Chapter 16 *** I will go alone ***

[ VERONICA'S POV ]

I slept for the first time so comfortably after the incident happened. His arms were like a security shield for me. Powerful yet peaceful! He didn't let go my hold for the entire night and I found myself enjoying his company behind me.

The first ray of sunlight crawled inside the room through the satin curtains from door. My eyes struggled before focusing on the direction of window. They were open and warm breeze soon followed the entire room.

I attempted to release his hold from my waist. My breathing came out in relief when the hold loosened leaving me craving for his embrace again. I tossed on the bed and saw his sleeping face.

His lashes were long, eyes were closed so numbly as if he had enjoyed my company as much as I did. Tearing my eyes apart from his nose, my eyes fell on his parted lips that was opening and closing like a fish under water.

His lips looked so inviting and luscious that I insanely wanted to taste them for once. I licked my lips at that thought and almost stroked myself. His scent of cologne made the situation worst.

My throat burnt in desire. I wanted nothing so bad but a moment taste of his lips. People said that forbidden fruit taste the best and to me, it was happening the same.

He is sleeping now! Why can't I just take a smooches?

I impulsively jumped in this idea and almost leant down myself at the thought. Then an unfamiliar voice started to ring in my head shattering all my fantasies,
" Are you insane? He is your brother-in-law! "

The phrase kept repeating in my head and I subconsciously drifted apart myself from him hastily. My movements awakened him from sleeping. His pupils shrank before snapping open in shot. He rubbed and yawned at the same time.

Looking at my perplexed expression, he spoke in a soft voice,
" What's wrong with you? What were you doing?"

I pressed my lips together tightly in shame.

How can I tell him that I was actually planning to kiss his lips?

I replied sounding stupid as I felt over my thought that I inteneded to do previously,
" Umm..I was counting your lashes.."

He laughed hard throwing his head back. His milky teeth were appearing in front of my view. I was bewitched, spellbounded by his laughter. Though I was sure that I sounded funny, I was glad that I cracked such lame lies!

At least he laughed after a damn few days of staying rude, aloof!

When I was too immersed in watching his devilish laughter, I missed the extension of his right hand that went straight up over my head. Before I knew what was going to happen, a searing pain broke through my veins.

I cried out in pain and dropped my eyes at my arm. Blake just did it!

He injected me cunningly. I stared up at him with anger and agony. He gave me a playful wink before pulling out the empty injection tube from my skin,
" Caught you, Miss Knight! "

Urgghh! I hate this man!

I was discharged at that morning after going through an initial check-up. My rashes were gone and doctor assured me that I was fully recovered and could go back to my house. Asher didn't show up in hospital anymore. Perhaps he was stuck in some mission and I didn't want to look like a nagging woman by calling him at his busy times.

I stayed at my room recuperating. Blake didn't make things difficult for me but asked the lady caretaker to take care of me. Though he didn't apologise for his rude behavior.

He is such a nerd!

The day went away and evening started to fall down. The sky changed color retaining its black radiance slowly. I was standing beside the window that gave the best view of his floral garden.

My door creaked indicating that someone came in. I looked up, surprised to see Asher in his uniform.

He looked deadly handsome!

I greeted excitedly with a smile,
" Asher! "

He smiled back before eyeing me from head to toe and spoke with a sigh of relief,
" It seems like your health have been nourishing well. By the way, I have come to get you two. My group allowed and now we are going to step in Raven Mafias territory tonight."

Those thoughts gave me goosebumps. I always despised murder or robbery especially harming people for no reason. But at the same time, Victoria's arrival in our life made me happier.

I nodded repeatedly and urged,
" Sure! We won't waste a single day. You go to look for Blake. I am going to change my clothes."

We were heading for the seaside together. Five military zips followed us closely and their soldiers were all armed.

I heard Blake asking Asher in a cold voice,
" So this is the only way to reach them?"

Asher nodded his head frantically and responded before dimming his eyes a little,
" Yes! They aren't connected with the outer world much. All the necessary belongings are carried by their personal ships into the island. We heard that they have everything located inside the island. They don't let anyone pass without their leader's consent."

Asher was mentioning about the way that we were going to invade in their island. Except the ship, there was no way out to step in their territory. All the alternative paths were either blocked or destroyed by their members to maintain their privacy.

We reached at the seaside not long after. A white ship was waiting for us already and Asher helped me climbing through the stairs like a gentleman. His guards smiled cheekily at our gesture!

God! Be serious! We are going in a Lion's den!

The ship started just after we entered. Blake was busy with Asher's in chatting and was holding a telescope in his hand. His face was full of concern and I solemnly hoped that we would find Victoria today!

I didn't want Victoria to suffer!

The troops all took their discerned position. I had nothing else to do except standing beside the railings and enjoy the night view of ocean. I occasionally paid attention on Blake who was busy in scanning with his telescope.

Just when I was distracted by the sound of sea waves, Blake suddenly yelled out anxiously,
" Victoria! I have seen her! Let's board the ship over the island! Now! "

Asher was right beside him and started to warn him seriously,
" Blake! Blake! Calm down! What did you see? Where is she? We can't just land without any precautions."

Blake wasn't ready to hear anything. He was acting repulsive and messed up. He roared at Asher's face,
" I don't care! I am going in! If no one is coming, I will go alone."

Asher tried to stop him but he did something that we never expected. Moments later, I only heard the loud sound of splashing water in the heavy air.
