Chapter 35

SOMA:

A weird thing I did today was to park my ride by the entrance of the territory and then go into the woods to transform into my spirit wolf. Pretty weird because of the timing. Why didn’t I just take my ride to the main quarters and then do what I wanted to do? I can be so messed up sometimes.

But the feeling that came with me bringing out Rainia after a very long time didn’t let me think things through and so I just went along with the flow. I’m certain the warrior guards must think I’m crazy after seeing me suddenly jump out of my car and then instruct them to get it sorted for me.

Rainia had been so delighted when I finally let her out right in the woods. But first I had taken my clothes off to prevent them from ruining in the process of the transformation. They were perfectly good materials that I paid a lot of bucks for.

The cheerful howl from a yellowish-white wolf had been the first thing that filled the air the moment the transformation became complete. Another howl followed before she started to paw on the ground in delight.

Yellowish white? That was the closest thing to a superior wolf which was a pure white. If I had attained that, I could be instilled with godlike abilities as a wolf. But even with the color I got, I could stand my ground against anyone.

As I had gotten to the back of Rainia’s head, I could only watch the environment through her eyes. I let her do her thing because it hadn’t been a period where we would both need to control the tides of events.

She took off from where the transformation took place and then ran like the wind inside the woods. It was almost an hour of doings that she did. Even when she had jumped into the mini-lake at one time in our territory, I had let her be. She deserved all of the fun that she could get.

The aftereffect of all of the running around was telling a little on me now because I could feel my hands and legs go weary. So weary to the extent that if I take a nap now, I wouldn’t be waking up anytime soon. And there are still about two hours before nighttime came.

‘Alpha,’ a general mind-link gets to my head. ‘Beta Leonard of the Dark Moon pack is here. Should I let him in?’

Good. Now a major reason for me to still be awake.

‘Let him in.’ I order the warrior that just contacted me, standing up from my bed in the process.

It was wise of me to have gotten into some casuals already or I would just be ransacking through my closet. A baggy tee and pants were what I have on with my hair let down freely. And with that, I step out of my room to head to the living area where I would welcome the supposed visitor.

I drag my feet on the floor reluctantly along the way. I was in no mood to see anyone at the moment. I just do not have it in me right now.

When I get to the living room, I freely slump on one of the sofas, almost hitting my head so hard on the armed part of the sofa. I ignored the pain, though. My body has had worse.

“I think you do look a lot better in casuals,” the voice I hear minutes after I have shut my eyes close from the world has me sitting up from the sofa. When I do, I realize it’s Leonard standing by the entrance of the living room.

“What are you doing here, Leonard?” I ask him immediately, a little bothered about his presence in here.

“Are you surprised to see me?”

“I wouldn’t be asking if I’m not,” I say. “And the last time I checked, we were not having a meeting that would make me request for your presence in my territory,”

“Take this as a visit from me,” he declares and then comes to the area where the sofas were located and then helps himself to one of the seats.

I observe his clothing to notice that he was just coming back from work. It was the most obvious possibility because of his corporate outfit.

His hair seems a little messy and I could perceive sweat, not excessively, emanating from him. I’m definitely right about where I think he’s coming from.

“Since you’re here then, what can I get you?”

He narrows his eyes at me which I do not find okay. “Nothing. I’m fine,” he says. “You seem tired. Are you okay?”

Good thing that he observed how exhausted I am. I hope he can also observe that I’m in no mood to talk to him.

“Well, I am. But I’ll survive,”

“Are you sure? I could leave if you want me to,”

I shake my head to disregard his request. I don’t want it to seem like I drove him away even if I didn’t want him here. Gosh, I can be so contradictory.

“No, it’s fine. You can stay. I’ve got a few things to do later so a little company would be enough to keep me awake until then,” I tell him while trying to suppress a yawn.

“You might be overworked already. I’m pretty sure you need to rest,”

“I’m fine, Leonard. Don’t worry about me,”

He smiles in return. “While I’m here,” he starts to say, “do you need me to do anything for you?”

I seem not to understand what he’s driving at. “Anything like what?” I have to ask.

“Who knows? Anything that could make you feel a lot better, maybe.”

I’m still not getting the point. Perhaps if I wasn’t this exhausted then I would be with an understanding of what he means.

“I would be lying if I said I have a clear understanding of what you mean. Care to elaborate for me?”

“I wish I could. But it would only ruin the fun of it all. It’s best if you think about it yourself.”

I roll my eyes. Mainly because I know the thought wouldn’t be going through a procession in my mind. At least not at this very moment. There are quite other things I need to think of and that definitely can’t be part of it.

“So, I’ll like to understand something, Alpha Soma. Or can I just call you Soma?”

I shrug. “Your choice, mister,”

“Fine then. I’ll call you Soma,” he says. At the same time, I watch him cross his legs while sitting. Oozes out a different vibe than the one he exudes. “So I want to know what you were truly doing in the Dark Moon pack about two weeks ago,”

My eyes get narrowed almost instantly. I am trying to observe him so I could understand where the question is coming from. Nothing gives away from his expression and I am rather curious now especially knowing that I already made him realize what I had been there for.

“My sister?” I respond, setting a question instead.

“Your sister?” he asks but then his face brightens as if he realizes what I mean by what I just said. “Oh, that. I understand what you mean. But I will have to disagree with you.”

“Why will you disagree with something that has nothing to do with you?”

“Of course, it has nothing to do with me. But it concerns me as well because I am the beta of the pack. And with how well I observe things, I can say I am in complete disagreement with you.”

“Can you just go straight to the point? I need to know what’s going on here,”

This is getting weird. Really weird. Nothing has been making sense since his arrival. Should partially be my fault for not getting into the conversation with him but at least I should get something from all of this.

“I’ve been seeing you with a warrior of mine. Happened twice already. Is there something going on between you two that I need to know of?”

I decide to act oblivious to what he is saying. “And which warrior might that be?”

“Hmph. The same one you couldn’t beat in a fight during the challenge you accepted to get into.”

“If you put it that way, it sounds like I lost in the bout,” I say, intending to correct him. “And yeah, I know who you’re talking about so what about him?”

“I already made the purpose of mentioning him clear. Is something going on between you two?”

“At the moment, no. But he seems a pretty good warrior that I wouldn’t mind finding out how well he trains so I could add it up to my routine. So, if you want to know, that’s what I’ve been discussing with him those times I’ve been in contact with him.”

“Even over the weekend that you came to the Dark Moon pack to train the Luna?”

“Exactly,” I affirm with a nod.

“I see,” he says. “But if you’re seeking a good training routine, you could go for mine. I have one of the best out there,”

“You don’t look to me like someone who invests his time in training. And there’s no denying that,”

He smirks, a little flirtatiously for my liking. “I’m a man of many hidden possibilities. You’ll need to get to know me first before you can know any of that,”

I shake my head at his attempt to play with my intelligence. “And if I don’t want to know you better? Won’t I know all of that?”

“I can promise you that knowing me well is the only way you can find out any of the possibilities. Are you interested in knowing any?”

The smile that comes to my face is a mocking one. He seems to be the type of man that doesn’t quit even if you push him away so hard.

“Leonard, like I told you the last time, I find it hard to trust you. Like right now, you might be saying something and be meaning another. And I sure do not want to find out what you truly mean.”
