Chapter 43

SOMA:

I have proof that he is alive. It wasn’t enough smelling his scent off the piece of clothing I saw on the floor, but at least, it gave me a clue about his existence. And the feeling, the bond that I should say pulls me toward him, was still there. Faint, but still functioning.

Even with no idea of his whereabouts until I left the premises of the Dark Moon territory, I already have something figured out. And it is to start to look for a means of saving him myself no matter the cost that it takes. I’m going to make whoever caused this disaster pay in double folds.

‘Cassie! Get my weapons ready. I’m almost at the quarters,’ I apparently yell into the link with my sister as I drive to the main quarters of our pack.

‘What do you need them for?’ she throws back a question at me.

‘Just get them ready,’ and I block off the link because I do not need a distraction from her. I know what she can do. She mostly likes to bug, especially in a situation where I do not need it.

My prayer is not to encounter anyone on the road with the rate of speed I’m going. I could crush anyone and the only saving grace I would have is that they would heal as they are not humans.

I finally get to the quarters, killing the engine as I jump right out of the car at a speed that wasn’t needed. The guards by the entrance quickly move apart so I could pass and I take the chance, rushing straight for my room.

“Excuse me,” I tell one of the warriors who was coming from who knows where, as I try to avoid bumping into him. But I eventually do bump into him except it was just slightly due to talking already.

I expected to see my sister in my room when I arrive there but it is just as empty as I left it. And a little rough too as the training wears I had on before rushing off to the Dark Moon were lying here and there on the floor.

I do not even think to pick them up yet but instead, go to my closet. I need to take out my special gear that I would be needing for my one-man mission that should be taking place today and that is final.

Been searching, but haven’t found a thing. Until I get interrupted by the sound of my door opening.

“Did you bring them?” I say, not even bothering to look in the direction of the entrance to tell who is in here with me now. There are just some people in my life that I can sense without pressure.

“I did,” the response I get is from Cassie, “and are you going to tell me what you need them for?”

I ignore her, squatting to check the down part of my closet with the hope that I would find my special gear in there. I’m sure I would because it wasn’t even in the upper part. Not even a sight of it all.

“Look, Cassie,” I say, finding it a struggle to speak, “I can’t talk right now. Not even in the mood for it. Perhaps you can come back later,”

“You expect me to just go when you tell me to bring your weapons which you haven’t used in years for anything special. The last time you used it for a special event was during the rogue attacks in the borderlines that needed your attention. Other than that, nothing. So what’s the special event this time around?”

I already said it that Cassie was frustrating. Yeah, as supposedly more mature as she can be, she has this frustrating part of her, especially if she wants to get an answer from you concerning something she has in mind. Sucks real bad, I must say.

“For fuck sake, Cassie, there’s nothing special at the moment,” I yell at her.

“Okay, tell me what you’re looking for?”

I stop with what I’m doing, already having it in me to get up and swipe a hand across her face. But I can’t do it. I have no tangible reason other than her frustrating attitude.

“My special gear,” I tell her, giving her a brief look before focusing on my task again.

“And you said there’s nothing special. Guess you’re not so good at lying,”

“Didn’t I tell you already that I do not want to talk?”

“You did. But you should be expecting this from me already,”

“Yeah, yeah, I forgot how annoying you can be,” I roll my eyes as I say that but do not stop with the task of seeking out my gear. I know it should be in there somewhere.

“You won’t find what you’re looking for in there,” I hear Cassie say, that it has me stopping immediately to look at her.

“Why?” I ask.

“Because you took it away from there. Don’t you recall when you transferred it to your section in the training room?”

Slowly I get up to my feet, my mind going to the time I did such a thing. However, I can’t seem to recall when I actually did such a thing that it has me asking, “Are you being real with me?”

“Do I look like I’m kidding?” she questions me back.

“Okay, can we go get it together?” I have no choice but to request willingly. There are times that I do need her by my side and now was one of those times.

“Not until you tell me what’s going on here,”

I might have forgotten about that which we were still battling that would make me think she would follow me to the training room. Oh goodness. “Fine, I'll just go get it myself,” I tell her and then attempt to leave the room but she blocks my path.

“Who says I was going to let you go?” she says, her tone proving that she is serious.

“Get out of my way,”

“Mark says you rushed off to the Dark Moon pack,”

I fold my arms. “And what has that got to do with you?”

“Nothing,” she admits, “but still I would like to know what made you rush off to the Dark Moon like that? Missing Luis so bad?”

I facepalm myself at the thought that I went to the Dark Moon pack because I was missing Luis. Why the hell would I be there because of such a lame reason?

“You want to know why I went there?”

“Do me the honor,”

“I sure will,” I say and then turn around to head back into the room. “Luis is missing,

Immediately I sit on the bed when I get to it. I guess I need a little bit of relaxation after all.

“Missing? How?” Cassie sounds surprised as she asks me that.

I sigh. “An attack occurred in their territory today. And according to reports, some were killed, some were injured, and others like Luis have gone missing,”

Cassie comes to join me on the bed, dumping the weaponry on the floor. “But how did that happen? Who instigated the attack on their pack?”

I shrug. “I don’t know,” I say. “They are still looking into it. But whoever could do that, whichever team, must have a strong force that helped them escape detection. And the crazy thing is that this could be my fault,”

“How is this any of your fault? What business do you have with their territory other than what you have with Luis?”

“Before today, Luis and I had a fight when he came to tell me about him being stalked which didn’t sit well with me because he sounded like he was blaming me for the predicament. You obviously know all of that already. Well, I went to Leonard’s office the next day to confront him because I felt he was the mastermind of the whole issue going on with Luis,”

“You really did that?” when I nod, she says, “How come you didn’t tell me?”

“There was no need to. Besides, it was a time for me to even go confront him because it turned out that he had nothing to do with it,”

“I still do not understand how this has got to do with you,” she says and that is when I proceed to tell her all about the discussion I held with Luis about the continuous stalking of Luis as well as the issue today that resulted to me not giving him the full details about it.

“...so you see why it’s my fault?” I end my explanation with that and she actually nods in understanding.

“I actually do,” she says, “but Leonard should have found a way to figure it out himself. You can’t necessarily blame yourself for the lack of competence on his side,”

At least I’m glad that Cassie actually agrees with me on the fact that I should not be entirely faulted for not giving out the complete details. If Leonard knew what he was doing, he would have gotten the details from Luis before all of this happened. He’s fortunate I didn’t accuse him about that.

“You know, I found out that Luis’ likely friend was one of those killed. A headshot, I heard. The bullet was laced with silver just like the shots on the others,” I kind of blurt all of that out after remembering what Zane told me concerning the crisis that befell their pack.

“That’s so devastating,” Cassie says and then suddenly asks, “Wait, are you about to gon a suicidal mission and that’s why you requested for the weapons?”

I stand up to my feet. “It’s not suicidal,” I rebuff, a bit annoyed that she chose that word.

“But you have no idea who instigated the attack on the Dark Moon pack. Tell me, who are you going to chase after now?”

“I don’t care. All I know is that I will figure something out. I’m going to leave the pack in the hands of Mark until I’m back with Luis and the other taken men. Where is even Mark when you need him?”

“You have no idea what you are saying,” Cassie says and I am about to respond when I hear my name get called.

“Soma!”

I look at the entrance to see Mark suddenly rush into my room. “Where the hell have you been?” I ask him while glaring.

“Put that aside,” he says, and then, “Alpha Tyrone is here to see you.”
