Truths Revealed

**Squad Leader Lena POV**

"You sure we can trust him?" I asked in a hushed voice. Tom was sleeping right next to me after a blissful night of... tension therapy. With such a wonderful night fresh in my memory, I didn't want a Tom furno fueled tantrum. The man would never put his faith in Devon again.
Kaibec whispered back, "yeah, he's wanted to help Aileen since she fell into Shiuku's clutches. And now there is a new revelation that Devon is still sorting through himself."
"Is Devon with you right now?"
"No, he's staring at a tree while being pelted with acorns. These squirrels do not like him. He ain't even trying to dodge anymore. He's completely zoned out."
With how quiet Kaibec is being, my guess would be he was hiding the contents of our conversation from Devon. Odd, Devon had never really been a spacey guy. Even when he betrayed us, he wasn't dazed in the slightest. He was more just sad.
I crossed my legs stupidly causing the bed to squeak. Tom started to stir beside me. A soft groan and he lifted the covers over his face. Guess I wore him out after all! So much for male stamina; although I could thank mine on the power of the final guardian. Not tiring had some very beneficial pluses. I leered at my husband, more curious about what was under the blankets than who was on the phone with me. I wanted to hear my dragon roar again.
Leaning back on the headboard, I continued with Kaibec. "So what has my old friend so conflicted that he'd stare at a tree and let an evil bushy tail abuse him?"
"He found his true love." Kaibec sounded cross as if he was unsure if he should tell me or not.
Not that Kaibec could see, but I rolled my eyes. "He's lying then. His true love died six years ago."
"No, Shiuku lied to him," Kaibec said in a matter of fact tone.
"Why?" I asked.
A loud bang on my door sent Tom bolting onto his feet. So much for letting my man sleep in. The loud knocks persisted when neither of us answered the door. It wasn't long before the person on the other side starting pounding impatiently. There was only one man who would be so arrogant, assuming his time was more important. His Royal Highness did have some timing huh. Tom and I exchanged a glance. Yup, we both knew it was the unpolished diamond. Damn.
"Aileen is his true love." Kaibec said snapping me back into our discussion.
What did he just say? Aileen wasn't dead! How could she be his 'light in the dark' as demons liked to put it.
I waited for Kaibec to illuminate on his announcement. "Shiuku lied to him about Aileen falling onto a beach when she first...what the hell is that obnoxious banging!"
"The man who should be Devon's Father in Law apparently." I explained.
Just then King Ulrich broke my damn door with some support from Trevor. Tom marched over with sparks of fire dancing above his steps. He may not have said much to King Ulrich, since he isn't a member here, but Trevor was about to see hell. The second in command did have good insticts. Trevor backed away behind the King. We weren't allowed to harm someone under investigation. King Ulrich made the perfect human shield, not that he would be too happy about that.
Never did I think Trevor was the type to throw another comrade under the bus; until he saw my phone. "Hey, whose Squad Leader Lena talking to anyway. She looks super serious!"
Tom turned around noticing the cellphone against my ear. Should I count Trevor now as the third person to double-cross me. At least this time, he wasn't a member of my team. Not that it would alter the fact that I would be getting some revenge for this. Here I was trying to help his baby sister and he snitches on me! Well I suppose he didn't know what I was doing, but still he should watch his back during the next combined training day.
"Who are you talking to? You must have kept your voice low while I was sleeping." Tom extinguished his fire while walking back to me.
*No, you just sleep like a damn boulder on solid level ground.*
"It's Kaibec."
I knew what was coming next. "Put him on speaker. I want to know everything he found out." Tom paused, his eyes widening as he reflected on his wording. "Please dear. You know all of us want to know if there's any news on Shiuku. We all are worried about Aileen and want justice for Kalum."
"Yes, I want to hear from Lucky Feet as well. I'd like to know how far he's infiltrated the enemies base." King Ulrich added.
I put Kaibec on speaker. "Tell that arrogant little King to suck a big one. I'm doing the most I can without getting caught."
"Watch it, or I'll have one of my chefs turn you into a delicious rabbit stew." The King smacked his lips and kissed the tip of his index finger loudly.
Tom sat back on his knees near the the bed. His head rested on shoulder. "So what do you have to tell us."
With no subtelty what-so-ever he re told his story; just the abridged version. "Aileen has a note for Father dearest. She is upset Kalum is dead. Sekai is still being helpful. Devon stopped being a chicken shit and is acting as a delivery boy. No one should be surprised since he is her true love. That about sums it up. Sooooo when can we all meet up and have a formal chat? Hopefully somewhere we can pick up food too. I'm starved and tired of eating berries and fish in this forest." He talked more about his hunger than any of the bullet point sentences he made of our chat.
I'm not sure which face was more comical; Tom's jaw dropping to the floor, or Aileen's father attempting to strangle the empty space in front of him. Daddy's anger mangement issues were showing. I guess it would be story time here soon. The man would want to know what we were talking everything about the bounty of information delivered in a handful of simple sentences.
"We'll meet at Aileen's old apartment. Have delivery boy stop by some fast food place on the way. We'll head over now." I said and ended the call.
Tom stood up and gave an order to his right hand man. "Trevor you drive. I'm sure once we make our way through the forest King Ulrich will have plenty of questions for us."
"She's my sister." Trevor mumbled. "I should get to do some of the talking."
"No you get to drive, Tom will be beside you, and since I am the least biased in this new developement; I will sit in the back with King Ulrich. Let me make myself clear when I say, I'll be doing the talking. You boys shut up unless your opinion is asked. I know you both dispise Devon."
"But-" I'm not sure which male was about to speak. I didn't give them the chance. Confidently, in my satin pjs, I strode out of my bedroom.

