Chapter 14
“Where are you coming from, Soma?”
Startled, I move back, almost tripping as a result. I was never expecting what just happened. Why would I be expecting to find out that there’s someone in my room in the first place?
The only reason I have not freaked out or anything yet is because I have recognized the voice already. And yeah, I could see who it is as well now but that does not change the fact that I’m annoyed as hell now.
“How did you get into my room?” I ask in the least suppressed tone I could muster in order not to find myself yelling at him — Mark — as I enter into the room. And as for the door, I shut it close the moment I was in it.
“Wherever you went to must have been so important that you actually forgot to lock your room,”
“Oh,” Now that was a realization about what I’ve done. And yeah, I never expected to find out now that I actually forgot to lock up before heading out.
“So are you now going to tell me where you’re coming from?”
I roll my eyes because it was kind of weird the way he is interrogating me about my whereabouts. What business does he have with where I went to? And what business should he have? It’s not like he was going to use the information for anything. Besides, I have not figured out what I need to figure out so telling him was not even an option.
“I don’t think I need to,” my response came swiftly without being shy acidic. Yes, I want to snap at him for being this interrogative, but still, I have to keep calm because he is my best friend. Guess being this overexcited was what was making me react this way to him.
“Okay, forget about all of that, I have a genuine question,” he says, standing up from my bed that he has been sitting on. I frown because I could see that he has ruined the sheets already. “Did you even sleep in this room last night?”
I facepalm myself immediately. “Will you please cut me some slack, man? It’s annoying how you go on and on with the questions. I need to take a nap now so do me the honor and come back later,”
He seems to be observing me with the way he starts to stare at me. It was kind of odd the way he was doing it but I do not seem to want to care about it. My goal now is to get my body on that bed with the white sheet already ruined in a part.
“You have been acting strangely lately, Soma, and you know that.”
“I have not,” I respond, already approaching the bed.
“If anything is going on with you, you know you can always talk to me.” he chips in.
Frustrated at his pressing need to want to get me to talk, I say, “I don’t even want to talk now, Mark. Just get out of my room,” I push him aside when I finally get to the bed and immediately I collapse into it, with the softness of the material eclipsing my body.
“Anyway, I came here most importantly to tell you that we will be leaving today. So you need to get prepared because we should be exiting in the next one hour,” he announces from behind me and I groan.
“Make it two,” I tell him from within the sheets but I am mostly inaudible.
“Two? That would not be good from our end and you know that. It’s going to ruin most of our movements for the day if we decide to choose to leave in two hours and not one,”
“Doesn’t change the fact that I only have the strength to leave in two hours alone, despite the need to meet with Tyrone one last time. I just need to sleep a little.”
“Okay then, take your time. But I will be back here in an hour and thirty so you better be up by then.”
“Hmmmph,” I moan as a way of responding to him but the sheets made it sound like a groan. And from there I shut my eyes close to the world, nulling out my senses in the process as I went in for the needed nap.
With hopes that I would get a nice sleep free from anything that has been happening around me was the only reason I had my senses nullified before sleeping. Although it is helping in terms of getting my body rested, it was amounting to the pressure I have bestowed in me.
Everything went on for a long time and I cannot tell how long I slept. But hopefully, my body acted out of impulse and woke me up at the time I needed to get myself out of my bed. I didn’t even bother checking my phone by the bedside for the time before stripping out my clothes and heading to the bathroom to freshen up.
I do the needful in the bathroom, come out of it and do the same, and once I was in an already picked out set of clothing, I pick my phone up and then head out of the room.
“Why are you all here?” was the question I ask upon sighting three warriors from my pack standing in front of the entrance into my room.
“Beta Mark told us to escort you to Alpha Tyrone’s chamber, stating he would meet us there.” one of them says.
“I see,” I can only say before I then add, “Someone should head in there then and take my stuff out. I have them arranged into their proper bags already,”
The one that had spoken initially chooses to head into the room to do as instructed, and with the other two, I start to walk down the hallway that would lead me away from here to Tyrone’s chamber.
Right now, I was being really mad at Mark that he would think of me in this way. What was he insinuating by bringing the guards to my room to escort me to my destination? Does he think I’m going to run off or something? That’s crazy.
Outside of the hallway in no time and the first thing I do is take in the scenery of the place. The air I take into my lungs felt refreshing, even going as far as easing my anger by a little margin.
“Alpha Soma,” my name is suddenly called by a feminine voice and I have no choice but to turn to the side to catch a glimpse of my caller.
All I can see approaching me is a lady with curly hair. Not just a lady with curly hair, it was a pretty lady. She was stunning with her oiled chocolate skin, her curly hairdo, and her caramel lips. I might sound gay complimenting her that way in my mind but I believe in appreciating something beautiful when you see one.
“Hi?” I say, trying to decipher who she is. But with the scent exuding from her, I am sure of the fact that she is of higher blood.
Is it just me or do I seem to be always taller than the ladies I meet?
“I’m Hailey, Tyrone’s mate and Luna,” she introduces herself to me and I am surprised that I do not even know her.
“Luna Hailey? Oh goodness. I didn’t know it was you. It’s nice meeting you,” out of courtesy, I hold out my hand for a shake and she accepts immediately.
“It’s nice meeting you too,” she says and then withdraws her hand after. “So I'm here to just thank you and your beta for helping me out two days ago,”
I scrunch my face trying to decipher what she is talking about. I do not have a memory of helping her out in any way.
“What did I do?” I have to ask.
“You both helped me stop my son on the day you arrived. I was actually chasing after him that day to get him back inside. You know how stubborn kids can be,”
Like a flash, I recall what she is talking about even though I did not partake in it. I was only an onlooker. But then I was able to remember her as well. She was the curly-haired lady that I was unable to see her face that day.
‘Soma?’ I supposedly hear Mark’s voice in my head and the next thing I do instead of responding is to set up a mental block that would prevent him from speaking with me.
“Oh. Actually, I did nothing. You can thank my beta for that,” I tell her with a broad smile. “And you’re right... Kids are mostly chaotic,”
“Are you heading to Tyrone’s chamber or you’re leaving already?” she asks.
“Heading to his chamber. We still haven’t concluded on the reason I am here. But after that, I’m leaving.”
“Do you mind me walking with you? I’m heading back to your destination right now,”
“No, I don’t,”
And just like that, I hit it off with the Luna on my way to the concluding part of the meeting.
