18__How to kill a Vampire King
Kamilla counted to fifty. Biting painfully on her bottom lip, she closed her eyes and counted back to zero.
She would stay calm. She would not lose it. She would not rip Viktor’s face off!
He’d left the room and left her hovering in the air like a freaking hoverboard, but she would not lose her temper!
The doors swung open and Viktor strode in, Damon behind him.
He immediately walked over to Kamilla. “Good, you’re still here.”
Kamilla shot a lethal glare at him. “Where the hell would I go?! Let me down from here right now before I shove a freaking stake through your neck!”
Viktor crossed his arms. “How charming. I must inform you that that wouldn’t kill me, it’s the heart you should aim for. Now enough of this chit-chat. Tell Damon what you told me.”
Kamilla shot a hand out to grab his collar and growled when Viktor ducked out of the way.
“Get over here! Let me rip your perfect little face to shreds!” she growled.
He had the audacity to laugh. Laugh!
“Just a minute now, Kamilla,” said Viktor, not bothering to hide his wicked grin. “Just tell Damon what you told me and this will all be over.”
Clenching her teeth, Kamilla straightened her body and rested her hands above her stomach, forcing herself to relax.
With a gentle exhale, she eased all tension from her body and stared blankly at the ceiling. The moment she got down, she would rip Viktor’s hair out one strand at a time.
“Are you now rational?” Viktor asked. Kamilla’s teeth clenched again when she heard the evil glee in his tone. Oh, she’d rip his hair out for sure.
Struggling to maintain her calm, she gave a simple nod.
Damon cleared his throat. “Are you two done?”
Kamilla blinked blankly at the ceiling. “Ask away, Demon.”
There was a pause after her deliberate mispronunciation of his name during which Damon rubbed his temples in an effort to keep his own wits about him.
“Okay, so what happened again?” asked Damon.
Kamilla gave a tiny shrug. “Well, Demon, I was about to begin training with the guys when I appeared before the woman and she bewitched me.”
He blinked at her dull tone. “Yeah, I’m gonna need more details.”
“Yeah, Kamilla, stop slacking,” said Viktor, pleasantly stroking her flowing hair.
Kamilla’s flat hands turned into fists. That blood-sucker! That’s it. It was time to murder him.
“What happened was,” she told Damon. “I suddenly appeared before the sorceress called Rena and she cast some kind of spell on me. She said my presence makes Viktor stronger so she was trying to make me tell her how I do it. She wanted to know what Viktor’s weaknesses were. Those were the questions she asked and I actually wanted to tell her, cause of the spell, but I suddenly snapped out of it and actually hated the sight of her right after that. Then I disappeared again and reappeared at the forest exit. Are we done here?”
The two men were silent.
Damon crossed his arms and looked at Viktor with a serious expression. “She… she fought off Rena?”
Viktor nodded. “That’s exactly what shocked me. My little bride here seems to be powerful enough to fight off a sorceress who’s a hundred and seventy-eight years older than her. Fucking incredible.”
“Can I come down now?!” demanded Kamilla.
“Come to think of it,” said Viktor, ignoring Kamilla. “If Rena was trying to find out if I have a weakness, she’s with someone. The witches never do anything for themselves, someone’s with her. She couldn’t come at me directly because I’d obviously break her in two, so she tries to corner my half-human soulmate.”
Damon nodded. “And now she realizes that Kamilla could very well be as powerful as you. Definitely a kick to Rena’s pride. She won’t stop now. She’ll try again.”
Viktor smiled a cold smile. “When she does… we’ll be ready for her.”
Kamilla bit her lip, staring at the ceiling, counting from zero to a hundred and back until Damon had left the room.
She was practically vibrating with anger and if that miserable bond between her and Viktor was real, she knew he felt it.
The door closed and Viktor turned to her with a smile any cunning goblin would be proud of.
“Now then, my sweet—”
“Let me down, Viktor,” Kamilla said through gritted teeth.
Viktor back away from her as he started to slowly lower her body to the sofa. He bit back his grin as she lowered, his feet ready to make a run for it.
She was plotting to kill him, he could feel it!
