Chapter 48: She's Mad At Me
Davids POV
I asked the nurse what she was giving her, and she stated she was giving her morphine. When I asked, she looked at me like why would I care what they were giving her? I'm not going to respond or even acknowledge that look. I will deal with that later. She was hurting and mad at the moment. This is all my fault. If I had been honest with her in the first place about what I was doing maybe she would not have been there that day. But I did not even tell her anything. I was trying to protect her. Now we are in a mess and she is lying in an hospital bed.
She started to fall asleep. I stroked her hair and waited for her to fall asleep. I then went to the cafeteria to get something to eat. Her mother was there getting some coffee.
" How is Kara?"
" She is asleep."
" Mr David, I don't know what you have gotten my daughter involved in, but I'm not very happy about it."
" I know, and I apologize."
She then got up, threw her coffee cup away, and left. I knew she was going to go be with Kara. I finished my food. I then looked at my watch. I knew that Marcus would be at the fights tonight. I was not scheduled to fight tonight, but I was going to make an appearance. I'm going to fight him and his bitch. I went to the dojo and changed into some fighting clothes. I then went to the garage where the fights were held. I walked over to the people who were in charge of the fights.
" What can we do for you?"
" Marcus and his woman attacked a fighter outside the fight."
" Oh, really."
" Yes, I want to fight them both tonight."
" Are you sure?"
" Yes."
"Very well."
My fight was the next one. I stretched and made sure to put the stuff on that stops bleeding. I knew that I was going to get hurt, but right now it was about getting revenge and not letting them get away with what they had done. I was going to make this right. Kara was hurt in the hospital. She was not ready to fight one person but two. Her mother was furious with me. She had every right to be. Her house had been broken into, and her daughter had been hurt. Her daughter was young and had a future. I was going to have them move close to me. The announcer announced the fight.
" The next fight is going to be David against Marcus and Whitney."
Marcus and Whitney were shocked. I knew that would throw them off their game. I had the privilege of fighting anyone anytime I wanted. I knew I needed to make this right for Kara. They closed the ring so we could get the fight underway. Marcus lounged at me, who backed me up into a corner. Whitney then came over and tried to punch me in the face. I ducked where she missed. Marcus kicked me in the stomach, but I immediately got up and kicked him in the head. The kick knocked him down temporarily. Then Whitney charged at me as if she were a charging bull. She missed and ran straight into the wall behind me. That knocked her out. She was bleeding heavily from a wound in her head. Marcus looked at her and ran to her. He scooped her up and held her. She was bleeding badly. I took off my shirt and wrapped it around her head.
I called for an ambulance. Whitney was severely hurt. I did not think she would survive. But if she did, she would not be ready to fight for at least a year or more. I had made sure to tell them to take her to a different hospital from the one Kara was in. If Whitney regained consciousness, she might try to hurt Kara. Marcus was visibly upset, and he was pissed. The announcer said that the fight would continue. That was how it was here. They closed the ring again, and we started fighting again. Marcus was using way too much energy to fight. He was not using control, and that was going to cause his downfall. He would wear himself down before I would even take him down. I decided to dodge his kicks and punches. He was wasting his energy. That is a good thing. We danced around a little bit longer. He was throwing punch after punch, kick after kick.
He finally wore himself down. He was panting and sweating. That was my cue to start fighting. I threw a punch and hit him in the head. Then I kicked him in the groin. He dropped to his knees. I hit him as hard as I could in the head and knocked him out. He was bleeding from the head. The medic came and checked on him. He called another ambulance and sent him to the hospital where Whitney was. They are lucky that I did kill them with one lucky hit. I could knock them out, and they would be dead. But Whitney's inability to fight was enough. Marcus would be pissed that he lost the fight. However, that did not matter. I got paid for my fight, then I went to the locker room and changed. I needed to get back to Kara.
I knew she was doped up on morphine. She was asleep when I left. I had no idea if she was awake by now. However, I wondered if she was still mad at me. I was hoping she wasn't mad at me anymore. I went home, took a shower, and put on some sweats. I then went back to the hospital. When I got to Karas's room, the door was shut. I quietly went into the room. The blanket was over her head. I sat down to talk to her. I reached up to pat her on the butt. When I did, I felt pillows. I threw the blankets back, and she was nowhere to be seen. She had used the pillows and blankets to fashion something that looked like a body.
How did she get past the doctor and nurses? I ran out of the room and to the nurses' station.
"Did you see the patient in room twenty-three leave. "
" No, sir, she should be in there."
"She's not."
I then ran to see her mother. Her mother was crying in the lobby.
" Why are you crying?"
" I tried to talk her out of it."
" Out of what?"
" She said she was going home, packing her bags, and leaving."
Her mother then looked up and saw that I had a black eye.
" What happened to your eye?"
" I got into a fight, but I won."
She did not ask any more questions. She just looked at the door. I got out of the door and jumped in my Mustang and slammed it into drive. I drove at one hundred miles an hour.
