16__Vampire training, my foot!
Viktor stared into the swirling greens of Kamilla’s eyes as she looked up at him. She blinked when he didn’t answer and Viktor clenched his jaw. There could be no getting distracted by her beauty right now, he had to find out!
Something told him that this Charming character was trouble. Why else would Damon be trying to keep him a secret for so long?
Damon never kept secrets from Viktor, but for the past few hundred years, this was obviously being kept hidden. It made Viktor wary. What was so bad, Damon actually kept it from him? He was afraid to find out, so he never asked. Until now.
“Tell me,” he said to Kamilla.
She bit her lip. “It’s a secret. Damon said so…”
Viktor’s eyes narrowed to blue slits. “Is your loyalty to me or to Damon?”
Kamilla scowled. “Right now, it’s to Charming because he’s the only one who’s a bloody gentleman!”
“Who the hell is he?!” Viktor demanded.
Her eyes narrowed and her pink mouth puckered out in a pout. “That’s it!! I won’t tell you!”
Viktor sighed. “No, don’t do that. Fine! I’m sorry I yelled…”
Kamilla wiggled around in his arms until he let her go so she could walk unsteadily across to his bed. He watched her climb onto the high bed, her butt round and shapely from where he stood. Viktor groaned.
Why had they gotten her so many jeans? It was fucking with his brain. Kamilla collapsed onto her back and suddenly started to giggle. Viktor frowned, walking slowly over to her.
He leaned onto the bed, his knee resting beside her hip. She blinked up at him, her eyes twinkling with intoxication and mirth.
“What’s so funny?”
Kamilla sat up on her elbows and grinned. “I was just thinking, remember how the other night it was you? Now I’m the drunk one, it’s like we switched roles!”
With that, she collapsed on the bed in a fit of giggles.
Viktor blinked. What a strange creature she was. What she said made no sense because Viktor could not get drunk. No Vampire could.
Kamilla sighed. “And you fell on me and squished me because you’re so heavy…” she whispered drowsily to the ceiling.
After a minute of silent staring, Viktor sighed and decided to let it go. She was out of it. Slowly, he stretched himself out on his side beside her, studying her pink-cheeked face.
Kamilla turned on her side, groaning with the effort. When she got settled, she looked up at Viktor, quickly scooting up on the bed so they were face to face.
He didn’t move, only watched her, even as she scooted closer to him, bringing her mischievously grinning face a few inches from his.
She was the classic drunk, he noticed. Pink cheeks, twinkling eyes with hiccups, and jolliness to boot. Viktor felt something strong stir deep inside of him.
Kamilla stuck out a finger and poked his cheek. “Your eyes are glowing really hard…” she whispered as she stared, her mouth curved in a smile so alluring, Viktor had to drag his gaze away from it. “I know what that means now.”
He raised a brow. “Do you?”
Kamilla nodded. “Mm-hmm. It means…” She tilted her face up at him. “That you want me.”
Viktor choked on air. She erupted in laughter, the sound as rich and intoxicating as the wine she’d drunk.
“It’s okay,” she cheerfully assured him with a pat on his head. Her hand lingered and she was soon trailing her fingers through his hair. “I know you can’t help it, Viktor. So don’t try to deny it… I feel everything you feel, remember?” She was whispering now and he had to clench his jaw to not lean into her touch. He didn’t understand how it was possible for her to control him this way. He was the Vampire King, for crying out loud!
“You should sleep, Kamilla,” Viktor murmured, his throat tight with tension, his groin tighter with desire.
She withdrew her hand slowly, tracing the shape of his jaw before she tucked her fingers beneath her head.
She blinked slowly at him, eyes droopy with sleep. “Why? Because you want me so much, you’re afraid you might just bite?”
Viktor moved closer and Kamilla was stunned to see the glint of his sharp fangs. “Exactly.”
****************
Lightning cracked the sky in two, thunder booming loudly after it. Rain poured from the grey morning sky in heavy sheets, fat drops drenching everything exposed.
Kamilla snuggled deeper into her warm pillows, a content sleepy smile curving her mouth. Oh, yes. This was the life. Snuggled up in her warm bed with rain pouring outside making all things cozy. What more could she ask for?
“Are you happy?”
The sarcastic tone jerked Kamilla awake, her eyes instantly opening wide even if they took seconds to focus.
And when they focused, she saw nothing past Viktor’s naked chest as he sat up in the bed beside her. She blinked at it, with its hard dips and curves.
