My Hidden Memories
I opened my eyes slowly, trying to detect where I was because my sight was blurry and everywhere was dark. The last thing I remembered was being tortured by Falcon before I became unconscious.
As I tried turning my head to look at the surroundings, I couldn't move my hands or body, which surprised me. I continued forcing myself to get up, and after some time, I heard footsteps approaching.
The person came closer, putting a hand on my chest before saying, "Her heart has stopped beating."
At first, I couldn't believe my ears, but it was quite strange because I couldn't see the person; I could only feel and hear the man's voice.
After the man removed his hand from my chest, I heard another man say, "Cover her up; we mustn't let anyone find out, especially Falcon."
Falcon doesn't know about this? I asked myself. Then who are they? What do they want from me?
I tried talking to them to stop whatever plan they were trying to carry out, but my lips didn't move, nor could I move my body. I just lay on the bed like a dead person, and from the look of things, it was as if my body was already cold.
As I continued forcing myself to speak, which seemed impossible, I felt a cloth and a hand over my body. At first, I thought they were covering my body, but when I heard them zipping up the bed where I lay, that's when it occurred to me that I was dead, and they were trying to bury my lifeless body.
But did Falcon really not kill me? I thought. I just lost consciousness; how can I die like this? Getting afraid of being buried at a very young age and nobody knowing, I used all my strength to get up, but it was useless because, at that time, the men had started moving the bed to God knows where.
I continued trying again and again, for almost five times, but to no avail. At that time, I was already sweating, but the men didn't notice because I had been covered with three cloth bags.
"We are almost at the mortuary," I heard one of the men say, and that frightened me. Using all my energy, I forced myself to sit up, and I sat up immediately, looking at the surroundings. I noticed I was in my room, sitting on my bed, and what I had was just a nightmare.
I breathed in and out heavily, and the weirdest thing was that I couldn't seem to remember the dream I had, and I wondered why.
"Ari, you're awake," I heard a voice say beside me, snapping me out of my thoughts. I looked beside me to see Lina and Blaze staring at me with worry.
"Guys," I moved my mouth slowly, and Lina rushed to me, hugging me tightly.
"Ari, you're awake; I thought you were dead," Lina said, but hearing the word "dead" made my head hurt.
"Ahhh," I cried slowly, making Lina stop the hug, and Blaze looked at me immediately.
"Are you alright?" Lina asked, worry filling her voice.
"How would she be when you almost took all her breath away?" Blaze replied and scoffed silently.
"I wasn't talking to you, was I?" Lina questioned, facing him.
Noticing they wanted to start an argument, I spoke.
"Don't worry; I'm fine," I replied, and Lina shifted her gaze to me.
"Oh, Ari, I missed you; I thought you were dead," Lina said, and the pain came to my head again, but I kept it in, making me wonder why Lina thought I was dead.
"Stop using that word, Lina; it's just like placing a curse on Ari," Blaze warned.
"Understood," Lina replied.
"For how long was I asleep?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.
Lina chuckled.
"Asleep? Or do you mean to say coma?" Lina questioned, and I furrowed my eyebrow.
Coma? I asked inwardly.
"Was I not sleeping?" I asked them.
"No, you weren't; you were in a coma," Blaze replied.
"Really? For how long?" I asked.
"You wouldn't want to know," Blaze replied, and it got me wanting the response more.
"Why not? Was it that long?" I asked.
"We will answer you once you have freshened up; let's go," Lina told me, and I looked at her for some minutes before holding her hand for assistance to stand up.
After I was done with my bath, I wore my clothes and ate my food in my room. After that, I went back to sit on the bed before facing my two friends, who sat in front of me, waiting for my questions.
"For how long was I in a coma?" I asked.
"Three months," Blaze replied, and I opened my mouth in shock.
"What?!" I exclaimed. "But how is that even possible?" I questioned.
"So, does that mean you don't believe us?" Lina asked.
"I don't," I answered.
"How can you expect me to believe you? Because the last thing I remember was when I lost consciousness in Falcon's room, so how can that turn to this?" I asked them, still trying to wrap my head around the situation.
Lina and Blaze looked at each other before shifting their gaze back to me.
"Now I understand what your problem is," Lina said.
"My problem?" I stuttered.
"Yes, your problem," Lina replied.
"You must have lost some of your memory," Blaze said bluntly.
I looked at him with surprise before bursting into laughter.
"You're...you're joking, right?" I asked between laughs.
Lina and Blaze kept staring at me with serious expressions.
Maybe not, I thought inwardly.
"To be sincere, I don't get you guys. What did you mean by that?" I asked.
"We don't also understand, Ari," Blaze said.
I kept mute, unsure of what to say or think.
"Let's start from the beginning," Lina suggested. "You were in Falcon's room, and then...?"
I tried recalling, but my memories were hazy.
"I...I don't know," I admitted.
Lina and Blaze exchanged worried glances.
"We'll help you remember," Lina promised.
But as they began explaining, I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off.
Was I really in a coma for three months?
And what happened during that time?
The more questions I asked, the more confused I became.
It was as if my memories were hidden behind a thick fog, and I couldn't find the path to uncover them.
