Aaron
It's not just enough that Mara and her father already made Aaron realize that he has been wasting his time with her. Every gesture of love that he has shown her has not been appreciated. Everything has been for naught. Her father had blatantly accepted the situation that his daughter was in a friendship with the Ultimate Alpha's son. He had complained but no one had listened to him. Not even his father. It was like no one wants to listen to him.
Days ago, it had been his turn to lead the attack on people in different parts of Asark. This would be a form of revolt against the Ultimate Alpha.
"It won't just solidify your position in the coming government after the end of our plan, it will allow you to have more respect within our pack," his father had advised him after he reported Lord Horgan to him.
It's obvious his father is scared of Lord Horgan. Or maybe his father had taken a compromise. Either way, he is not happy with his father's decision on the situation.
But right at the market, he is surprised that Mara is at the market. He understands that she is mostly left out of decisions that happen in her pack but this, her presence in the market spells evil.
He hadn't seen her himself. He had been in hiding expecting the guards to lower their guard. Then, it will be easier to take them out than when they are security conscious. He sent one of his betas to check the market. To analyze how things are and the position of the security.
He is shocked at the information the guard returned.
"You saw Mara? Right here in this market?" He was surprised. He left the composure he had before his guards. He wondered why she had to be there. He convinced himself that he needed to be with her as soon as possible. Then he would probably be able to convince her to leave the market. It's understandable that she doesn't know the gravity of her being at the right place at the wrong time. That might be her father's mistake, but for him, he needed to do right by her.
He has come to understand her adamant nature. He was sure it was her fault that she wasn't contented with the things he did for her. The places he took her. The walks he had with her. The respect he's had for the culture with her. He hasn't even gone too close to her all because of how much he loves her. He convinced himself it was her fault. He hasn't done anything wrong.
He entered the market hurriedly. He saw her at a distance. She didn't see him, but one of her maids did. They tried running away. He hurried to them.
"You need to leave now?" He whispered at her. His jugular vein showed their lines. His teeth clenched. He hoped his voice would relay the urgent need for her to obey him.
Even though she claimed she has other things she came to do in the market. Aaron knew she was lying. He could see through her eyes. The way she moved back and forward, in confusion. She doesn't know what place she needed to be in the market. After a while, she heads towards some Felan dressing store.
He doesn't know what's going on in her head, but he believed she thought that would allow him to give her the time she needed.
She went in. Her maids were outside. He doesn't know what she was doing inside. He looked at the maids. Their fingertips shaking and sweat drops around their necks.
After a few minutes, she came out. Eyes red. Her make up cleaned off. She continued haggling prices with the seller.
"Woman! Are you deaf? You need to leave this market."
"Why, Lord Aaron?" She sounded less rude than earlier on. But more formal than she has ever been most of the time he ever knew her.
"It's dangerous. Right now it's not safe," he tried grabbing her arm. She moved away, smiling.
"By the looks of things, there are guards from the Ultimate pack around here. Also, guards belonging to the market itself. I feel safer than I have ever been," Mara argued. As much as he tries keeping his emotions in check, her obstinacy makes it hard for him. It's unnecessary what she is doing right now.
"You are naive. There are things you don't understand. Please for once, leave!" He growled rather than begging.
"No! Thank you," she negated and walked away from him. She headed to the next store. Even though she fickled before heading for the one she wants.
Aaron already had enough of her antics. It's time for her to leave. And it's time to begin the attack. All Aaron and his group have to do is kill the guards, and whoever resists. Throw a bit of a tantrum. Destroy things. If possible set the market on fire. His mission is supposed to be one of the three biggest acts of war declaration that Lord Horgan and his group of Alphas had planned. It would be unheard of if he should fail. He would be ashamed. His father and his pack will be ridiculed.
As much as that is not the best way to go by it, he would have to resolve to the use of force. He held his hands forward to restrain her. Just as if she was expecting it, she turned immediately and push him away. It infuriates him. He walked closer to her. He grabbed her arm. She switched to a werewolf form, to punch him in his bicep. He switched immediately and stopped her punch. He punched her stomach and carried her on his shoulder.
He was about to run away when Cathulf and Dinar switched. They held his leg, restricting his movement.
"Damn you, pests," he cursed at them. He raised his right leg even though Dinar was trying her best in holding him down. He kicked her away. He stepped on Cathulf's shoulder. Crushed her shoulder bone. And kicked her jaws. She yelped and hit her head on a small table before a store, it scattered.
"Hey! Stop that," Aaron action already caught the attention of some guards. They hurried towards him. He heads towards the gate. A quick pull by the guard at the gate post brought the heavy metal gate down. It blocked Aaron from rushing outside. He could see his Betas outside. Those he was supposed to attack the market with, were on the other side of the gate.
He looked behind him. He saw the guards approaching. They were guards from the Ultimate pack. They weren't rushing. People were trying to get away from where Aaron was standing. He dropped Mara who was nearly gaining her consciousness. He realised the situation he is in. Market guards who are definitely weaker than him, are before him. He could fight through them, but the Ultimate guards would have caught up with him by then.
"Don't come closer," he warned. He held his claws at Mara's neck. His eyes showed desperation.
"I am Aaron of Hudun pack. Son of the Alpha. And there has been a misunderstanding," he explained.
"She is my Felan to be. It's only an argument between us. Look, those are people from my pack. They dare not deny me," he pointed to Farkas and others he knew were from his pack.
"Lord Aaron, you have disrupted the edict binding this market. It's a neutral place and no form of violence. We understand who you are. We know your father, but even he is not above the law of the Ultimate Alpha," the head guard informed him.
"Damn Ultimate Alpha," he cursed under his breath. Mara was the only one who heard him.
"Let me leave, and I will let this insubordination to an Alpha son slide,"
"No. No! I don't think I want to do that. How about this? You let go of that Felan. And we will hold you with lesser charges of peace disruption," the head guard advised him. Aaron wondered how he got to be in a situation where someone who was supposed to be begging for his life by now, has him under pressure.
"If she is your wife-to-be why don't you let her speak? No true Wolf will treat his Felan that way,"
"She is not his Felan-to-be," Dinar spoke from behind.
"And who is that?" The guard asked with a light tone than should be for such a tense situation.
"I am Lady Mara's maid," Dinar replied catching her breath.
"Mara?" The guard said. Aaron became alarmed at the guard's reaction.
"Yes! Daughter of Lord Horgan,"
"You were the one that Lord Leowulf asked me to keep watch of?"
Aaron's eyes widened. His heart beat faster. He scoffed.
"Now Lord Aaron, you either let her go in peace or you get the wrath of the whole force of the Ultimate Pack," the guard threatened. He switched his body. So did the other guards with him.
Aaron couldn't believe his sight. He could sense the difference in their power. The sheer number of them and the threat they possess to him, made him choke on his spit. His throat stung
"Sometimes, a warrior must know when to back down," his father's voice rang through his head, and he released Mara.
