Chapter XXX: Meeting and First Mission
"Hi, Amaris!" Sanya greeted me enthusiastically and walked over to where I was standing.
"Good morning." I just did my daily routine every time I am greeting her.
I heard her giggle when I kissed her cheek. Her twin, Tanya approached me as well and gave me a tight hug. This twins never failed to treat me so well. They are making sure that they can make me feel that I belong.
"I'm just about to pick you up at the entrance.” Sanya cleared her throat as her gaze turn to the man behind me. "But someone was way too ahead of me, and already done that, hmmm…”
A playful smirk on her lips did not escape my sight before she guided me to the seat next to her.
As I sat down, Caden's serious face greeted me and when I turned my attention to the one next to him, Amalia's glaring eyes met mine.
I just ignored that. I’m kind of getting used with how she looks at me every day. I am not surprise anymore, for I know she can do something more than that.
"Why are you with her?" Amalia asked impatiently as she looked at the King of Elites with too much wary in her eyes.
“We are not here to talk about that. Keep your mouth shut,” Caden said with no remorse and hurt was immediately drawn on her beautiful face.
I just avoided my gaze. I don’t know if I’ll pity Amalia, or think that she deserves that because she keeps on pestering my life.
"Let that b*tch, Amaris. I am rooting for you for the King…” Sanya whispered to me.
I am about to ask her what does she meant by the last thing she said, but Caden already started our meeting.
“You all still remember what Mr. Hipolito tackled yesterday?” We all nodded in unison.
“We have a mission and it is to find the Camellia Japonica. I don't know what it looks like and I want you Carmel to make a research about it.”
“Copy, King,” Carmel answered and immediately started typing on her laptop while the others were listening and waiting for the King’s command to each one of us.
"That flower can only be found at the Hollow Heights." Caden continued and I heard the continuous sighs from the creatures I am with as of the moment. Even Carmel stopped from typing when she heard that.
“Hollow Heights? As in Mountain of the Deads?” Ashton asked as if he is assuring that he doesn’t heard it wrong.
Caden nodded at him, remaining his stoic face.
The others let out another set of sighs and I can’t blame them.
I have heard stories about the said mountain when I was a kid through Mamita and Mr. Bear. It was called the Mountain of the Deads, because no living tree, animal or plant can be found there. It is also guarded by a giant wizard who is believed to possess the power of immortality. No one can kill that wizard because he will just again raise from the dead. It is also said that all the creatures that go there never find their way back, and has no other choice but to face their death in that place.
"There are a lot of places in the world, and that flower really chose to grow there!” Stephan shook his head in dismay. "They can grow next to our palace and I won’t even complain—Ouch sh*t, Tanya!”
He groaned when Tanya hits the back of his head. Just by hearing the loud thump, I know that hurts.
“If you're scared, then don't come. Coward!” Tanya rolled her eyes and was about to pull Stephan’s hair when the latter caught her hand.
“I never said I was scared. I just suggested the flower to grow for less complicated place next time,” Stephan said and even manage to wink at Tanya who’s now starting to get pissed. But instead of getting afraid, he just let out a hearty laugh that seconded by Ashton.
“Stephan has a point, Tanya. Don’t be mad.” Ashton grins, joining in teasing Tanya.
They just stopped when they heard Caden growling and looking at them like he would devour them. Stephan even acted like he is zipping his mouth, while Ashton bit his lower lip.
“Deserved, assh*les!” Tanya murmurs as she gave death glares at the two men.
“Anyway, why do we need to get that flower?” Sanya interrupted them.
“That flower can help to control the poison from spreading to the body of the victim. We all know that once we got bitten by a tainted creature, we will slowly get turned like them.” Caden started to explain the situation, and I’m all ears while listening to them.
I want to know what I can contribute to the group. I have been waiting for this, helping others.
“We had a meeting with the leaders of the other towns, and one of them is asking for our help. Some flawed creatures began to invade their town. The infected are under protection and we need to act immediately to find a way. It would be more difficult when they get into the city.”
“They are attacking again. How many years has it been since their last attack?” Drake asked in a serious tone.
“They have also been silent for five years. That is why almost everyone is imprisoned in the Forbidden Forest,” Ashton replied. “When will they get into extinct!”
“Where did they come from? Why are there creatures like them?” I am just quiet since the meeting started, but I don’t think I can be silenced with this matter. I want to know how and when.
There is a sudden silence after I asked that question. They all looked at me like I have said something uh… illegal or funny? I calmed down and adjusted from my seat.
Should I haven’t asked that question?
“No one knows. It’s just one day, there was a sudden attack in the whole Wromouth and targeted the Laurent University. Those creatures have also been a perversion in life for several years but it is not known who did it,” Drake explained while looking at me intently.
I smiled as a sign of my gratitude.
"How long will the mission take us?" Amalia asked. She was so quiet the entire duration of the conversation.
“There is no time frame but if we could do it in a span of three days, then that’s great. We will leave tomorrow, exactly at two in the morning,” Caden replied and turned to Jasper. "Can you make smoke bombs for us?"
“Yes, King. I still have spares at home, but I will also make few later to supply us,” Jasper said and saluted him.
“I want you all to bring thick clothes, or anything resistant to the cold. Also bring foods that will last for three days or more. Bring your preferred weapons. We need to be prepared because we do not know what we will encounter on the day of our missions.” Caden stood up and took something from the cabinet behind him.
"Get your own masks. You need it for protection in case we use the smoke bomb." He laid on the table the various colors of materials that we can use to cover our nose and mouth. I just took the color black.
“I will give you an early dismissal to prepare for our mission. I have already talked to the headmaster about this. Does anyone still has a question? If none, you can all go. I hope no one will be late tomorrow.” A simple smile didn’t even flash on his lips throughout the duration of the meeting, and I was shocked when he suddenly looked at my direction.
I absentmindedly cling my hand on Sanya’s arm for support. Thankfully, Caden didn’t ask any more questions and immediately averted his eyes from me and turned to others.
I suddenly fell into a deep thought about the mission that has to be done tomorrow. It's my duty and responsibility to do something for all the creatures here in our world, but I don't know if my Mamita will allow me to go.
I still have something to deal with when I got home. I hope this will turn out well.
