Chapter 8
It’s been an incredibly long day. Thea had answered more questions about Innara, her family history, her connections to the Dark Realms and Damian than she ever wanted to again. Now she was finally getting home and running a bit late for her meet-up with Kira at Mythos.
Moving quickly, she ran to her closet and picked out a fun outfit and headed to the bathroom. Ten minutes later she swung open her bedroom door and nearly collided with Glen in the hall.
"WHOA! Where are you going, Supergirl?" he asked.
"Mythos. Kira's back. Like the outfit?" Thea spun around for him. She was wearing skintight, hip-hugger, red leather pants with red stiletto boots and a tight cropped, blue Supergirl shirt. It showed off her figure and her fun side all at once.
"Definitely!" he answered, giving her a thumbs up.
"AWESOME! Thanks. Gotta run, babe.” She kissed him on the cheek and ran down the stairs. “Oh, Kira’s gonna be moving in for a while,” she called up to him.
“Fantabulous! It’s been way too quiet around here anyways!” Shaking his head, Glen laughed to himself as he watched Thea wave before heading out to the garage. Thea was as adorable as they came, but lord she could be handful. Having her around kept his life far from dull and when you added Kira to the mix, well, at least he was well rested and up for the adventure.
Thea sped through Los Angeles, blasting rock music on her way to meet up with Kira. Arriving at Mythos, she slammed on her breaks, drifting her car into the perfect parking spot. Oh how she loved her Lady Vanquish. She was sure the designer had her in mind when he designed the car. It was sleek, sexy and just plain fun.
Climbing out of her car and walking to the entrance she saw Sam in his usual position. "Dude, hasn't your butt grown roots sitting there?" she asked him with a laugh.
"Not quite," Sam laughed. "But I get to be all scary to people so I don't mind."
"Awe Sammy-love you'll never be scary to me. You're too much of a sweetie," Thea laughed as she hugged him and placed a kiss on his cheek. “Hey, your prince tried to summon me today. What the heck?”
Sam shrugged. “I don't know. Maybe he's just desperate to see you and is worried you'll ignore him.”
With a snort she replied, "Yeah, right. If he wants to see me that badly he can get off his high-horse and actually come to see me.”
“I'll make sure to pass that on,” Sam chuckled as he opened the door for her and gave her a gentle push inside.
Walking up to the bar, Thea smiled at Liam who was drying off a few glasses. "Yo! Mr. Neeson! Can I get a couple of Cokes here?"
"Mr. Neeson? Watch it, little girl," Liam growled at her. Breaking into a smile he asked, "So Supergirl, why two Cokes? Hot Coke-drinking date?"
"Oh yeah! Hot Coke-drinker promised to meet me here just so I could buy him a Coke to drink. We figured the local convenience store would be too obvious," Thea answered with a roll of her eyes. "Actually, I’m meeting the Great and Wondrous Kira. She’s back in town."
Liam started laughing as he said, "Heaven help us all.”
"She here yet?"
"Sure am!" Kira answered.
"Kira-LOVE!" Thea squealed as she grabbed Kira into a tight hug.
"Can't breathe..." Kira gasped out.
"Oh sorry! Here... a Coke for you!"
"Aww... thank you!"
"So what's going on? What's this about you being ordered back to Los Angeles for a while? Details... I want details!!!" Thea said excitedly.
Laughing, Kira took her by the arm. "Let’s get a table and get some chow and I’ll give you all the dirt about me and you can totally dish about you."
Liam watched as they headed towards a table with a smile. Kira Brown was a bundle of energy. She stood at 5’6” with red hair and a stripe that changed colors depending on the day and bright green eyes. She never failed to entertain everyone around her.
Kira was Thea’s best friend and best and worst influence. As one of the D Corporation’s best Documenters she tended to be rarely in one place for long. If both Thea and Kira were going to be here for a while, life would be fun at Mythos!
~~*~~
“I can’t believe they screwed up your documentation archives so badly. How long do you think it’s going to take for you to fix them?” Thea asked as she munched down on a bite of Mythos’ famous Chocolate Delight dessert.
“I won’t know until I get into the office tomorrow and dig in. How did Glen take the news that I was staying with y’all?”
