31__Keeping Secrets
The elevator was silent as it rose. Viktor bit his bottom lip, keeping his gaze as focused on the numbers as Kamilla did on his face.
She was burning to say something, he could just feel it. She was practically vibrating from the effort remaining silent required. Before he could stop himself, Viktor scoffed out a laugh at her predicament.
Kamilla immediately reacted. “What’s so funny?” she asked.
Viktor glanced at her. She crossed her arms and looked up at him, her eyes narrowed in accusation.
He had no clue just what she was accusing him off? Being a billionaire? Well, in that case, he was guilty.
Kamilla scoffed when he silently shrugged. “Mr. *King*,” she murmured, shaking her head. Viktor couldn’t help the smile that curved his lips. “When were you going to tell me that you had a whole gigantic company? More importantly, a *surname*?! Is that even your surname? Or did you just want these humans to low-key treat you like the royalty you secretly are?”
The doors opened to a wide, brightly lit floor and Viktor walked out with a sigh. Kamilla hurried out after him.
“Nothing to say for yourself, Mr. King?” she hissed in his ear.
Viktor jumped when her sudden breath tickled his ear. He gave her a look as he rubbed his ear. “I owe you zero explanations, Kamilla.”
Kamilla put a hand to her chest and blinked at him. “Well, pardon me, *Mr. King*!”
Viktor ignored her and walked over to a pair of black doors, nodding at the blonde receptionist across the hall. She woman turned pink, scrabbling about to stand and greet Viktor.
Kamilla blinked at the lady’s flustered state and went in after Viktor.
The office doors were already closing behind her, but Kamilla was still staring at the magnitude of the room.
“Geez, what is this? An office or a whole freaking museum?” she wondered, blinking at the high ceiling.
Her gaze came back to Viktor as he sat his desk and turned on his fancy devices ready to work and ignore her.
Only, Kamilla wouldn’t have it.
She hurried over to the desk and leaned over it, until he had no choice but to look at her face.
“So your name is really Viktor King?” she asked with wide eyes. Viktor blinked in boredom. Kamilla frowned. “Oh, just tell me! Is this what we’re doing now? Huh? Keeping secrets from each other?!”
Viktor narrowed his eyes on her. “Since when did we have sworn loyalty to each other in the first place? Also, I didn’t keep it a secret, I just didn’t feel the need to tell you, Kamilla. You clearly don’t hold that much importance.”
With that, he turned away from her and flipped open his laptop.
Kamilla scoffed. She crossed her arms and shook her head. “Why, oh, why, Viktor, do you try so hard to pretend to hate me?”
Viktor looked up at her with a frown. “Why do you assume I’m pretending?”
Kamilla tilted her head. “Uh, because you nearly had a heart attack when I fought that werewolf. You care about me, Viktor King, admit it!”
Viktor looked up at her little triumphant smirk. “That’s what you think?”
Kamilla smiled and flipped her hair over her shoulder. “Why, of course! You even got super worried when Rogan cornered me in your study. Stop the mind games, Viktor.”
With a scoff, Viktor pushed out of his seat and walked slowly around the table to where she stood.
“You get too far ahead of yourself, little one.”
Kamilla narrowed her eyes and widened her devilish little smile. “Oh, please. Nobody can fake that kind of concern.” She poked him in the arm. “You were really worried about me, weren’t you?”
Viktor put his hands in his pockets and gave her a bored look. “I was merely concerned about all the things I’d have to do if you died. Give reasons for your death, put the kingdom in mourning. Royal funeral and such. Quite an unnecessary expense.”
Kamilla narrowed her eyes sharply.
“You—”
“Be quiet! I need to make a phone call.” Viktor put two fingers against her forehead and nudged her out of his way.
Kamilla jerked her head away with a scowl. “You think you’re all high and mighty, don’t you?” she demanded.
Viktor put his back to her, determined to not show her the amusement in his eyes. He didn't understand why he found her ridiculous behaviour so endearing.
Just why on earth was her outraged little hands-on-hips pose and her angrily flushed cheeks so damn… cute?