My, my, thought Kamilla.
Her gaze rose to meet his and the scowl on his handsome face was so endearing in its annoyance, she couldn’t help but grin.
His dark blue eyes narrowed on her. “Up! Don’t you grin at me after your shameful spectacle last night! The queen of Onyx as drunk as a sailor.”
Kamilla rolled her eyes and pushed herself into a sitting position. “I wasn’t drunk…”
“You were. Luckily, you won’t suffer from a hangover. Isn’t your oh-so-horrific Vampire half just so convenient at times like this?”
Viktor watched as she silently yawned and stretched, that damn grin still not leaving her face. He scowled harder. She had the gall to grin? After what she did to him last night?!
Viktor’s jaw clenched. Did Kamilla think it was fun for him to have her body rub and press against him all damn night? Did she think she could get away with torturing him like that?! Viktor had nearly run mad, his self-control stretched to its thinnest, his desire taking over his entire body.
He’d nearly died last night.
Kamilla sighed happily, slowly turning to face Viktor’s glare as lightning flashed through the sky, making his face look sharper and even more beautiful. His jaw was taut with tension and she cheerfully rubbed her fingers there.
“Now, now, King of Onyx. It won’t do you any good to shatter your teeth from clenching, will it?” she asked him.
Viktor caught her hand, pulling it away from his chin before he became unable to stop himself from devouring her right where she sat.
“You think it’s funny, Kamilla? Should I show you something funny?”
Kamilla was about to enthusiastically nod but stopped herself when his mouth curved in a smile as scary as it was sexy.
She gulped.
*****************
The rain was pouring in sheets.
At this point, Kamilla was certain there was some giant in the sky just pouring endless buckets of water over Onyx. And right onto her head.
She wiped a hand over drenched her face for the hundredth time, trying to see through the rain.
Bloody Viktor! How could he send her out into the rain?!
What? Vampire training? Hah! Her foot!
Kamilla had never heard a more pathetic excuse in her life!
Why would she need to perfect her powers in the pouring rain?!
She huffed, keeping her cloaked head low as the Legion walked carelessly about her. Her “trainers” apparently weren’t bothered by the rain.
Kamilla looked around the forest and shuffled over to a tree, but got little protection from the rain.
“When can we go back?!” she yelled over the sound of thunder.
Vlad crouched nearby just turned away, ignoring her.
Seth looked over from where he and Xavier were making some kind of energy ball.
“In a little while, my Queen,” he said with a smile. “We’ll teach you the basics for today and see you safely home.”
Kamilla made a face. “Uhm, if you don’t teach much and we bum around at a nearby bar, I promise not to tell Viktor!!” she yelled back.
Syre appeared by her side with a chuckle. “He’d know, my Queen,” he said, his black hair slicked back from the rain. “Also, don’t stand under a tree during a storm.”
Kamilla was about to answer when he turned and disappeared. Lightning lit up the forest again and Kamilla quickly darted over to where Seth and Xavier were. The minute she reached them, Seth turned to her, the ball of energy in his hand.
“Here. This will help get you through the training.”
Kamilla eyed it skeptically. “What is that?”
He simply tossed it at her chest and Kamilla yelped when it disappeared into her.
“What the hell!” she gasped, staring at her chest.
Why had he just thrown a ball of electricity at her?! When she looked back up to glare at Seth, she blinked at the empty space.
Kamilla turned around in circles, seeing nothing but rain and trees. She huffed in disbelief. No way. Had she just teleported?! This part of the forest had thicker, darker trees and Kamilla felt herself blend in, her black cloak hiding her.
Until she heard it.
The crackle of a fire. Kamilla’s cloaked head inched to the side, following the sound. A fire? In this storm? She spun around with a frown and froze when her eyes landed on it.
A whole fire.
On the forest floor, under the damn rain.
Kamilla blinked at the fire and then at the thing next to it. A rock? At first nothing more than a black huddle, she didn’t stare for long. But when it shifted and rose, Kamilla took a whole step back.
“O-okay, Viktor,” she whispered, hoping he’d somehow hear her. “I’m ready to leave now.” The dark figure continued to rise. “Please…”
Kamilla stared wide-eyed as it turned around and the darkness turned into a cloak that swept open, revealing a beautiful rosy face.
Kamilla stared at the woman. Had she just come out of a rock?
“Hello,” said the woman with an enchanting smile. “You must be Kamilla.”
