First ultimate Alpha
Most times, brothers are not in sync with each other. There is always a sort of rivalry going on amongst them. Or that's the case with most brothers in the world. But Audolf and Adalwolf are calmly seated in the courtroom, just like they have always been. Each other knows the strength of the other. It's safe to say they never argue because they are scared of each other and not for love. But they never showed fear to each other.
Even when they have differing opinions that would require brothers to shout at themselves, they keep calm and do their best to control the situation. But right now, it is not such times that they are having differing opinions. In short, they are in sync. They are happy and it's something they must share.
"So Horgan's daughter is here," Adalwolf asked. His voice sounds like it's in a bit of slur like he just woke up. But Audolf knows otherwise. His brother's days are ending.
"Yes! She was involved in an accident with a werewolf. Son of Lord of the Huduns,"
"Is he not the one you met with her when Leowulf used his Void,"
"He is,"
"I see. So he took out his anger on her," Adalwolf concluded. He rested his back on his chair.
"Brother, Horgan will be coming,"
"He is welcomed,"
"He won't be coming with good intentions especially now that he might think we have his daughters as captive,"
"And that's exactly what we will do," Adalwolf replied.
"She is going to lose trust in us. If she rejects Leowulf, we can't force her," Audolf argued.
"I am not planning to force her. I will use her as a hostage, to weaken her father's pride," Adalwolf said. Audolf kept quiet for a moment, not knowing what to say. It's not making sense but he has to go along with the decision of his brother.
"You know, I actually thought he would propose that his daughter marry Leowulf. And when you told me who the perfect woman was, I have been expecting him to come," Adalwolf confessed.
"To him, this marriage will be political and not for the love of the children,"
"In a way, isn't that what it is to us too?" Adalwolf asked.
"But finally, he will be coming," he smiled again
"At least, don't let him meet you in this position. Why don't you strengthen yourself? Be in preparation for whenever he comes,"
"Aye! Aye! Little brother," Adalwolf said. Audolf should let go of a smile at that remark, but it will reduce the importance that is supposed to be attached to what he told his brother. He kept his long face. There are lots of things he wanted to say, but he needed Adalwolf to catch his breath from the conversation they just concluded.
He wanted to talk about the fears Leowulf has been having. Yesterday, Leowulf had asked him if he was going to end up in the same position as his father. He had not wanted to discourage Leowulf, but he needed to tell him the truth. He said yes. Audolf wants to explore the outside world. So in all honesty, he hopes after his brother's death, he will be able to convince Leowulf to open the barrier to the human realm. And then, he alone would go. Then he will determine if it's habitable or not. And just that is what he has been pleading to his brother.
Another thing is the issue of the other Alphas who have been deflecting. They haven't been coming to meetings. Some stopped coming from the moment Horgan stopped coming. Some adopted his ideologies later on. And now they have deflected. Even though he believes that there is no reason why his brother shouldn't allow them to check out the human realm, he just couldn't rebel.
"Brother," Audolf looked up.
"Hmm?" Adalwolf replied.
"I honestly have been having these thoughts. I can't get my hands around it, but I believe Horgan has something to do with these rogue werewolves,"
"Calm down Audolf. I trust Horgan, he wouldn't do such,"
"Yes! I am trying to believe that too. Who then do you think the culprits could be?"
"It could be any of these Alphas. There isn't any particular person that can't be involved with them," Adalwolf replied lightly.
"They are revolutionaries. Aggressive ones. Why don't you use the power of the barrier to create a general void that will expose whoever did it,"
"And so I could die the next day without my son being fully prepared?"
"It's not that brother, it's just that…" he went mute. Some things might be just too heavy to say.
"It's that after you die before Leowulf will get the fear of everything and everyone in Asark, rebels will come out and…"
"You are no fun," Adalwolf smiled. It was only then that Audolf realized what had happened to him. He had been under the influence of the Void. He had been made to say what he wouldn't want to.
"Can you just stop that?" Audolf begged his brother. His brother never takes anything seriously. It's all about the fun to him. He doesn't blame him. Someone that can barely walk outside and see nature, has to have fun in his own way.
