Chapter 50
He arrived in Hawaii late afternoon, lodging himself in one of the five star hotels in the area. Before lodging he had of course asked his hotel if anyone with the name Cara Devine had lodged in the hotel but they didn’t have that name under their records.
It was going to be a futile waste of time if he decided to continue with that logic, but Cara’s number still remained unreachable.
After settling in his hotel, he had another idea and sent her a text. The text contained a location and a time. He was going to be there and he hoped she showed up when she saw the message too. If she didn’t show up, he would try again and keep trying till she did.
He told himself as he looked at himself in the mirror as he buttoned up his shirt.
While he had reconciled with his brother, Nicholas had a feeling that they’d soon fall out if his brother discovers just who bought the Devine company. He had not revealed the truth to him and he certainly wasn’t ready to just yet. He’d wait a while, let Cara take charge of things and then he’d consider telling his brother himself. That was how he planned to handle it.
Whether or not it was going to go well, he had no idea.
Cara stared at her phone for the longest time. The text from Nicholas was barely two sentences stringed together but she had been staring at it for the past five minutes.
Nicholas was in Hawaii. Because of her! For her! She couldn’t believe it.
Was it some silly joke, was it real? She didn’t know but she was going to find out herself. She was going to see him, the thought of seeing him alone brought tears to her eyes. Oh how she had dreamed of the moment she was going to see him again.
How she had gone to bed with nothing but the memory of him to get her through the night and now he was here to see her.
Her heart was practically leaping for joy.
As the time for their meeting drew nearer, Cara donned the prettiest dress she owned, she managed to comb her hair thoroughly and put it in a braid. She took with her a shawl, like she had been doing every day for the past few weeks. It was now more of an habit to have it draped over her shoulder or cover her head more than necessity. Since she had been in Hawaii no one had recognized her or particularly cared who she was, everyone just went around doing their own thing.
She arrived at the location early, too early, and just like Nicholas had said, there was an empty table reserved for her.
She looked around nervously, she could barely contain her excitement and so she had left earlier than she planned to, but it didn’t really matter anymore anyways. She was there already and she was waiting.
She was still looking around fervently when someone tapped her from behind, she turned startled and found Nicholas standing in front of her.
A small sob escaped her lips as she stood up and hugged him. He hugged her bag. Tightly, fiercely, with so much force that it threatened to snatch the air from her lungs.
“I missed you so so much!”
Nicholas said as he broke away, touching her face intimately. His fingers gently wiped her tears. Cara nodded eagerly.
“I missed you too!”
She said as she hugged him again, less tighter this time but longer.
After a while they both sat down, Cara hastily wiped the tears from her eyes, chuckling nervously.
“You know I always imagined what it would be like seeing you after all this while.”
“I just didn’t imagine myself crying this damned much.”
She said and Nicholas chuckled.
“I literally dreamt of this moment. All through my flight here, all I could think of was you. Seeing you, touching you, holding you..”
He said and Cara lowered her gaze, her body heating up at his words.
“Nicholas you didn’t have to come here. Why did you?”
She asked and he shrugged.
“Why not? You wouldn’t come home and I couldn’t stand being away from you, I just thought I’d come meet you here then. This way I wouldn’t have to worry about you so much.”
He said as he caressed her fingers softly.
Cara smiled.
“Oh Nick. How’s everything back home?”
She asked and Nicholas shrugged.
“I don’t know and I don’t particularly care Cara. All I care about is you.”
Her cheeks heated.
She looked out and looked around the restaurant.
“Wanna take a walk on the beach?”
She asked and he nodded.
Few minutes later they were on the beach.
They walked silently at first, hand in hand, staring at the ocean. But Nicholas couldn’t take it anymore.
“I have to tell you something Cara.”
Cara shook her head.
“I know.”
She said with a small sign.
“I was the one who called you that day. You told me.”
She said and he shrugged.
“I knew. I knew it was you. You didn’t let me finish Cara. I still have so much to say.”
He said as he held her hand and looked into her eyes.
“All my life, I’ve been incomplete. Searching, floating, looking for that one piece that completes everything. And then I found you and you turned my life upside down.”
“You were everything I wanted and needed and still you were so far away from my reach.”
“I want you to know that I don’t regret anything Cara. I don’t regret anything we did and you shouldn’t too. It isn’t a crime to fall in love, especially with such a wonderful woman like you.”
Cara blinked back hard tears.
“I love you Cara. And I swear I will always choose you. You are everything to me. You are the most important piece of my life and I want you in my life.”
“I love you Nicholas. I always did.”
Cara answered softly.
“Ever since that night at the convention in New Jersey, when I woke up to you next to me, I just couldn’t imagine losing you. I really couldn’t. I love you so much that it physically hurts Nicholas.”
“And I choose you too. I will always choose you.”
Cara said firmly and Nicholas grabbed her waist and pulled her to him, kissing her deeply and intimately.
When they broke away there was a deep smile on Cara’s face. Nicholas’s eyes remained transfixed on hers.
“So what’s next?”
Cara asked and Nicholas shrugged.
“I came here for you. I guess we could enjoy a little of Hawaii before I whisk you away back home.”
Cara chuckled.
“What do you have in mind? There’s so many things to do here.”
She said as she winked suggestively and Nicholas smirked.
“Oh I have just the perfect thing.”
