Chapter 16: The Confession

David POV

Late last night, I had a street fight. I beat one of the city's crime bosse's son. He was very upset that I had beaten him. But that is the name of the game. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. He was always a sore loser. I had hoped that after 5 years in prison for manslaughter would have changed him. But it did not.

He and his father had threatened to get their revenge. So they followed me home last night. I was careful not to let anyone know about Kara. But somehow they found out about her. So I was in shock when they hassled her today and tried to kidnap her. But how did they find her? I had been so careful not to let anyone know my feelings for her.

I know they want to get their revenge. But they were really going out of their way, over a street fight. He was injured but not that badly. So what was their beef? After helping her get to work, I went to the dojo. I was late, so I was hoping that there would be no more trouble.

I made sure that they didn't follow us to the diner. So I was shocked that Kara was at the dojo early this afternoon. She was upset about something.

"What are you doing here so early?" I asked.

" There were two men that came into the diner," she stated.

She went to the locker room after that. She didn't even bow. That's just great now they are bothering her at work. This is something I did not want. I then bowed out of class and went to the locker room. She was sitting on the bench. Just staring at the floor. I could tell she was deep in thought.

I then walked up to her.

"Are you OK?" I asked.

" What are you doing in here? This is the ladies' locker room," she stated.

" I don't care are you OK." I asked again.

"I'm fine." she stated.

" Good." I stated.

"From now on you will wait for me to pick you up, you will jog with me and I will take you home," I stated.

I then turned around and walked out the locker room. I could tell she didn't like what I said. But I was going to protect her. I have feelings for the girl. I thought she was beautiful. She has the personality I was looking for. I didn't want to lose her because of them.

I bowed back onto the mat. I finished my class and was getting things ready for her class. My only white belt walked-in. She bowed to me and I returned the bow. She then went to the ladies' locker room. I didn't even speak to her. She was the only white belt in my class.

After a while, everyone started showing up for my beginners' class. Sherry and Kara came out of the locker room. They lined up, and we went through the forms again. I then had them practice kicking the punching bag. Kara was struggling with her stance. I went over to help her.

" After class I want to talk to you." I stated.

I then adjusted her hips and when she threw the punch she hit the punching bag so hard she hit it off the hook. It was on.

"Wow, remind me not to piss you off," I stated.

"I'm already pissed off at you," she stated.

"I just imagined it was your face I was hitting." she stated.

She then just walked off. I was in shock she was that pissed at me. That she wanted to punch me in the face. I have never had a woman say that to me. The rest of class she made sure to have Sherry help her. She wanted to be as far away from as possible. Truthfully, I don't blame her. The rest of class went smoothly. Everyone was going to the locker room to change. She went there as well.

I had my advanced class after hers today. I noticed that she did not leave after her class. In fact, she never came out of the locker room. After everyone left, she came out of the locker room. I finished cleaning things up, and then we walked to my car. We got in my car and I turned towards her.

" Kara, I know you're pissed at me," I stated.

" It's that obvious," she stated.

She was being sarcastic. I did not blame her. Her life has been put in danger. I couldn't believe that this was all over losing a fight, more importantly, losing alot of money. People bet on the fighters that are in the street fights. I bet on myself all the time and I almost always double my money. The man I fought last night lost a quarter million dollars.

" Kara, there is stuff I'm involved with that is not exactly on the up and up," I stated.

" What does that have to do with me?" she asked.

" Nothing," I stated.

"I'm not even dating you as much as I would like to. I am not." she stated.

" What did you say?" I asked.

Did she just really say what I thought she said? That she wanted to date me. I did not know she had feelings for me. Yes, she thought I was cute. I knew that much. But she has not really tried to flirt with me or even indicated that she really wants to date me. The rest of the trip to her house was in silence. We pulled into her driveway and she turned to me.

" Look. My mother can not know about what happened today." she stated.

" I agree," I stated.

" I will allow you to give me rides but forget what I said earlier," she stated.

" Are you serious?" I asked.

" Kara I have.", I started to say.

She got out of the car and walked up to her door. Where was her mother? She was usually waiting for her. I will ask her tomorrow. I then drove down the block and parked my car. I could see her house. I wanted to watch it. The kitchen light came on. I knew that she was safe. But I decided to hang out until her mother got home. I couldn't stop thinking about what she confessed to me.

She really wanted to date me. I looked up and there were headlights coming down the road. It was her mother. I then left and went home.
