Chapter 9

The moment I start to walk into the warriors in training, they willingly pave a path for me until they have all formed a circle around me. The stares I received from them were apparent to them being confused about what I was trying to do by walking into them. And, to be honest, I kind of liked the attention. Reminds me of a reverse harem setting.

“Alpha Soma...”

I seek out the one who called my name and find him standing directly in front of me with a few of the other men behind him. He is a head shorter than most of them, though, but everything about him screamed experience.

“You’re the head warrior, right?” I inquire from him and he nods in the affirmative.

“Yes, I am,” he says.

“Good,” I look around as I uttered the word. Then I add, “I hope you do not mind what I’m about to do because I will like to take on a few of your men. Need to see how good they are in comparison to my skills,”

I was quick to notice the sudden change of expression on almost all of their faces. Their expressions switched to that of reluctance immediately. But am I bothered? No. It’s because I get that a lot. Most of the men find it hard to go toe to toe with me because they feel I’m a weaker vessel. This situation right here isn’t any different.

But I thought I had a reputation around the werewolf territory. Something that made it known that I was good in combat. Why does it seem like the opposite at the moment?

“Alpha Soma,” the head warrior struggles to say my name as he called out to me. He certainly was finding it hard to put the next words to me.

“Yes?”

“Are you sure about what you want to do?” he finally asks a few seconds later. And he was more comported this time around.

“Your name?”

“Zane.”

“Okay, Zane, what makes you think I am not sure of this? Are you looking down on me because I’m a lady?” Now that kind of sounds feminist. I think I’ll do away with such lines like that next time.

“Not at all, Alpha Soma. I’m only looking after your well-being.”

“And now I’m telling you I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. Besides, it’s just a casual spar. Just give me any of your best warriors so I can test the strength of this pack.”

“Very well then. Kelvin?” he calls out and then someone from among the crowd of men circling me comes through into the middle. Soon as he does that, the others move back to create more space in the middle.

The warrior, like most of the others, was shirtless, revealing his bulging muscles coupled with a sweaty skin. With this kind of physique, it is no surprise that he is one of the best of them. And for him to be the first to be called out means Zane, the head warrior, trusts him when it comes to combat.

His expression was neutral as I stare into his face while we both start to circle around the middle. Just an indication that the fight was about to happen. The first move from anyone would be the major starter.

Before anything could happen, I remember the one who put me up for this challenge. So I turn my head to the side to see him staring right at me creepily while he rubbed on my jacket which he held on the forearm of his right hand.

“Go easy in the fight, Kelvin. It is just a test of skills,” the statement from the head warrior has me taking my gaze off Leonard to look at him instead with a deep frown.

“Easy? Is that how a real fight would be?” I ask the head warrior and then stare at the one I’m about to go up against. “Give it your best shot!”

A brief nod from my opponent and he gives a stance that shows he is about to launch an attack. We continue to round each other for a while, and after I hastily stare at Leonard with a sly smirk on my face, I go in for a quick attack on my opponent.

I’m sure he did not expect my fast pace because he looks slightly stunned when a punch was getting close to his face. He manages to avoid the full impact, though, but it still managed to brush him, pushing him back a little in the process.

With no intention of waiting for a response or a recovery from him, I go for another on his face. Seems kind of odd that I’m going for his face alone, right? Well, that was my cue to distract him from knowing how well I hit. It has worked for others in the past. Let us see if it would do the same to him.

He avoids the next hit but was not fast enough to avoid the one that follows after that which sends him down to the ground.

I look up to observe the reactions from the others and I could see how surprised they were that I was giving one of their best a hard time. Now that was the kind of reaction I love to get whenever I am underestimated initially.

My opponent was now up from the ground with his fists clenched. “Now that’s what I’m talking about...” I whisper in anticipation of what is coming next.

He comes at me in full force. But it was quick enough for me to see as I manage to block the impact with my right arm. From there he starts to dish out punch after punch which I continue to block while being on the defensive until he stuns me by giving me a kick on the leg.

That slight distraction almost gets me a bloody face as I was slightly brushed on the cheek. The attacking mode of his continues until I manage to stop him with my hand holding on to one of his fists.

He uses the other fist to throw out a punch but he hits the air. What comes next is him kicking me on the same leg that he kicked me on initially, causing me to flinch.

Pain exudes from the leg and I twitch my face in distortion. But before he could do any other thing, I change the game completely.

I lunge at him with a knee going into his stomach. And when he bends from how much damage I might have done to his ribs most probably, I put my hand over his neck with my free arm, tighten it, and then go down to the ground in full force.

His face, which was wrapped around my arm when I go down, makes a huge impact on the ground. When I let him go, he seems to be unmoving but I quickly get up. He could only be pretending for all I know.

I stand up to see a slightly bloody face from him and this almost sends me to a bother until I hear his heartbeat which made me confirm that he only passed out. Did I hit his face that bad?

I look up at the others who seem not to produce any reaction from what I just did. They could be surprised for all I know, so I say out loud, “Anyone else?”

My question brings them out from whatever stun they have fallen into and immediately two of them come out and get a hold of the unmoving warrior on the ground.

As they are doing that, another one comes through from the crowd. He was not shirtless and neither was he really built. But he still has that physique of those that have gone through a lot of training.

“Are you the next?” I ask him and he gives a nod in response. “Good,” I say. “Bring it on.”

And before I could think of anything else, he was right in front of me with two hits landing on my body. The impact almost pushed me to the ground but I stood firm.

I had no time to recover or something as more hits were being directed at me. The only thing I could do was block them from hitting my body. With the supposed flexibility of this present opponent, I don’t think I’ll have it easy.

The moment I knew I have to do something is when a girl finally gets through me to my lips. I felt it burst immediately, and the taste of blood got into my mouth.

That kind of angered me because of his much I hate to get my lips affected during a fight. So before another hit could get to me, I stop it with my leg. Pushing the supposed leg away with mine, I go in for an attack that goes directly to his face, giving him back what he gave me initially.

It went from me being defensive to attacking. But it does not change what my opponent has been doing as he keeps on attacking while I do the same. I know this is going to be tough because I have no idea if I will be able to get him down.

One mistake from him turns the table around. He misstepped, making me kick on the face without hindrance. I go for a double and then a third.

Seeing that there was no response from him yet, I take his face and then hit him hard with my knee. And that was enough to put him down to the ground.

I lick my bloody lip and then take my gaze up to stare at Leonard again. I raise my brows to remind him of the challenge and I think he understands because he smirks in return.

But I am not done fighting...
