Chapter 47: A Butt Whooping

Kara POV
After my day with David, he took me home, and my mother was waiting. She met us in the car, and David explained things to her. By the end of the night, she was happy. I was sleeping when I heard my mother scream. At first, I thought that I was dreaming. Then I realized that my mother was really screaming. I ran downstairs, and Marcus and Crystal were there.
"There you are bitch."
" What do you want Crystal?"
" I want my fight right now."
I was not ready, but if she wanted that, I would do anything to protect my mother. I was dressed in shorts and a tank top. I tried to fight to the best of my ability. But she won the fight, and I was left unconscious on the floor. When I woke up, I was at the hospital. My mother was not there. I started screaming for her. Then David ran into the room.
" Baby, it's OK. Your mother is out in the waiting room."
" She has a black eye, but she is OK."
" That is good. That is all that she has."
" Kara, I had to tell her what was going on."
" I will move you and your mother into the guest house."
" I have a moving crew there now."
I did not say anything. I rolled over onto my right side and started at the wall. I had nothing to say to him at that moment. I was upset that the night that I followed him, it ended in me being put into a fight so that I could die. If what happened today indicated what would happen, I did not want anything to do with him. That's the reason that I'm in this predicament. If he had just told me what was happening, I would not be in this situation. I would not have followed him to the fights that night. I would have stayed put.
Now, I'm going to be in a fight for my life, and I barely know how to fight.
" Baby, talk to me."
" I love you, Kara."
I did not want to hear any of what he was saying.
" Please leave."
" Kara."
" GET THE FUCK OUT."
He got up and walked out. I knew he was mad, but I did not care. Then I heard the door open again.
" I thought I told you to get out."
" You did not tell me to get out. I'm the doctor."
"I'm sorry."
He then told me that they were keeping me in the hospital for a few days and that I had broken ribs and a black eye. I knew that I had a black eye. He wanted to keep me in the hospital for observation. I was OK with that. I needed some time to think. He was moving us into his guest house. I would never get time to think. What was I thinking about signing that contract? I love him, and I want to be with him. But these street fights and how violent they are are things that I was unprepared for. It has been a significant stressor for me.
How am I supposed to train with broken ribs? There was no way that I could. The fight is a month away. The doctor examined me and then left the room. Then my mother came in.
" Kara, we need to talk."
" I don't know how you got yourself into this, but you need to get out of it."
I did not talk to her either. I did not want to argue with her.
" I will be packing up the house since I have agreed to move us near David."
She then left. I had nothing to say to her either. I did not want to deal with any of this. The nurse came in and injected my IV with morphine. They started to make me sleepy. I fell asleep. The next time I woke up, David was sitting in the chair beside my bed. I did not want to speak to him, so I rolled over and faced the opposite direction.
" Kara, I'm not going anywhere, so you can pretend I do not exist, or you could talk to me."
" Please leave."
" Nope, I'm not going to leave."
I stopped talking to him. He sat in that chair for hours, only getting up to use the restroom. He did not even get up to get himself something to eat. But he made sure to order my lunch, which I refused to eat. The doctor came in again to do his rounds.
" Kara, you need to eat."
" If you do not eat, we can not release you tomorrow."
Thanks for telling me that. Now, I will make sure that I don't eat. I don't want to go anywhere near his house or with him. My mother came by, and I did not talk to her. I was not talking to anyone because I didn't want to talk to anyone. David sat in the chair all day, and it was early evening before I said anything to him.
" It is your fault that I must fight in a street fight."
" If you had told me what was happening that evening, I would have never followed you."
" Whether it's my fault or yours, it doesn't matter now. You have to fight now."
He was right. It did not matter whose fault it was. The important thing was that I trained and got stronger.
" How's the packing going?"
" You guys are all moved in."
that was quick. His people move fast. I was starving, and the cold hamburger from lunch looked good. I grabbed the table and pulled it closer to me. I then reached for the hamburger and started eating it.
" Kara, the burger is four hours old."
" I'm hungry."
I can't remember the last time I ate. But this hamburger tasted so good. The nurse came in and again injected morphine into my IV. Again, it made me sleepy, but it did not make me sick this time.
" What are you giving her?"
" Morphine, sir."
Why did he care what they were giving me for pain? It was not like he had a say so in my car. My mother doesn't even have a say in it anymore. I'm now an adult and can make my own decisions. But I do value her advice. She gave me advice earlier, and I didn't talk to her. I was mad at her because she did not tell David to fuck himself like he told my dad to do that. I could always stay with him and finish school out there. But I doubt that David would let me go anywhere. He has already paid my tuition. I'm pretty sure you could transfer it.
