82__Mum's on his side, damn it
Kamilla grinned evilly as she silently closed her bedroom door. Throwing her bag on the bed, she tossed her head back and cackled.
Viktor was currently being question by her mom in the kitchen and oh, what joy! Nobody could totally destroy their opponent in an argument like her mom!
She knew she shouldn’t have, but Kamilla went ahead and put Viktor right at the mouth of the lion’s cave. Hell, she’d tossed him right into the lion’s mouth! He deserved at least *something* of the sort after all he put her through. Cancelling her registration was the last straw!
Grinning, she skipped over to her closet and dragged her jeans off. She’d showered and changed in Onyx before heading home, with the shower having taken two hours because someone had insisted on showering together to “save water”.
Sighing in contentment, Kamilla tugged on an extra-large woolen jersey that reached mid-thigh and put on long fuzzy socks before taking a few minutes to wash her face and brush her teeth in the bathroom.
Travelling from Onyx to the States or to England always left her feeling like she’d gone literally from one end of the world to another, hence the urge to wash up.
All freshened up, Kamilla eagerly tip-toed to her bedroom door and cracked it open. Grinning like the Grinch, she strained her ears to listen.
Was he repenting yet? Were his ears bleeding from the scolding? She could barely hold in her delight!
Biting her lip, she tip-toed down the hallway and toward the kitchen.
When the warm, aroma-filled room came into view across the living room, Kamilla froze.
She tilted her head at the sight. She couldn’t hear what they were saying in hushed tones to one another, but just the sight of them did something to her heart.
Viktor was huge compared to her mother and his all black outfit beside Adelaide’s yellow sundress, pink cheeks and smiley face apron was oddly pleasing. He had both hands folded between his thighs, listening attentively to whatever her mother was explaining with elaborate gestures. It looked like Jack had invited the giant for tea and he was currently entranced by the little person’s storytelling.
Kamilla snorted at her own comparison and slowly approached the kitchen. She sighed with a smile. Oh, how precious they looked with—
“...broken, yes, she broke his arm!” said Adelaide with wide eyes.
Kamilla froze a step away from the kitchen entrance. Oh, no. Not that story again.
“The boy hadn’t been teasing her for even ten minutes before she was sitting on his back and pulling his hair out!”
Kamilla narrowed her eyes. She’d been eleven-years-old! And that snot-nosed boy had been getting on her nerves for days, calling her an ugly alien, so of course when he’d tried to escape from the consequences of his actions, it was only right for her to push him! He’d then tried to push her back, but she’d ducked and he missed. Too bad he broke his arm when he fell. At least she could be sure he never tried to bully anyone ever again. Anyway, it wasn’t her fault!
Viktor shook his head, looking utterly shocked. “Unbelievable. Kamilla’s always been like that?”
Her mom nodded gravely, pouring them more tea in the cute little tea cups. “She has. That’s why, although very sorry, I’m not surprised that she put you through so much.”
Kamilla’s jaw fell open.
Viktor suddenly looked unbearably sad. “One time she punched me in the face over and over until I bled.”
Kamilla’s jaw was practically on the floor now.
Adelaide gasped. “You poor dear! How did you put up with her?”
Releasing a breath of disbelief, Kamilla stomped in, making them both turn to face her. “Excuse me?!” she said loudly. “I can hear you, you know?!” She glared at Viktor. “You would barely feel a punch from Iron Man, mine probably felt like *marshmallows*, Viktor!”
He looked up at her and giving her the most innocent blink, said, “But I *bled*, Kamilla.”
Flustered, she looked at him with wide eyes, unable to say another word. Damn him! He’d actually managed to make her feel guilty.
Adelaide tutted. “Put this nice young man through a lot, haven’t you?” She looked at Viktor. “I’m sorry, love, I should have sent you a note of warning when you decided to take her. And all this time I worried that she would be the one in danger.”
Sighing, Viktor nodded as he picked up his Barbie doll tea cup and actually sipped from it!
Kamilla was beyond shocked.
“Mum!” she said, making her mom jump and spill some tea.
Adelaide looked at her. “What? You’ve made me spill my tea, Kamilla!”
“Firstly, he’s not a young man, he’s five centuries old. Secondly, you were supposed to *grill* him with questioning! Not feed him scones and gossip about how horrible I am.”
Viktor narrowed his eyes. “That’s what you were hoping for?”
