Disappeared
Chapter 30
Martina
I spent the whole day combing through my office, looking for the envelope containing the evidence on Paula. But like magic, I can't find it anywhere. It is as if it's disappeared. I am completely lost. Who could have had access to my office? Only me and my secretary have the keys to my office. I call hi and ask hom questions
"If you don't tell me immediately who came in here or why you took that envelope, trust me, you'll have to deal with me." I say in a threatening tone.
"I swear to you on what is dearest to me Madam, that I have not touched a document in your office, apart from those which you have entrusted to me to process. No one either, apart from you and I, had access to your office." M He said on the verge of tears.
"Mr. Malang, if you don't tell me the truth, I'm going to put you in prison and I'll make sure you rot there. Do you take me for a madman or what? keys to this office, how could this envelope have disappeared, if neither you nor I took it?" I replied, raising my voice.
"Please Ma'am, I didn't take it, believe me. If I had seen anyone else break in here, I would have told you." He said getting down on his knees, still begging me.
"I have a family to feed Madame, I would never take such a risk, believe me Madame."
Faced with his sincere air that inspires pity, I have no choice but to ask him to get up.
"Woe to you if I ever find out you've been involved even a little bit! Now get out!" I ordered angrily.
I do not understand anything anymore. By viewing the surveillance video from Friday to Monday, I find nothing abnormal. No one entered my office during my absence. Yet I remember filing the envelope before going home that day. And even if I had taken it with me, I would have found it in my purse, which has remained untouched since Friday. This situation pisses me off so much. I'm no longer safe in my office and I don't like that at all.
I had a bad day and my mood was very bad. I know Larry must be picking up on my bad temper these past few days, even though he's been trying so hard not to show it to me. The next day in the afternoon, I receive my private detective and he informs me about the course of the investigation which he initiated since yesterday.
"Based on the interrogations, I was able to move forward a lot and reduce the number of suspects." He said to me at the start.
M"Ah yes?" I asked while waiting for him to elaborate.
"Yes. By questioning the guard and looking at the CCTV, I was able to find out about those who came here to the company during the weekend." He explains to me calmly.
"And who is it?" I hastened to inquire.
"There are three of them. Your secretary, the company accountant and the Director of Human Resources." He answers with the same calm.
"And based on your interrogation, what did you conclude?" I asked with great interest.
"I haven't concluded anything yet, everyone had valid reasons to come here on the weekend, but everything is converging to put your secretary in the spotlight." He explains to me.
"But he denies everything, and he seems sincere to me. I would be surprised if he was the one who committed the crime." I replied.
"Yes, he seems sincere to me too. He could have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, there are no leads to be overlooked. Appearance can sometimes be very deceiving." He said staring at a point behind me.
"Never mind, I'll dig deeper and get access to their file to get a closer look." He concludes before leaving.
When the detective leaves, I stay to think about who could have taken the envelope. Could Paula have succeeded in infiltrating my Society? She's the only one who has an interest in me not having this evidence. But how did she manage to do it? I think I underestimated her. I come home tonight, like the night before, in a bad mood. After serving food to my babies, I prepare the table for Larry and I enter the room. Just like yesterday, I'm not eating with Larry. He comes in finding me lying on my stomach, staring into space.
"Good evening Mia Amore." He said giving me a soft kiss.
"Good evening!" I replied dryly.
He enters the toilet. He washes his face and comes back to find me sleeping in the same position.
"So bae, how was your day?" he asks, coming to sit next to me.
"Good!" I replied, still lying down, without glancing at him.
"Would you mind coming downstairs, we're going to dinner?" he asks in a tender voice.
"Sorry Larry, I'm not hungry." I started with the same disinterest.
"So, would you mind telling me what's going on?" He asks, straightening up.
"But nothing at all." I say calmly.
"Don't answer me anything, when I've seen your terrible bad mood since the Saturday we came back from the evening. Yes it's true, your sister humiliated you, so what? Has that diminished anything in You? You're going to stay in this state until when? If at least you shared with me what you feel a little?" He rattled annoyed.
"What do you expect from me? To tell you about my life as you please?" I retorted, getting up to sit down.
"Your life you say? I thought we were more than one life!" He said annoyed.
"Paula it's my business, you don't interfere ok!" I told him in a harsh tone.
"How long are you going to keep living to the rhythm of this damn revenge?" He said angrily. Know that what you call your business becomes mine insofar as it affects you and in this case it necessarily affects me. Why don't you just let go of that gray area of your past and try to move forward with the future?" he asks in an annoyed pleading tone.
"It's easy for you to just ask me, as if in a snap of your fingers, it will all be erased from my memory." I replied raising my voice.
"You haven't been through what I've been through, you haven't felt that monstrous pain of wanting to end life after being let down by those who are dear to us. And then, you don't didn't lose your mother in your arms, watching her die helplessly, just because of people's wickedness." I added, screaming in rage.
"Perhaps I cannot understand you as you would like. Of course, I cannot take away from you, even if it is my dearest wish, this enormous weight that you have been carrying for years..." Said he pauses to fight back his tears, before continuing with a look full of tenderness and affection.
"But I do know one thing, you are worth much more than this damned revenge that only ruins your existence my love. Don't let it consume you and ruin our life Amore mia."
I remain silent for a moment as our gazes are locked with each other, then I say firmly while looking him straight in the eye.
"You knew me with this thirst for revenge and you'll get used to it. It's easy to ask me to forget, since it's not you who suffered everything."
Larry looks at me and I see disappointment in his eyes. He gets up and leaves the room while leaving me in all my states. I curse between my teeth and throw a pillow on the door.
Paula
Martina will hear from me soon. She thought she was coming back into my life and ruining it like she did in the past. But I won't sit idly by watching her do what she wants with my life. She snatched my belongings from me and fired from the company like a filth, not to mention the humiliation she inflicted on me in front of my former employees. For these reasons, she will always have me on her back. Among my night customers, I met a man who happens to be one of his employees. He became a regular customer of mine and I had the idea of using him to tail Martina. So, I had the ingenuity to use his services to learn about everything that happens in his company and inform me about the smallest facts and gestures of Martina. When I asked him, he flatly refused. But I already had it in my hands because I had evidence of our sexual intercourse that compromised it. So I threatened to show them to his wife and post them on social media if he didn't do what I asked. Being a loving husband, a family man and a respectable man in society, this blow would undermine his honor and dignity. He had no choice but to comply. It is thanks to him that I was able to hear about the wedding where I humiliated Martina. I had put a whole scheme to be invited to this wedding, because I had prepared my number well in advance. Martina saw nothing but fire. I laughed seeing his face and his embarrassment in front of all the guests. When he told me about the envelope that contained evidence against me, I asked him to arrange to take it. He managed to do it without too much difficulty. Oh Martina! So that's it, you were planning to make me sink once more! This time, I am well prepared and ready to fight with you. You got me the first time because I didn't know you existed, but now I'm well armed, ready to go on the offensive. We'll see which of us is more tenacious. I took the envelope containing the proves and I kept it in a safe place, where no one will venture to search.