Audolf is bored and needed to leave. Most of the time, he has been making security decisions for Asark, by himself, so he should continue, there is no need for him to involve his brother.
"Well, Brother, I have to leave," Audolf announced.
"Shouldn't you stay longer? I can use your company,"
"Only for a few minutes, I have things to do," he lied and guilt filled his heart.
_---------------::---------------------------
"It's only normal that I am alone in this situation," Adalwolf mourned. His eyes are deep red. He is alone in the room designed for Ultimate Alphas to stay near the end of their days. His loneliness isn't the kind where no one loves him, nor that there isn't anyone that wants to be with him.
But it's the law of the land. And Ultimate Alpha needs to practice being lonely towards the end of his days. So his awakening to join the next Alpha will be faster.
Adalwolf stood up from his bed and went to where his food is being kept. He carried his food and went back to his seat. He wanted to eat. He hasn't had good lunch in a long while, he had been requesting for junks. Even though the maids could have reported to the Luna who wouldn't allow him to eat such, she respected him. And kept bringing in junks.
"This vegetable with…" a sharp migraine hit him. Not just any migraine. It's not the kind of migraine that comes and goes or that reduces with time. It's a continuous one that hit him. It's kept on ringing like a bell. He knew what it was. He dropped his food and lay on his bed. His eyes closed, and he began practicing his breathing.
"Adalwolf, welcome," a voice welcomed him. It's a familiar voice. Even though he hadn't been existing when the person who owns the voice was alive.
"Dear son, welcome," Adalwolf's father replied. His father looked the same as the day he was about to get married. The day he was to become the Ultimate Alpha. He doesn't know how his father was at that time, but when he grew up to know his father, his father wasn't as feeble as he is now. Even when his father died, his father wasn't as feeble as he is now.
"Oh! Lords… you have summoned me,"
"Adalwolf, we gave you the Void because we realise you were a vigilant one as a kid. Even in your youthful days, you were an active one. So why now are you watching the village get ruined under you," his grandfather said.
"Ruined? Oh! The rogue werewolves, my brother is trying his best to curb them," he said energetically.
"It's not them, it's about something happening right under your nose,"
"Lords, I haven't transcended yet. I do not know what you speak of, and I don't think I allow my people to commit crimes that will ruin the village," Adalwolf said. He doesn't know what has happened but he knows he is going to get the answer. The former Ultimate Alphas don't speak in Parables.
In this astral realm that he is in, 15 Ultimate Alphas are existing. They don't die off. Unlike other Alphas who live long and die, without their soul remaining. The Ultimate Alphas live on. Their consciousness remains as long as the wall remains. They are the ones who pick the next Alpha and pass the void onto him.
They do not know of the next Ultimate Alpha's future, but they pick the most diligent and dextrous child of the Ultimate Alpha's family. And he was chosen by them. When his father died, he had gained power through a gory process that made him cry for days. And in such a process too, he will pass his power on to his son.
"Please tell me, what is it that has happened," he begged.
"Today, a mistake that was made thousands of years ago, that created the abomination that we are, was about to be made," the first Ultimate Alpha ever said. He is usually the most silent. He hates their existence. In his actions and wordings, Adalwolf knows the man has knowledge of things he wants to forget. He is the first Ultimate Alpha and one of those who survived the war of separation with the humans. It's either he missed being with humans or he hates that he had to leave that works for mistakes werewolves must have done.
"What mistake?" Adalwolf asked. Other Alphas have their head bow. They weren't speaking.
"A dying werewolf was about to pass its will on to a fox in this Asark,"
"Eh?" Adalwolf was surprised.
"How is that my fault? I am not all-knowing like the goddess," he blurted out in his defense.
"And she is the one who prevented it,"
"Well, it's her job," he murmured to himself.
"She has sworn not to interfere in the interaction of we werewolves till we die out, but a monster was nearly created today,"
"How did it happen?"
"Your son caused it. He killed a werewolf that caught him having pre-marital sex with a woman. He killed both of them," The First Alpha growled at Adalwolf.
