Chapter 16

-Good morning everyone - said Zoe entering the dormitories waking all of us up - I want you all at the firing ring in ten minutes

We all nodded and quickly got out of our beds, some of us went to the bathroom to brush our theet, like Aldahir and I, some of the girls quickly showered and we all walked to the firing ring.

We had been at the police academy for two weeks, which had been honestly nice and quite interesting, Aldahir was beyond himself with happiness, he had been missing being with humans and even though he had become a real part of the pack back in Loup Ville, he wasn't born to be one of us, he himself had said more than once and seeing him smile, making friends with some of the other trainees and be happy without me having to be with him, was one of the best things I had experienced.

Me on the other hand, I can't say I was having a bad time, I had gotten far more comfortable being around people than I was before, the whole thing was still overstimulating as hell and more often than not I woke up and went back to bed with terrible anxiety, but surprisingly I had become kind of close to some of the trainees, they understood I wasn't a fan of human interaction, apparently neither were they so we stuck together one day and things just happened.

-Hello... My little wolf - said Aldahir putting his arms over my shoulders as we walked to the firing ring

-Hi - I said smiling - I'm glad no one here has questioned your nickname for me - I added laughing

-Have you heard some of the other nicknames couples use? - Asked Aldahir pretending to be offended by my comment

-Yours is not that bad - said Jason, one of the trainees that had become friends with Aldahir appearing in between us

-I agree, don't you call your boyfriend bunnie or something like that? - Asked Aldahir

-It's actually little bat and there's a reason for it, that poor guy is as blind as a bat - said Jason trying to defend himself

-It would make sense, except bats aren't actually blind, people just think they are - I said to Jason

-No wonder why you're at the top of the class - said Jason annoyed

-You're not getting jealous of a girl who's half your size, are you? - Asked Jeanne, Jason's younger sister showing up next to him

Jason rolled his eyes and pushed her away, we laughed together and kept walking to the firing ring.

Jason and Jeanne were some of the funniest people I had met, the were both black and came from a family who had always been part of the Canadian police force so they decided to do the same.

Jason had grown closer to Aldahir, they started talking non stop after our first day of training, it basically began as Jason going at Aldahir asking over and over again on what he was juicing on or what kind of exercise routine he had been doing, apparently that's how you're supposed to make friends because they became something of a duo since then, and they were both scarily similar, both extroverted and kind of loud.

Jeanne on the other hand could not be more different from her brother, she was actually like me, far more quiet and kind of shy. She approached me to make fun of her overly confident older brother after I beat him at one of our training "games", she was really nice, I liked her, apparently I liked her and without even talking that much we became kind if close, to the nightmare of Jason and Aldahir.

The training that day consisted of firing practice, it wasn't our first time doing it, but it still made me nervous, I never had a good relationship with guns for reasons, such as the insane amount of time I had been chased by hunters with them, actually shot at by them and of course I hated the crazy loud noise they made. Because of the later I had to wear my earplugs with the noise cancelling ear muffs we all had to use.

The firing practice was really easy for Aldahir and I, we kind of had an unfair advantage because we had perfect vision, actually our vision was about four times better than the so call twenty-twenty human vision, which made it really easy for us to lock the target we needed to shot and, of course, our reflexes and general physical hability allowed us to shot with a pretty decent accuracy.

Aldahir really enjoyed shooting, he kept saying it made him feel powerful has a human, instead of having to rely on his werewolf side to be powerful. I found his explanation confusing but I did my best to understand, at the end of the day he still felt like he wasn't even supposed to be a werewolf in the first place and and since he sometimes missed being a human, I guessed feeling that kind of human power made him feel complete again and less like an outcast or a third class citizen.

-That was fun, especially the part were you killed my brother - said Jeanne to me after we had run a simulation and I shot Jason

-It's not my fault he ignored the orders and came out of straight in front of me - I said defending my actions

Jason gave me a death glance while Aldahir and Jeanne laughed.

-Today was... Fun, I really liked the firing simulation - I said to Aldahir on our way back to the academy after our shift at the restaurant

-It was - he said smiling

I smiled at him and kissed him when we were waiting on a red light to cross the street. The second the light turned green and we started walking I froze in a combination of fear, anger and confusion when I smelled what I swore was my mother's flowery perfume, immediately I grabbed onto Aldahir's arm making him stop suddenly and he looked at me confused.

-What happened? - He asked

-I just smelled my mother's perfume

-What? There's no way, you might be paranoid Dhalia

-No, I swear...

I left my words hanging in the air when I recognized my mother and my father walking about three blocks away from us, I froze on my place which made Aldahir look in the same direction as I did and he reached before I did grabbing me by the waist and making me turn around to then start walking quickly.

-Please tell me you didn't put on your perfume today - whispered Aldahir in my ear

-I did, but I'm sure is impossible to smell it under layers of sweat, oil and the wine a kid spilled on me earlier - I whispered back at him

-Let's hope that's the case, we have to get back to the academy

-No, if my parents are looking for us, and possibly following us, all they would have to do is walk into the academy and ask to see their daughter - I said feeling my head spinning

-So what should we do then?

-You have your credit car with you right? - I asked

-Yes

-Let's for to a hotel, put the room under another name and hope they didn't actually see us

Aldahir nodded, approving of my plan and we walked into the same hotel were we had stayed before and Aldahir put the room under the name Aldahir Wittner.

-Okay, how could they find us? Did you say anything to anyone back at Loup Ville? - Asked Aldahir once we were in the room.

-No, I didn't tell a soul, but I guess they could have gotten some information from Alisha, she knows me really well...

-And we didn't even bother to change our names - said Aldahir cutting me off

-No, we didn't, we could do it, though it would be difficult and confusing because we just signed everything at the police academy with our real names... By the way, were did you get the last name Wittner from?

-It was my mother's last name

-I like it - I said not knowing how to react to that information

-We can legally change our names - said Aldahir suddenly

-How?

-It we get married... It's not forced on the woman to take the last name of the husband, but if you do I could give you the last name Wittner and take it myself, we wouldn't be ourselves anymore

-Are you really suggesting we get married just so we could change our names?

-That's one reason, sure, but... I really do want to marry you Dhalia, I love you and not only did I make the decision to risk everything and run away with you, I did it because I want to spend the rest of my life with you - said Aldahir sitting in front of me and grabbing my hands - I may not have been planning to propose you yet but I don't mind doing it sooner

-You mean it, don't you? - I asked on the verge or tears

-Yes, I do mean it and... Well I don't have a ring but, I can give you this - he said taking off the silver chain with a cross on it that he always wore and handing it to me

-You're really giving me this? - I asked as a started crying

-Because I love you and I want you to have something to remind you of that, besides proposing without giving something to the bride is quite pathetic

I laughed at what he said and went to grab the chain, but he stopped me and got down on one knee in front of me, which made me start bawling my eyes out.

-Dhalia... I won't say your last name because I know you don't exactly love it - he said laughing, which I copied - I love you and I want nothing but the chance to spend our lives together... Will you marry me?

I couldn't even get the words out of my mouth, I simply nodded and jumped to Aldahir kissing him as soon as he got back in his feet, he put the chain on my neck and we decided to worry about what we would do for the wedding the next day.
