Chapter 4
The next morning Thea arrived at work, wearing leather pants and a sexy pale lavender lace blouse that showed off her pink hair, which she wore loose. As she got to her office, she found all of her items and books were in boxes. With a growl, she whipped out her phone and was about to call her office assistant, Celia Thornton, when she walked in saying, “I know, I know you want to know why they touched your stuff.”
“Uh, yeah,” Thea replied sarcastically.
“It seems they’re finally moving us. We’re moving away from the creepy lab guys and moving into offices attached to the archives finally. This is the last of your stuff to be moved today,” Celia explained.
At 27, Celia was cute and bubbly. She was a 5’10” gorgeous blonde who had been working with Thea for several years now. Where Glen ran Thea’s home, Celia ran Thea’s office. Between the two of them, they kept her sane, well, as sane as possible.
What made Celia unique was her talent. She was a rare imprint psychic. She was only psychic when it came to Thea and thus was imprinted to her, allowing her to anticipate what Thea needed, before she needed it. That came in very handy when Thea was engrossed in work.
“Well, finally! Probably a good thing. I heard a rumor that Averic was returning. Probably best if we didn't cross paths unless we had to.”
“If you did, do you think that would trigger Damian's jealousy and bring him to you?” Celia asked. “Don't say you don't think he would because I see your wheels turning. I know how much you miss him. You're ready to move past the pain and loss with him. Plus, we both know he’s the only guy for you simply because he already owns your heart.”
“Well, I didn't need to say anything, did I? Now back onto the important stuff, where are our new offices and did you get the coffee machine set up this morning?”
“Of course. That was the first thing I set up. I know how you need your caffeine in the morning. And you’ll be happy, our space is larger and they’re connecting you to the archive directly. No more requesting and waiting,” Celia continued on as she led her boss to the new area where they would be residing.
“Did they finally get the bugs worked out?”
“Seems so. Oh and we will be next door to Kira.”
“Not that she’s ever there,” Thea chuckled.
“True. Well, here we are... what do you think?” Celia asked, showing her their new corner space. Celia’s desk was outside her office and included a nice waiting area with coffee and snacks. Very important.
Thea’s office was large and airy. Besides her desk, it had shelves for the books she used regularly and lots of room to work, which she needed. Unfortunately, at the moment all her stuff was in boxes sitting in the middle of the office. “It's definitely better. Now, let me get unpacked and then I have to go see the old man,” Thea sighed.
As Celia turned to leave Thea’s office she said, “I’ll get you some coffee and a snack.”
“Thank you!” Thea replied as she looked around. She tried to figure out what to unpack first, when she realized something was missing. HER MUSIC! Digging through the boxes, she looked for her stereo setup for her iPhone. She started to dig around a large box and began to grumble aloud when she realized that what she wanted was at the very bottom. With a sigh, she stretched farther, praying she wouldn’t lose her balance.
Sometimes being so darn short was a huge pain. With a yelp of triumph she grabbed the desk stereo. Setting it up on her desk and plugging in her iPhone, she turned up the volume and started playing her favorite music while she continued to unpack.
Dancing around, Thea never heard the Twins walk into the room. Suddenly, she found herself being grabbed from behind and tossed over a shoulder. Screaming and flailing her arms at her attacker she immediately calmed when she saw Keith White standing in the doorway laughing. Looking down, she realized the butt she was looking at belonged to none other than David White. “David, you put me down!” she cried out indignantly.
With a laugh, David put her down and hugged her. “Hiya, half pint!" With a chuckle he touched the top of her head as he added, "Love those purple horns!"
With a roll of her eyes and a flip of her hair, she turned her back on David and her attention to Keith. “KEITH! I swear you are hotter now than the last time I saw you! Gossip says you’re still single. How is that possible?”
“Only because you won’t say yes,” Keith replied with a smug smile and a hug.
“I know babe. What can I say? There is only one of me and so many of you boys. What’s a girl to do?” Thea asked with a pitiful face and a shrug, causing Keith to laugh.
"Still can't control when your Daemoni horns pops out huh?" David asked with a grin.
"Nope, those dang horns seem to have a mind of their own. They always show up when I least want them to. They gone now?"
The Twins both looked at the top of her head and nodded in unison.
"Good! At least in this day and age most people just think they’re part of a cute headband. Anyway, how is the world of the D Corp paramilitary treating you two?”
Keith and David were nearly identical twins and were Centurions, the enforcers and soldiers of the D Corporation. They were deadly and very efficient. Keith and David were the epitome of tall, dark and handsome and the only way to tell the two of them apart was their eyes. David had green eyes and Keith had brown. They were also the biggest gossips around and great for getting all the good juicy dirt.
“Awesome as always! Did you hear about the unicorns that were found recently?” Keith asked.
“Yeah, Lilith told me about them,” Thea replied. “I can’t wait to see them. Are they as gorgeous as one would think?”
“Oh yeah! We all had to be careful because when they turn their attention to a human that human can become entranced,” David explained.
“I didn't know that! So, how long are y’all around for this time?”
“Who knows. But, you know our training area is just around the corner right?” Keith asked her.
“I did, y’all just make sure and keep your grunting levels down. I don't need to have my music disturbed by your noise."
"Little girl, if anyone makes noise it's you. Although it's quite a lovely noise," David added with a flirtatious smile.
"Davey-love, that smile is truly dangerous to every girl you meet," Thea giggled.
"Well, as you have yet to say yes to me, I have to use my gifts to console myself somehow," he pouted.
"I know it’s hard to live without me," Thea answered as she offered David a pity smile while patting him sympathetically on the arm, causing both twins to laugh.
"Now you two skedaddle, I need to finish unpacking before going to see our great leader.” As they turned to leave, Thea, wearing a mischievous smile, smacked them both on the backside saying, "Gotta love a firm butt!"
“Oooo just what I needed!” David exclaimed, making her laugh.
A little while later, just as Thea was finishing unpacking her last box, her cell phone started to ring. As she dived over empty boxes she yelled, "Don't hang up! Don't hang up!"
Reaching the phone she huffed out, "The crazy research monkey; how can I help you?"
“Hey Thea-babe! Guess what? I'm back!” Kira stated excitedly.
"Kira!!! You're what?”
“I'm back in LA. Want to meet at Mythos this evening?”
“Tonight? Sure thing!”
“Seven sound good?”
“Perfect, that’ll give me time to deal with Darius and run home and change.”
“Why do you need to change? I'm sure you look fabulous as always.”
“Because I have to! I have packing dust all over me and I won't come to Mythos looking like that!”
“Did they move you or something?” Kira asked.
“Yeah, they moved me again but now I’m next to your office, the one you’re never at! So, where you staying at this time?”
“Hotel D.”
“The hotel? No way! Come stay with me. I have tons of room and Glen will love having you back.”
“If you're sure, then ok. We’ll figure out logistics tonight over dinner.”
“Perfect! Ok, see you tonight,” Thea ended happily.
From outside Thea’s office, Celia smiled. Listening to Thea’s half of conversations and feeling her corresponding emotions was always entertaining. It was nice to feel some happiness coming from her instead of the normal sadness.
“Ok Celia-girl, I’ll be with Darius,” Thea said a while later as she came out of her office.
“I’ll take care of the empty boxes and make sure all of your electronics are completely hooked up and running while you’re gone.”
“Thank you! If I don’t come back by the end of the day, send the search dogs.”
“Will do,” Celia laughed.