“He was thrilled of course. He loves you. He always says that your sense of style off-sets my insane work look, which hurts his delicate and immaculate fashion sense.”
Kira laughed. “There is truly no one like Glen.”
“Ain’t that the truth. So, does Marcus know you’re in town? You two are still together right? I was kind of surprised you weren’t staying with him.”
“Yup, we’re still together. But, girly, have you ever seen his place? UGH! Now that is a true bachelor pad. I spoke to him earlier. He has a new investigator in his department, first new blood there in a long while. He said he was going to bring him along to introduce him to the world of Mythos and its members when he came to meet up with us.”
“That would be Keyx Sarris. I met him earlier. They’re working on an investigation involving my crazy family.”
“When isn’t an investigation going on about them?”
“No joke! Unfortunately, this one involves another prophecy about me. So, I’m once again in the middle of the crap.”
“Fun,” Kira stated sarcastically.
As a way to change the subject, Thea asked, “By the way, have you heard about the unicorns?”
“Sure did! I was the Documenter for that one. They’re so incredibly beautiful! Their handler isn’t bad either,” Kira said with a waggle of her eyebrows.
“Don’t let Marcus hear you say that. He may get jealous,” Thea laughed.
“I ain’t dead yet so I can still appreciate nice looking things, ya know. So, enough with the chit-chat. What's up with you and Damian?”
Thea let out a deep sigh as she looked distractedly at the dessert in front of her. “I don’t know any more. He just hurts my head when I try to figure it out. I used to hope for a normal relationship but as with everything else, normal is just not an option. So I appreciate the occasional view and just try not to dwell on the drama that is my family and relationship status.”
It was apparent to Kira that Thea was trying to convince herself of her own words. “Uh-huh. Dwelling is what we both do best.”
Just as Thea was going to reply her phone started buzzing and recognizing the ring, Thea answered with a sigh, “Don’t you ever stop working?”
“I’ll have you know I’m at dinner with Helen, thank you very much,” Darius snarked back.
“So why are you calling me?”
“Are you at Mythos?”
“Yeah, I’m hanging with Kira, why?”
“Filtairn contacted me to tell me the shadows are particularly busy tonight. So make sure you don’t travel home alone. Don’t purposely lose your Centurions protectors, either.”
Thea laughed as she tried to play innocent, “I don’t do that... honest.”
Darius snorted in response as he added, “Don’t be surprised if Damian makes an appearance soon.”
“If the shadows are that active he’ll be in super-stalker protector mode. Yay me,” Thea groaned.
“Just be careful. Damian may not be on my favorites list but he cares about you and will protect you. So just go with it for now, ok?”
“Ok, will do. I’ll be careful, I promise. Give my love to Helen. Night.”
“Night.”
With that Thea hit End on her phone and said to Kira, “You see Ajax?”
“He’s around somewhere. What did the D-man want?” Kira asked cheerfully as she looked around.
“Filtairn is nervous, making Darius nervous. Damian is nervous, making Darius even more nervous. Thus the soap opera drama that is my life continues.”
“They just care about you.”
“I know, but some days I just can’t breathe with all of their caring,” Thea replied as she spotted Ajax and waved him over.
As she watched him approach, she once again couldn't help but appreciate his good looks. With his gold eyes, bronzed skin, and reddish-brown hair that fell just past his shoulders he was just delicious. Add his deep voice, svelte physique and charm and it was no wonder he had the pick of the D Corp ladies.
“Yes, my love?” Ajax said silkily to her.
“Sweetie, I need a strong drink. Something to make Damian and Darius less of a royal pain in my ass.”
Ajax laughed as he replied, “Oh, love, I don’t think there is a drink in this world or any other world that can manage that immense feat!”
“Unfortunately you’re probably right. Just surprise me then,” Thea suggested with a smile.
“You got it, babe.”
“Any idea why everyone is worried?” Kira asked as she watched Ajax head to the bar.
“Innara is causing trouble so the shadows are active. Whether or not it’s anything, well, we’ll see,” Thea sighed.
Deciding she was getting too serious by half, she suddenly broke into a smile and jumped up. “I’m done thinking about all of that. Let’s get our groove on.” Taking Kira by the hand, she led her best friend to the dance floor, determined to enjoy herself despite everything.
