Disaster Averted

A light rain began to fall to the earth as he walked towards Sarah and removed the top pole from the spit. The rain caused the flames to sputter and die out as he removes Sarah and unbinds her body from the pole. He can feel the beginning stages of a cold as he sees a large head wound bleeding from the side of her head and into her hair. He taps the side of her face with the palm of his hand as he leans over her. "Wake up Sarah, come on, wake up sweetheart."
A strange female comes out of the woods and shuffles towards him, kneeling beside him and Sarah. "She yours young man?"
Draven looks up at the woman and frowns before nodding reluctantly. "Yes, she is, and I can't figure out why she won't wake up."
The woman glances up at him as she takes a place at Sarah's side. "Mermaids mate once a lifetime, they bond with their Mate in all ways, even mentally. If she's yours, then you should be bonded mentally, and if you are then you can slip into her mind and urge her to return to the world. Of course, if she doesn't WANT to return, then she'll die from her wounds."
Draven looked down at Sarah and saw that the side of her body that had been left closest to the flames had been badly burned. He frowns as he feels the gentle hands of the old woman against his elbow, moving him towards Sarah's head. He barely registers her words as he kneels at her head. His hands are placed at the sides of her head, so that his fingers are lightly touching her temples.
"Just open your mind to hers young man, look for her and you'll find her there."
He felt his eyes closing as he slowly opened the door between him and Sarah, feeling her presence just on the opposite side of the door he had closed just the night before. He stands before a wooden door, and unlocks the knob before stepping inside.
Once inside he sees a white hallway with two doors. One appears to look just like the door that led to Sarah's chamber on the ship, the other door leading back outside to his own mind. Thinking that she might be hiding out in a room of her mind that reminded her of her room on the ship, he went towards the door and opened it. Inside he sees the middle sister sitting with a familiar book on the table in front of her.
"This is the only place in which we can meet without having to be physically together young Draven. My sister reached out for us to say her goodbyes, but I don't think we'll be separating from each other in the land of the living anytime soon. Not if you play your cards right. Come have a seat." She shifts as she motions towards the chair that sat opposite of her own at the table.
Draven walked into the room, frowning slightly as he took a seat. "I thought I would be coming here to talk to Sarah and convince her to come back to us. Why am I talking to you?"
Violet laughed softly and pushed the book towards him. "You left this behind, and I looked through it. From what I have seen, you care a great deal for my elder sister. I think that this will help you in your effort to get her to return to you. Also, refrain from hiding yourself from her, that was why she left in the first place. She thought you were angry at her for the actions of others and decided to cut yourself from her instead of talking to her. Talking is important for every relationship. Give and take. Nothing is ever fifty-fifty, it's give and take. If you have doubts, talk to her, understand that whatever she says, she says with meaning, even if it doesn't make sense. Never doubt her, she'll not lead you astray. She cares for you Draven La'Fon, a great deal. Be good to her and you'll never have to worry about the validity or length of her love for you."
Draven nodded and picked up his book before standing to his feet and exiting the room, sensing that Violet had said all that she was going to say to him. Walking out he looked around and saw Sarah standing against the wall by the door that connected the two of them together. She kept her head bowed low, her golden hair covering her face and hiding it from view. He walked over towards her and joined her leaning against the wall.
He takes his book and opens it to the first page, lifting it to show her the drawing that he had committed to paper. "You know, I think I fell in love when I saw you standing on the deck when I first came on board. You were so strong and independent, not needing anyone for anything and yet when I got injured you showed a caring nature that I wouldn't have associated with someone as strong as you." He turned the pages and kept showing her pictures that he had drawn of her and the men on the ship.
"You're so important to everyone on board, your sisters, your crew, they need you."
She turned her face to the side and snorted under her breath. He moved to stand in front of her and placed the tips of his fingers under her chin, gently lifting her face so that he could look into her eyes. "You're important to me too. I need you to come back to me. I am so sorry that I didn't talk to you, I should have, and I see that now. Please, come back to me. I need you. I… I love you Sarah. Please, please come back to me and I promise that I will never shut you out ever again." He leaned close and gently grazed his lips over her own, cupping her face with the palm of his hand.
Abruptly he gasped and found himself in his own mind, the door between his mind and Sarah wide open and he can feel her mind returning to consciousness as her tail separates into two legs and her skin begins healing from the burns. He watches as her head wound closes up and the blood washes off her skin in the rain that now falls heavily to the ground. The old woman is still kneeling beside her, only now she leans back and smiles softly.
"I see you convinced her to return to us. That's good. I would have hated to have to kill my son-in-law for being stupid."
Draven looks up in shock and takes a really good look at the old woman who sits to his side. He sees that her hair is a light blue color and bright green eyes are twinkling from her face. Her hair, which is flowing wildly from her head, seems to be moving lazily around her head. She rises to her feet and touches the side of his face. His throat, which had felt scratchy and sore, was immensely better, and he could even breathe out of his nose once more instead of sniffing like a child. His body warmed up and the water seemed to be repelled from his body, which was dry from the rain that had soaked into his clothing. Sarah opens her eyes briefly and looks up at him as he scoops her into his arms and carries her to a tent and lays her down on a pallet of furs, covering her body with one before laying down and going to sleep.
