What Is Going On???
The mansion was creepy. It looked like the mansion from The Haunting of Hill House but creepier. It had vines strewn all over the pillars and walls. The bricks and concretes were covered in moss. Dead leaves piled up on the empty and dry garden.
It was horrifying.
I flinched when I saw the wings retracted to the angel’s back. Renald ran inside the mansion ahead of us. The door of the mansion just suddenly opened without anyone behind it.
*Creepy.*
The angel walked to the patio and stood at the edge of the door. He looked at me and tilted his head as if telling me to go inside. I followed him but then stopped with one foot on the wooden patio.
“Am I supposed to enter the mansion with my own will too?” I asked the angel to test him.
He could have just lied and said I didn’t have any choice. After all, I was an ordinary human woman while they were… two supernatural creatures. One could winnow and was a huge wolf. Another one could fly.
“Yes. But I suggest you do it,” he said with honesty. His light blue eyes were clear. I could not help but think that he was a pure being. One who never lies and play deceits. Just like a real angel.
“What’s my guarantee that you would not hurt me inside the mansion?”
He looked at me gently. The coldness from before had disappeared.
“I don’t even know you.”
“I’m Michael,” he said, “And no one can hurt you, Arianna.”
I scoffed. “Tell that to the wolves and vampires that were chasing me! What even are you?”
He smirked at my confused face. “For a science person, you’re quite daft, are you?”
“What?”
“I’m an angel. Renald’s a werewolf-vampire hybrid. And Tony is a demon,” he continued, “And after today, no supernatural creatures would dare lay a hand on you because he will take care of them.”
“T– there’s two more of you guys?”
Michael cocked one eyebrow up. “Didn’t you meet him today? Tony Star?”
I looked at him dumbfounded. Never have I ever heard the name Tony Star, though his name sounded familiar. I searched my brain for a Tony Star and as I had thought, I have never met someone with such a name. Especially not today.
“Messy curly hair, yellow eyes, dresses like a biker guy?”
My jaw dropped.
*It’s him. It’s him!*
“He’s a demon??”
“Yep. And he acts like one too,” Michael then said, “He’s a fucking idiot for not showing up today.”
I felt sweat drenching my back. “Umm… That’s because I told him to do whatever the psychiatrists were telling him to do.”
“You what?” Renald just came out from inside the mansion. He was already in his human form and was just putting on his shirt. He only wore a simple boxer and was barefooted. An amused smile bloomed on his youthful face. “Did you send him to a psychiatric ward?”
“Uh… pretty much.”
The two men looked at me with a blank face. A second later, Renald burst out laughing while Michael covered his mouth in an attempt to hold his laughter. Michael failed, his shoulders shook arduously. While Renald had to grab his stomach to withstand his laughter.
I took turns looking at them. Confused as to what they found funny in my statement. Logically, you would get mad if you find out that someone has put someone you know in a mental ward, right? Or perhaps you would be concerned for that person. But these two men just… laughed. Worse, they laughed as if they had never laughed in years.
“Jeez, you’re something aren’t you, Ann?” Michael asked.
*Ann? Only one person ever calls me Ann…*
“I would love to see Tony’s expression when you sent him to the ward,” Renald said, “You should come in, Arianna, and tell us all about it.”
They quieted down when they saw my expression. I was still unsure. In front of me were two men that I never knew of. Except, maybe, for Renald Davis I could search him on google. But I did not know him as a werewolf-vampire hybrid. Neither did the whole world. I also did not know Michael who called himself an angel.
I may have accepted that this was the reality but I had not yet trusted my life with these two people. Though so far, they have done nothing but save my life.
“Why me?” I asked seriously. “Why were they chasing me? The wolves talked about killing me a– and the vampires talked about bringing me to their King. Why me?” My voice was raised in the end. I needed to know. Why all of these supernatural things happened around me? I had enough shit in my life, I did not need supernatural shit to haunt me as well!
“You better come in, Arianna, “ Michael said gently, “Have a hot drink. And we will explain to you what is going on.”
My jaw tightened. It was a risk to step into their haunted mansion to search for an answer. And I did promise myself I would not do what stupid female leads in paranormal stories often do; step into the danger zone herself. But I wanted answers. I wanted to know why my life was in danger when the other 8 billion people in the world were not. And hell, at that time I took back my words saying that those protagonists are stupid. They were just trying to get answers. And there was bravery in that action.
So, I decided to be brave too. I stepped on the patio and into the mansion. I would get my answers. But I vowed, I would not be a stupid protagonist.
Note, I was not even sure if I was the protagonist. I could very well just be a side character in this story. Who knows? Nonetheless, I would find out.
And for the second time that week, I made a silent prayer to Jesus.
*Dear Lord, please have mercy on this sinner.*