Damn, her anger was so dark right now, Viktor wondered if she really would murder him.
The moment her body rested completely against the sofa, Kamilla’s head slowly turned to him.
A few seconds passed in tense silence while she stared at him from the sofa, her eyes cold and calculating and Viktor stood as ready to bolt as a wary deer.
In a flash Kamilla darted off the sofa, but Viktor wasn’t slow in making his escape. With a cold draft of air, he’d carried himself into his chambers to escape her wrath.
A second away from celebrating his escape, a pair of arms wrapped around Viktor’s neck from the back, choking the life out of him.
“Think you got away?!” Kamilla snarled in his ear as she wrapped her legs around him and clung to his back like a baby koala with a hundred times more strength. Viktor thought she would crush his ribs.
He stumbled around the room trying to pry her hands off.
“What the hell, Kamilla? Did you just teleport with me?!”
“Isn’t it amazing?!” said Kamilla, tightening her grip around his neck. “We must really be soulmates! Pity-I-have-to-kill-you-so-soon!”
Viktor dropped to his knees, realizing that he had to be mad to be laughing at that moment, but he was. He was in freaking stitches.
“You think it’s funny?!” Kamilla demanded. “You bat-winged neck-sucker! I’ll rip your batwings off and make a pair of chopsticks with the bones, I swear!”
Viktor fell over from the tussle and Kamilla released her hold until he was on his back then which she sat upon his abdomen and wrapped both hands firmly around his throat.
Viktor looked up at her with green eyes full of amusement. “Your threats are rather extreme, my Queen. I— oomph!” She elbowed him in the ribs.
“I haven’t even shown you extreme!” she yelled, putting as much strength into her strangling as possible. “Now, die!”
Viktor made a show of choking, complete with multiple gagging and gasping sounds. "Help!” he wheezed. “Mad woman— trying— to kill me!”
“This is what you get for sending me out in the rain and hanging me in the air for an hour like a freaking ghost!” snarled Kamilla.
Viktor made more sputtering noises and Kamilla watched his arms fall limply to the ground.
“That’s right. Die, you evil gnome!”
Her breathing finally began to even out as Kamilla felt her anger fade. Panting, she eased her hands off of his neck and looked down at his face.
Good. He was dead.
Wait.
What?
Kamilla swallowed to moisten her dried throat as she stared at Viktor’s unmoving face. His eyes stared up at her, a fading green, and Kamilla slowly went cold.
Oh, shit. Had she really killed him?
She reached out a tentative hand and poked him in the chest. “V-Viktor?”
He didn’t move. Kamilla’s heart began to race again. No way. She hadn’t really killed the King of Onyx! With a frightened whimper, she inched back on him and lowered her ear to his chest to hear his heartbeat.
Kamilla listened and listened and listened. Nothing. His chest was as silent as a tomb. She froze against him. No way. Was he really dead?!
Quickly, she sat up and began shaking him by his massive shoulders. “Viktor? Viktor?! Viktor, wake up!” No response. Tears were streaming down her face now. Oh, no! Her and her rotten temper! She should have controlled her anger! “Viktor, please wake up, I’m sorry!!” she begged, shaking him violently. “Please, w—”
Kamilla screamed when she was suddenly swept to the ground as Viktor switched their positions. A very much alive Viktor!
A slow grin spread wickedly across his face as he sat on top of her.
Kamilla gasped. “You-you… you were playing dead!”
Viktor laughed evilly. “It could never be that easy to kill me, sweetheart. I’m a Vampire King.”
“Why, you…!”
Forgetting all about controlling her temper, Kamilla’s hands shot up to strangle him again, but this time, Viktor easily caught them in his hands and had her arms held down on the floor over her head in seconds.
She struggled to no avail, twisting her wrists and shuffling against the floor to get free.
“Let me go!”
“All your movements are only serving to further arouse me, Kamilla. Do you know that?”
She froze and stared at him. “W-what?”
Viktor’s mouth curved in a smile that had Kamilla’s resistance melting. He lowered his face until it was just a whisper above hers. “I’ll show you what.”