"What the hell is this carriage! No...no! I was asking Lena. Keep your God damn eyes on the road! How does this thing run anyway? I don't see any animals. Are they under the hood? Is that the rumbling noise I hear? ....Eyes forward Trevor!" King Ulrich must not have ridden in a car up to this point. We'd barely left the parking garage when he started cursing at poor Trevor. He'd even had the music turned off, for distracting Trevor. I wouldn't complain too much on that one. Trevor's singing was starting to grate on me. Take a chorus of nails on chalkboards, add some babies screeching over a stolen toy, and finish with Sailor Moon's cries from season one. Add all that together and you'd have a front row seat to Trevor's musical talent.
"Calm down Your Majesty-" Trevor started.
King Ulrich was seething. "Don't finish that sentence. I'm about two seconds from painting your leather seats in chunks of green and brown."
Trevor may have put on a strong face, but I did notice him slow down and take turns more carefully. This seemed to appease the King enough for him to close his eyes. Hmmm... Aileen does the same thing while being driven. Must be truly scary for their dimension. Well, couldn't blame them. Driving was a potentially deadly task. Too bad for him, we just didn't have the time for a horse ride now. We should get to Aileen's before Devon and Kaibec.
Speaking of them..."So do you know what a true love is? You seemed...distressed about Devon being Aileen's."
Tom grumbled something unintelligable under his breath. Eventually he would get over himself.
"I'm assuming like soul mates? I have to admit, I never belived in them before. Can Kaibec see them or something?"
I chuckled leaning back in my seat. "No, Kaibec can not. He's not like some cuter version of cupid. As for soul mates, well kind of. All of us have another half. Some never meet theirs, but for the most part; we all have some kind of interaction with them. With humans, we don't realize it. We would feel safe, comforted, and gooy around our other halves, but nothing concrete. Tom and I were so confused when we first met, that we tried to hate each other!"
"Wasn't asking about your love life. I want to know about my daughter."
"No offense...None Taken!" I joked sarcastically. "Anyway demons have a bit more knowledge. Upon first sensing their true loves aura, they will know that is the one they are to protect and love. The aura itself shines when they first meet. Something internal tells them that wonderful aura belongs to their true love."
The King's lips thinned into a tight frown. "Why didn't he recongize my daughter then?"
"Demons only get told once; upon first seeing the other's aura. The aura would turn back to normal after. My guess is, Devon did not see Aileen's face, hear her voice, or find out her name. That coupled with Shiuku convincing Devon she was dead would lead him to never make the connection; unless by an outside interferance. In this case Kaibec and whatever conversation they had. This part is a guess, but I bet Shiuku has been screwing with Devon way more than he knows. " I paused. "The feelings and desire to take care of each other would still be there. Aileen would still bring out the best in Devon and the same vice-versa. Just both of them would be blind to being true loves."
"Heh, I've never felt that way at least not romantically. Not even with Aileen's Mother. Guess mine is still out there; unless God found me unworthy of 'real love'."
So her parents didn't love each other. Aileen would have grown up assuming marriage was like a buissness transaction. Shiuku easily could have used that to his advantage. Manipulating Aileen to agreeing to a loveless binding would be no hard feet for him to pull off. Stupid backwards thinking dimenison. They really needed a movement, or some protests.
"I know all about that. Can't even show up to your own wife's sick bed." Trevor said acclerating on the gas.
"Focus on the fecking road! I don't need you to tell me I failed. I may not have loved her, but I respected her. I would have been there had I found out in time!"
The King's head hit the front seat when Trevor slammed on the brakes. The car came to a screeching halt in front of a cute petite garden.
I wasted no time leaving the car, nor did Tom. The other two followed suit. I reached for my husband's hand, but stopped when I saw his face. Tom's features were sharper looking with a sadistic smirk plastered on his face. At some point in our drive he had let go of his dread and replaced it with anticipation. He wanted to confront Devon.
I sighed. "Don't hurt Devon too much. Keep any damage to his body to a minium."
"No promises my butterfly. I've been waiting for our reunion for quite some time now."
