Chapter 33
Immediately all the warriors ran over to the perimeter to check up what was happening, Aldahir, either out of habit or because or our police training kicked in, he ran towards the entrance as well. To our horror, and sadly not surprise at all, we saw a few hunters, my mother told two of our warriors to go up to them and make sure they would leave, but before they could even react they were hit by a dart each, which made them fall to the ground immediately.
Aldahir reacted before I could and he ran up to them to take the dart off their bodies and, hopefully, stop all the liquid from getting into their system, he then looked at me confused, concerned and angry so I turned to my mother trying to silently tell her she had to make a decision right there and then, she – somehow – seemed to understand me and started barking orders, starting with sending all the kinds and some of the younger members of the pure blooded families to find a hiding place, they all ran away, frantically looking for a safe place and then my mother simply said.
-Don't let them walk in
Immediately all the warriors transformed into wolves and walked outside of Loup Ville trying to figure out what was really happening and what kind of tactics they may need to use to defend all of us, Aldahir stayed behind standing right next to me looking around all worried, suddenly we heard someone yelling, clearly a human and a few seconds later we heard a few gunshots, that startled most of the members of the pack who were standing there and seemed to be the opportunity the group if hunters were waiting
for, or even created for themselves.
In a matter of seconds the entire group of hunters showed up out of nowhere, in all directions surrounding us, they first tried to keep us there by pointing the weapons they had loaded with those wolfsbane darts, but, at least Aldahir and I decided not to go down that easily and transformed into wolves to jump at the hunters who were closest to us.
I jumped at a woman with dark skin who was holding onto a small gun as if her life depended on it, which to be fair at that moment it did, but I wasn't really into killing just for the thrill of it so I pinned her to the ground, got the gun off her hand and threw it away to then bite her, right in her neck, which made her scream out in pain.
Once I was done with her I turned around not sure what I would see and sadly I found one of the most devastating scenarios I could have ever imagined.
There were a lot of hunters going around looking for any of us to shoot at with either darts so they could then take out their knife and kill us or with bullets, some of them were using big weapons with were able to blow off about half our heads, which of course killed us immediately.
Everything around me was chaos, pretty much every single member of the pack had transformed into a wolf and we're running around, escaping bullets and darts and jumping on any hunter they had the chance to.
I saw Alisha jump onto one man with dark hair who after getting the hand with which he was holding his gun bitten off managed to pull out a knife and stab her on her legs and chest, she whimpered in pain but pinned the man back to the floor and mauled him until he died, I tried going after her but she ran off to jump onto someone else, defending Daiki.
I saw Charles being chased by two hunters and get cornered between two of the cabins, but he somehow managed to avoid some of the bullets and jump at the hunter that was near him, when he was attacking that hunter the other one came from behind and shot him twice in the stomach, he whimpered and howled in pain desperately calling for help from anyone who might listen to him and right before the hunter could stab him and kill him my father jumped in and bit the hunter.
I stood there, simply frozen and in shock in the middle of the chaos for what seemed like hours, I watched many hunters getting killed, other get bitten and I also watched some members of the pack being killed... When I saw a white wolf running by I panicked thinking it was Aldahir and something was about to happen to him, so I snapped out of the shock and went after the hunter who was chasing the white wolf.
I jumped at the hunter - who was actually pretty young - from behind which made her lose her gun but she desperately tried to get off from underneath me and reach it, when she realized she couldn't she reached for a knife and started slicing the air with it, she ended up cutting my face a few times, which pissed me of so I bet the knife, ignoring that it nearly cut off my tong and tossed it away, then I bit her in the shoulder, which made her scream and then she started crying.
I walked over to the gun, grabbing it with my mouth and facing her as the blood dripped from my mouth to the gun and then to the floor, she seemed terrified, which made me feel bad over what I had done for a second but when I remembered she was about to get to Aldahir my sympathy ended.
I turned around looking for Aldahir and instead found Arden covered from head to toe in blood and shivering.
-Hey, are you okay? - I asked after transforming back into a human and helping her to get behind one of the cabins
-That bastard got me - she answered after transforming back into a human and immediately collapsed into my arms
I held her realizing her stomach was completely cut open and she was bleeding out, she was trying her best not to fall unconscious and was very clearly not healing, she started breathing more and more weak every with every second that went by, she suddenly held to my hand with extreme strength and a few seconds later her grip was gone and her whole body collapsed.
I stayed there staring at her, knowing she had just died in my arms but I didn't know what to do, I felt sad, more like destroyed, it was almost as if I were loosing my brother all
over again.
I stayed with her for what must have been at least thirty minutes, until I was taken away by Aldahir, who showed up incredibly worried about me, he held back tears when he saw me holding Arden and he helped me get up to then hand me a big sweater.
-I thought you were her... I thought you were Arden, I ran after a hunter and nearly killed her because I thought I was defending you
-I'm sorry Dhalia... But I'm okay, I swear, I've been injured far worse than this - he explained trying to comfort me
I nodded and hugged him to then allow him to guide me back to the center of our town, were everyone was reunited in a circle contemplating something.
The whole fight had obviously ended and we seemed to have won, though it came with a pretty high price because unfortunately the lack of training from the members of the pure blooded families ended up being painfully obvious and it cost the life of many of them, including Charles and Arden.
When I finally arrived to the circle of people I fell to my knees realizing they were watching over my mother, who was laying on the floor with my father holding her while she was bleeding out, her stomach was cut open - just like Arden - but she was also missing par of her head.
I started sobbing and crawled until I ended up next to my father, who hugged me and I looked over at my mother, she held my hand and looked at me allowing me to see the life drain out of her eyes... She fought only long enough to be able to look at me once more, to be able to say goodbye to me.