Crossing her arms, Kamilla huffed and avoided his gaze. “Not... exactly.” Pouting, she looked at her mom. “W-what about my registration? He did all that without your permission—”
“Your mum and I have agreed that it would be much more convenient if you went to school in England. Ms. Drew’s moving back there, I’m always there for work and you can spend time with your cousin, Elizabeth. However, the *choice*... remains yours.”
He smiled at her, but Kamilla wasn’t fooled. She saw the glint in his eye. He was the Vampire King. He wasn’t about to listen to his mate choose to be thousands of miles away from him. Hah. He would drag her ass to Onyx with him for sure, if she chose to stay.
And what a bloody bummer that she didn’t really want to stay in the US either. It would have been so much more exciting if Kamilla was determined to study here! Viktor would have lost his mind! Just the thought was enough to bring laughter to her mouth.
Rolling her eyes, Kamilla crossed her arms and gave Viktor a side eye. “I’ll think about it.”
Viktor’s mouth curved as he read her like a book. “Alright then.” Quietly pushing back his chair, he stood. “I’m afraid I have to be on my way now, Ms. Drew.”
Kamilla’s mom blinked and pointed back at the oven. “Oh, no, you can’t leave. Supper's almost ready!”
Kamilla puckered her lips. “He barely eats anything other than guts and blood, ma.”
Viktor gave her a look. “What’s wrong with you? She's lying, Ms. Drew, I do eat food.”
Adelaide looked dejected, tugging at her apron. “Well, stay for dinner then. It’s not every day I get to talk to someone who knows exactly what a handful my daughter is.”
Kamilla eyed Viktor with a smirk. Oh, how he hated being overfed! That was the reason why Demetrius loved Kamilla so much. Little did Viktor know that her mom was even worse than Demetrius when it came to feeding people.
“Oh, come on, Viktor!” said Kamilla, poking him in the ribs. “Eat something before you leave.”
Viktor looked down at her adorably grinning face, her cheeks turning pink from the warmth of the kitchen. Damn her and her unfair tactics.
“Well...”
“Lovely!” said Kamilla. “Mum, he’ll stay.”
Delighted, Adelaide went to the far end of the kitchen, checking on her food.
Viktor narrowed his eyes on Kamilla and her satisfied grin. “Do you know that it’s difficult to teleport when I’m stuffed like a fucking turkey?”
With a laugh, Kamilla swatted his butt. “Then spend the night.”
Shocked, Viktor put a hand on his butt and looked at her with wide blue eyes. “Did you just...?” He raised a warning finger. “Look here, little one. This is the butt of the King of Onyx—”
*Pah!*
Viktor jerked forward when her hand landed across his ass again. “That thick ass is mine,” Kamilla informed him with a smile and an evil glint in her eyes.
Giving her a dirty look, Viktor pushed her away with a single finger. “Get away from me. Creep.”
Watching her laugh, Viktor reached for his phone that was vibrating in his back pocket.
Kamilla leaned over and peaked. “Oh, Damon! Tell him I said hi!”
Pushing her away with a finger on the forehead, Viktor brought the phone to his ear. “Yes.”
“Viktor,” said Damon. The tension in his voice immediately got Viktor on guard. “Where are you?”
“What’s going on?”
Kamilla looked up at the dark tone.
She watched Viktor listen silently for what felt like years before he pulled his hand away from his ear and hung up the call.
“What happened?” she asked.
Putting his phone away, Viktor reached for his coat. “Ms. Drew.” Kamilla’s mom hurried over. “I’m sorry, I really can’t stay now. Something just came up.”
Adelaide looked worried. “Oh, no, is it really bad?”
He shook his head. “Don’t worry, I can sort it out.”
Kamilla blinked in puzzlement as Viktor held her chin and pressed a kiss to her lips. “Gotta go.”
“Wait!” She grabbed his arm. “What the hell is going on?”
Viktor looked away with a sigh. “If I tell you...” He looked Kamilla in the eyes. “...do you vow to stay here and let me go alone?”
“Yes, I promise.”
“You’re lying.”
“I am. Tell me anyway.” Her eyes filled with worry. “Is Damon okay? Is it Grace?”
Viktor ran his tongue over a canine as he looked at her. “It’s Rogan.”
Kamilla’s eyes went wide. “Huh? Rogan? He’s back?”
Viktor’s jaw clenched. “He’s currently surrounded by the Legion in my forest. It appears he attacked a group of travelers from a foreign Kingdom. The Legion’s asking me to come, if only for the sole reason of... giving them permission to kill him.”
