Chapter 26

Kenneth and I were getting a divorce, we just hadn't registered it. Both families knew about it. I didn't know he was so busy, so busy that he didn't have time to handle the divorce. I didn't care. Both Miranda and I applied to study in Canada together.
"Why do you need a man? Focus on your career, there will be plenty of men in the future."
I thought Miranda was right. So we spent every day together, reviewing and filling out various forms. I never contacted Kenneth again. But recently, I've been feeling very uncomfortable.
"Why are you vomiting so much, are you-" "Pregnant?" Miranda reminded me.
Suddenly, I realized that it had been two or three months since my last period. I had been so busy with fighting, divorcing, and my irregular menstrual cycle that I had indeed overlooked it. I went to the pharmacy and bought a pregnancy test. The moment the two lines appeared, I was stunned. It's over. After thinking all night, I decided to keep the baby.
"Are you sure? You're going to study there, how will you take care of the child?" Miranda asked.
"I've seen other single mothers do it just fine," I said with a smile, hugging her. "Besides, don't I have you?"
In this new era, what do women need men for? So, while experiencing morning sickness, I applied to schools. On the day I received my acceptance letter, I sold all the bags I had bought.
"You're really not attached to them, limited editions," Miranda said.
"I need tuition, living expenses, and money for formula. Miss, these bags can't be eaten,"
I replied with a calculator in hand, calculating the money I would get from selling the bags, necklaces, and diamond rings. Surprisingly, I had over five million US dollars, which made me feel ecstatic.
"Your diamond ring was worth over four million? Kenneth is really 'wealthy'" Miranda teased.
"It was from an auction, I thought he bought it from a flea market, an antique," I replied.
If I had known it was so expensive, I should have just sucked up to him and asked him to buy me more of those antiques. My parents found out about my divorce and nagged at me for a few days but eventually stopped bothering me.
