Chapter 24

I packed my belongings and went straight to my father's house. My mother asked why I came back suddenly.
"We had a big fight, I've had enough," I replied.
I locked myself in my room and refused to open the door no matter what. He didn't send me a text or call me the entire night. I kept scrolling through my phone and came across Katie's post on her moments.
"Thank you for being there." The picture showed her talking to a doctor. At that moment, I completely broke down.
I must have been hurting too much, that's why I cried. When Miranda called me, I was crying so uncontrollably that she couldn't understand a word. Finally, Miranda came to my house and stayed with me for the night.
"Now, what do you plan to do?" she asked as I remained silent.
"Don't tell me you're just going to let it go. That little bitch, Katie, infuriates me. How dare she hit you," Miranda said, as if she wanted to go to the hospital and beat up Katie.
"It's not because of her that I'm upset," I said while hugging my knees.
"Could it be that you actually have feelings for Kenneth? Although... it wouldn't be surprising since you've liked him that way since childhood," Miranda suggested.
"That's not true," I denied vehemently. But my tears still fell. I cried under the covers for quite some time.
After a while, Miranda suddenly tugged on my blanket and whispered, "Kenneth is downstairs."
"What do you mean downstairs?" I was confused.
"Outside your house!" Miranda said, looking out the window. "I just saw him, I don't know when he arrived."
I remained silent, not understanding what Kenneth meant by coming here.
"Shouldn't you let him come up?" Miranda asked me.
"No. I don't want to see him," I said, still angry and unwilling to listen to anything.
"What if he came to apologize? Kenneth is not one to apologize easily," Miranda suggested.
"It's too late," I walked to the window and closed it, pulling the curtains shut. "I want to divorce him."
She touched my head, advising me not to be impulsive. "You want to divorce him just because you didn't get the money?"
"A man doesn't need to go for a second round, it's not like Kenneth is the only wealthy one in the world."
Miranda was shocked, unable to persuade me anymore, just staying in bed and giving me advice. Later, I fell asleep and in the middle of the night, Miranda was applying medicine for me. I woke up in pain, "Where did you get the medicine?"
"Tha... Kenneth gave it to me." She pointed at the exaggeratedly large bag of medicine on the stool. "He instructed me to make sure to give you medicine."
"Why do you listen to him?"
"I... I am a mediator for the both of you." Miranda stopped talking and silently applied the medicine for me, gritting her teeth.
