Going, going, gone?
A week passes by and the crew becomes animated as they approach land. The men are anxious to get on shore and imbibe their needs in whores and drink, as the Captain and the sisters refuse alcohol on board unless it is used for medicinal purposes. Word has spread that the Captain is allowing Draven to leave the ship before his year agreement is completed. Draven sits in his room awaiting word from the Captain on what his punishment will be for breaking contract early. He can see the men getting ready to leave the ship, and as the ship makes its final attachment to the pier, Draven watches the men lower the gangplank and leave the ship in droves.
On the Captain's deck, the Captain, Adnama, and Violet watch as the men depart the ship. When only the skeleton crew remains, the sisters form a triangle and hold hands. Focusing on Draven's room they hum softly and are transported to his door. The Captain holds a packet of papers in her hands as they separate and the other two stand behind her as she knocks on the door before entering. Violet and Adnama follow closely behind her, making it appear as if all three of them were trying to enter at the same time. Silently the Captain holds out the packet to Draven. As he takes the papers he sees that it is his contract with revisions added in the margins. It has been scratched out and there are two different writing styles. The main revision in the contract reads:
"Should any crew member wish to leave before contract is completed, the crew member will leave the ship with the accompaniment of another fellow crewmate and/or the Captain."
The Captain then speaks up after she sees Draven finish reading the new contract, "You can leave after the evening meal to give your accompanying crewmate time to pack a few things that will be needed while the two of you are journeying."
"I am ready to leave now. Since you've given me my dismissal papers and didn't specify when I am to leave after being dismissed that means I can leave now and not wait. If the guy you chose to come with me isn't on the pier by the time I get up there then he'll be left behind. I've got to leave quickly in order to reach my destination." He stands up and lifts his pack, staring at her and seeing that she has become angry at him he merely lifts an eyebrow.
"Very well. He'll be waiting for you on the dock." She then turned around and stalks out of the room, Adnama following closely behind. Violet goes to the door and frowns thoughtfully before she turns and looks at Draven.
"You know, sometimes it appears that my sister gets tired of being the Captain. It's like having control of so many men and being the final authority of so much wears at her and she acts like she doesn't want to be the Captain of the Black Calypso anymore." Having stated her observation she then leaves and closes the door quietly.
Draven merely shrugs as he picks up his pack, taking nothing with him but some clothes, his swords, his book of blank pages and his pencil. He climbs the stairs in the ship, the sound of his footsteps hollow in the hallways that lead up to the dock. He hears no activity from the kitchen and remembers how Twise stated that he couldn't wait to land so that he could restock on his supplies, so instead of going to visit the man he continues walking. The bright sun momentarily catches him off guard as he opens the door to the deck, raising one hand to shield his eyes while he blinks rapidly, and then smiles softly in a half-smile of anticipation before leaving the ship.