Viktor froze halfway through dialling the number on his phone. Cute? What kind of abominable word had he just used?!
“Are you ignoring me?” Kamilla asked in a dangerously careful manner.
Viktor looked at her over his shoulder. He stared at her. Goddamn it. Cute? What kind of Vampire King uses such worthless adjectives?
“Viktor?” Kamilla said, snapping her fingers before his eyes.
“I said be quiet, I’m making a call.” Composing himself, Viktor sighed and nudged her off to the side.
Kamilla gasped and went practically flying to the other end of the room. “What kind of Violence is this?!” she demanded.
Viktor held up a hand as he put the phone to his ear. “Oh, for God’s sake, I definitely didn’t push you that hard.”
Kamilla came stomping over. Deep inside, she knew she was being ridiculous, but that’s what he got for not telling her he had a surname! As well as a huge company. She practically didn’t know this man!
She poked him in the chest as soon as she reached him. “You, buddy, have just made yourself an enemy!”
Viktor’s mouth twitched as he looked down at her and Kamilla narrowed her eyes on those offensively sensual lips.
If he just dared to smile, she would end him! Was she a joke to him? She practically made a fool of herself downstairs trying to get him to fit in and look regular when he bloody well owned the whole building! Oh, the embarrassment.
“Yes. Viktor King here,” spoke Viktor into the phone.
Kamilla scoffed in disbelief. “I’m not done with the conversation! How can you ignore me this way! First, you didn’t tell me you’re Viktor King—”
“I’d like to speak with the Chief Medical Examiner. Yes.”
“—and that you own a giant company, then you pushed me to the other side of room with *no* apology! Now, you’re—”
Viktor sighed. “Hello, Larry. Kindly give me a moment, please.”
Kamilla was still talking when Viktor pulled the phone away from his ear, took rapid one step towards her as he curled his hand around her neck.
She only had a second to blink before he jerked her forward and sealed her mouth with his. Kamilla went completely still. Viktor pressed her harder against his mouth, using the element of surprise to slip between her soft lips.
Kamilla gasped at the feel of his tongue touching hers and he took the chance to kiss her deeper, tilting her head for better access. He tasted every inch of her sweet mouth, loving how she moaned without realizing it.
Kamilla’s fingers were curled into the collar of his jacket when Viktor pulled away.
He tilted his head, studying her dazed state. Nodding in satisfaction, Viktor put the phone back to his ear. Good, she’d be quiet now. It didn’t matter that he’d been wanting to do that since he changed her clothes last night.
“Yes, Larry… Indeed, it is good to be back. I’m calling about the body in your laboratory. The one killed by a Vamp. Yeah. Let me cut to the chase. How much do you want for it?”
When Viktor chuckled into the phone, Kamilla blinked. She looked at him as he ran a hand through his black hair and she slowly touched a finger to her lips.
Had he just kissed her?! Wait, that hadn’t been a kiss. He’d ravaged her mouth. She released a shaky scoff.
He had to do that just to keep her quiet? Geez, talk about over-exaggerating! He could have simply duct-taped her mouth! Why ambush her so suddenly when her defences weren’t even ready?
Feeling sorry for herself, Kamilla pouted and shuffled away to sit in his office lounge area and glare at him from afar. How dare he have such power over her?
She shook her head when he ended his call and turned to face her. “You’re so weird,” Kamilla murmured, still battling to drain the blush out of her cheeks.
Viktor didn’t miss the red stained cheeks however. He tilted his head with a raised brow. “Why is that? Because I can easily turn your desire for me on like a light switch?”
Kamilla coughed as she choked on air. “What?! Hah! You wish, neck-sucker!” Viktor laughed, angering her even further. “I only said that because you’re buying a freaking corpse!! Who does that?!”
Viktor smiled a slow, torturously attractive smile. “Who does that? Vampire Kings who have entire Kingdoms to protect, that’s who.” He shrugged. “If there’s no body, how do they discover what kind of Vamp killed her?”
Kamilla thought for a second and shook her head. “They can’t.”
Viktor nodded once. “Exactly.”
