit her lip and tried to sound confident. “Oh, he will be alright, he is quite resourceful. I am more worried about this High Council of yours. See why I don’t trust people? First, two Hunters try to get me killed, and on the same day, three Council members try to arrest me so that I don’t warn other Hunters and probably save their lives. This Hunter Society of yours is funny, father, are you sure they are the good guys? Because they could fool me!”

Dan Rossi went silent, unsure of what to say. He worked for the Hunter Society all his life, like every one of his ancestors, and seeing all those events happening one after the other was making him doubt the honorability of what the Hunter Society was doing lately.
Davis took the guns that were under the table on a small shelf, still inside their holsters, waiting to be used. The Council members had no weapons besides those, and Davis walked around the table to meet Aniya on the other side. Dan Rossi also approached, with all the guns he took from the security men, delivering some to Lisa and the rest to Davis.

Aniya leisurely put her blouse on again, and Lisa complained when she looked at the holes in her shirt, “Darn, I ruined it. I can’t wear this!”

Aniya pointed to the security guys that were seated on the floor and said, “Why don’t you ask nicely that small guy over there to give you his shirt? He looks like he is your size.”

Lisa got up and went to talk to the man, wearing her biggest smile. While he was undressing his shirt, glancing from time to time to Lisa’s under-bra to check her breasts, Aniya was looking at the High Council members that were staring at her, and they didn’t seem very happy with all that had happened.

She made a slight smile and spoke, “I hope what happened here doesn’t ruin my chances of applying to the Internal Affairs, because from what I could see today, you need a lot of help in dealing with all the inflated egos in the Hunter Squads. Of course, you can also decide not to accept me as a Hunter at all, but that won’t say much about you three, will it? I was told that the number of Hunters on active duty is decreasing. Perhaps it would be a good idea if you allowed more women to join the Hunter Squads.”

Blake Garvin spoke, anger in his voice, “Until today, never a woman joined a Hunter Squad because it was agreed centuries upon centuries ago that it was too dangerous to let a woman join the front lines.”

Aniya shrugged. “Well, you can see from what Lisa and I did today what you guys have been missing with that idea. While four men, all of them experienced Hunters, were frozen in shock and surprise because they saw, for the first time, four men changing into Werewolves during the day, we didn’t even hesitate. I shot three of them together with Davis straight into their heads, and Lisa beheaded them with her deadly sword. The fourth Werewolf took us a bit by surprise, but we still wound him before he escaped. I thought Mister Ethan and Mister Peter, who were right behind him, could stop him, but they were too surprised to react in time. I bet that if there were two women instead of them, that Werewolf would also be killed.”

“You can’t be certain of that. Women are known for hesitating in the face of danger.”

Aniya grinned at the older man and said, “Only if it was your mother because mine would jump at that Werewolf’s throat and bite him to death if she had to. I have two friends around my age, and I bet that even if they had never seen a Werewolf before today, if they were in that house with me, he wouldn’t be alive by now. You guys really shouldn’t underestimate women. Just look at me and my friend here. We survived a trap, killed three Werewolves in our first mission, came here, stopped your trap, made you swear by the code, and agree with my terms. You really underestimated the cute little me, didn’t you? I didn’t become the CEO of my family’s company because of my good looks, you know? I am very good when it comes to businesses, and this meeting, my friend, was just one day’s work for me. No need to get up, I can see myself out.”

With a flick of her hair, Aniya left the room with Lisa and Davis right on her heels. Dan Rossi looked back with a pained look on his face, and said before closing the door, “This could all be avoided if you weren’t so quick in judging my daughter, and you would be a bunch of fools if she wasn’t allowed to join the Internal Affairs.”

The moment he closed the door, Blake Garvin punched the table and grumbled, “The nerve of that bitch! How dare she-“

Anthony Nolan interrupted him with a slight grin, “I would say she was splendid. She dealt with this situation far better than other Hunters that once stood in that chair. Dan Rossi can be compromised in this situation, but I vote for us to wait for her friend’s contact because I don’t know about you, but I am very curious to find out how someone can control the change like that. Imagine the danger if more Werewolves can do that, or if he teaches others how he does it?”

Blake Garvin opened and closed his mouth, unable to mutter a word, while Jake Kinnerk nodded. “I vote in favour. We shall wait for further developments. In the meantime, we have two Hunters and five administratives to question. You know that Dan Rossi never failed in his duty, but considering that it’s his daughter that is involved, I would rather wait for the questioning before doubting his judgement.”

“I don’t think that’s the best option, but we swore by the code. Very well, I shall silence my doubts for now and do as you both said, but I don’t agree with it. I still think it’s a bad idea to have her join Internal Affairs, considering how much she disrespected us!”

Anthony Nolan faced his older colleague and asked, “You would rather have a Hunter in the Internal Affairs that would blindly follow our guidance without questioning it? We are also prone to errors, you know? Do I need to remind any of you about the matter concerning her friend Lisa McCarty? Our sources told us she was a Werewolf, but it was only me that noticed she had a wolf’s bane behind her ear? Did any of you ever hear about a Werewolf able to endure the smell of a wolf’s bane?”

Blake Garvin leaned on his chair and caressed his beard while narrowing his eyes. “Until today, we also had never heard of a Werewolf able to change at will. We need to double-check our sources regarding that Lisa because she moved way faster than our best Hunters, not to mention her aim with that small gun she was using. I cannot shoot at a man’s knee at the distance she did, and I consider myself a good shooter!”

Jake Kinnerk answered, “Perhaps in your younger years you did far better than she, but remember, we checked Aniya Rossi’s background, and she has the highest score in the shooting range she uses to practice. Even our best shooters don’t get near her points. Perhaps Lisa McCarty is a good shooter as well, but she goes to another shooting range and we never checked her because it was not needed.”

Blake Garvin nodded, still thinking about what happened in that meeting. Everything was supposed to be easy. Hear them, confine them, interrogate the Squad, dispose of them to hide the fact that there were Werewolves able to change at will. Easy peasy. Until Aniya sat in front of him.
He remembered her grinning at him as she pointed her gun at his head, making him clench his teeth. The nerve of that brat, threatening him like that!
