Emo Models vs Dogs

Before I could blink for the third time that night, the emo models –I refused to call them vampires –in front of me had disappeared into thin air. A huge gush of wind blew past me, almost knocking me down butt first on the street.

Instinctively, I turned to my back to see what had flown past me. A few meters ahead, I saw the emo models suddenly appeared just like that and clashed themselves with the wolves. Sharp teeth gnawed against white pale skins. Blood burst out and littered the street with red liquid.

I stood behind the scene, still frozen to my spot. Whenever I blinked, the scene changed drastically. One moment I saw an emo model being bitten on the arm by a black wolf, the next both of them had disappeared and re-emerged on top of a roof of a two-story house. Below the roof, I could see the window of a bedroom shone yellow light which came from the lighting inside the room. Sitting on the window sill was a teenage boy, playing his guitar calmly.

The boy looked at the street below. His eyes met mine.

I was pretty sure the normal response when seeing a bunch of emo models and dogs fighting on the street should be… I don’t know! Maybe a scream, or a gasp, or a look of horror?

Instead of all that, the boy looked at me weirdly. As if I was the odd one from all that was happening. He frowned at me looking at him with wide eyes. Then he gave me a middle finger before dragging the curtain to obscure my view of his room.

*What the hell? Did he not see…? Also, RUDE!*

I looked to the building across from the previous house. It was another house. The first-floor window overlooked a woman washing dishes while her family was playing cards on the table behind her. At the same time, a wolf pushed an emo model –*you know what, I take it back. For the sake of easier narration, it’s easier to call them vampires* –into the front garden of the house. They were not even trying to hide their noises as they tussled with each other, turning the garden into a mess. The wolf growled loudly while the woman vampire screamed as she kicked the wolf on the face then sliced one of the wolf’s paws.

Again, I looked at the woman in the window. Surely, she must have heard that, right? If not the wolf’s howl, she should have heard the scream. But the woman carried on as if the night was still and quiet.

Not only that, there was an old man walking out from the same house carrying big plastic bags. He walked calmly, past the woman vampire and the wolf, dumped the plastic bags in the trash can, then looked at me. “Are you okay, dear?” he asked. Another wolf had just been tossed in the air and landed head first just an inch from the trash can. The thud was loud and clear. And the hisses of the man vampire who threw the wolf was even more pronounced.

“Are you okay?” the old man asked with a more concerned tone. His family inside the house started to look at me weirdly. *Why are they only looking at me? The real sight to behold is the… war between vampires and wolves!*

For a split second, I questioned myself again, whether I was hallucinating or dreaming. Or maybe, I was being flash mobbed for a reality tv show… that surprises people walking home alone at night…

But if it was a flashmob, then how could they flashmob one person for two days straight? And why me? Who would have put so much effort to create a flash mob for a nobody like me?

The answer was no one. The war happening in front of my eyes was not a flash mob. It was either my hallucination or… the real deal.

The old man started to walk toward me but a wolf was running at full speed with its jaw wide open. The aim of the wolf was a male vampire. But the old man was just a step away from blocking the wolf from reaching the vampire. In urgent, I finally opened my mouth, “No, stop!”

Luckily, the old man stopped. The wolf and the vampire clashed right in front of him and he did not even bat an eye. Instead, he gave me a weird look and clicked his tongue. “Pretty but psycho.” Without saving me another glance, he turned around and went back to his house. His whole family watched me as if I was a mental patient on the loose.

*Well, I might have been.* For all I knew, it could be all just my imagination.

But it was not. It felt so real.

*Please tell me all these are real. Because I don’t think my brain can make up all this…*

The family closed their curtains. And I was left alone in that dark street with dozens of wolves and vampires appearing and disappearing suddenly in various places.

*I am in the middle of a bloody warzone!*

The vampires and the wolves kept clashing with one another while defying time and space. I saw one black wolf tore off one vampire’s arm completely. Blood spurted everywhere, painting the black streets red. I gasped at the gore of the scene. The wolf did not stop there, it bit the vampire’s neck and in two strokes, it took off the head.

That was the first time I saw a head being detached from the body completely. The vampire’s body slumped on the street. Blood pooled beneath his body. While his head was tossed by the wolf.

The wolf howled to the night sky.

“Your leader’s dead!” a deep voice was heard from the black wolf.

*It talks???*

“The ‘Lady’ is ours to take,” the wolf continued, “and to kill.”

The black wolf turned to me. His eyes lit up in the dark. That was when I knew it was the same black wolf from the day before.

A chill went up to my spine, it spread fast to my fingertips. I took steps back from the wolf, but hearing growls arose from behind me made me stop. I was surrounded.

“The ‘Lady’ is not to be killed, Jared!” a female vampire with blonde hair hissed. Suddenly, the vampires materialized around me. They formed a circle with me in the middle. They hissed again to the wolves.

“We will take her to our lair,” the female vampire said again.

*Wait… Does that mean I’m the ‘Lady’? And the wolves want to kill me??*

“The prophecy said that she will crown the Dark Lord.”

The black wolf scoffed at the she-vampire. “And you think bringing her to your lair would make her crown your King as the Dark Lord?”

“Better than you killing her and ending this world entirely!” the she-vampire hissed back. “The world needs balance, Jared. Without darkness, there is no light. Stop acting like you’re above us all. You werewolves are the same Underworlders as the rest of us!”

The wolf called Jared growled menacingly. The other wolves followed suit.

“She will die tonight!” Jared roared.

*I’m sorry… what???*

“Over our dead bodies!” the she-vampire cried out, “And the four princes would not let you kill her!”

“They will not let your King have her as well!”

The wolf was about to jump to the she-vampire when suddenly I felt a hand grabbed my body from behind. My back hit a warm wall and before I could blink I felt gravity had failed me. My body was floating yet not floating at the same time.

When I finally blinked, I opened my eyes to the same scene. Only that the scene was two stories below. I shrieked at the sudden height. My feet grazed the bricks on the roof and I swore I could have fallen had a firm hand did not hold me.

*Holy Beelzebub! I just defied time and space! I just… teleported!*

The hand that held me shifted my body to the side. I looked to my back and my heart dropped to the floor. It was Renald Davis.

“R– Renald?”

Another hand had grabbed my body. Those hands held me up in a bridal style. I looked at the man who brazenly put their hands on me.

*Shit. None of it was a hallucination.*

Because the man who held me was the white bird –I meant, the man who wore a white shirt on the day I saw three men hovering on my window. His dark skin contrasted with his white-bluish hair. His eyes were a pair of sparkling light blue. Those orbs looked at me coldly.

“W– what is going on?” I managed to ask.

“Let’s take her to the mansion, Michael,” Renald said. He whistled. “It’ll be one hell of a run.” Then he started to take off his clothes and pants.

“W– what are you doing, Renald?” Heat flushed to my cheeks as I saw the superstar stood naked on the rooftop. A second later, his human body had warped into the huge brown wolf that I saw before.

*Shit. Shit. Shit! It was real. He was a real werewolf. He just changed in front of me! Holy shit!*

“Better start running then,” the man named Michael said. His voice was deep but unlike the crazy man in my lab before, the voice was soothing. “And in our case, we better start flying.”
