Chapter 34: Consequences
Kara POV
She was so gentle when she applied the ointment and ice to my lip. I was grateful for the soft touch. My lip hurt something fiercely. I have never been hit by a man before. That really shocked me. I wanted to cry because of it. But if I was going to practice material arts, that was something I would have to get used to.
I went into his living room. It was painted brown and there was a brown couch and recliner to match. There was a big 50-inch smart TV hanging on the wall that was to the north. There were 2 windows that had brown curtains. You could tell that a bachelor lives here. There was also a bookshelf with alot of books on it. I went and laid down on the couch. I was just about to fall asleep when David came in.
" Kara, what the hell were you thinking?" he stated.
I was still trying to come back to reality. After I regained my vision, I noticed he had a bloody lip, the start of a black eye and he was holding his ribs. I hope he won his fight.
" I wanted to know where you were going and why it was such a secret," I stated.
" You could have been killed or worse." he shouted.
I shrunk back from him yelling. He was terrifying when he was mad. His eyes were almost black.
" If you had just been honest with me and told me what was going on, I wouldn't have followed you," I stated.
"She's right boss." Marcus spoke up.
" Do not take her side. You know what happened to females in those fights," he stated.
" I'm going home." I stated.
" Like hell you are." he stated.
" You cannot keep me here," I stated.
He then stormed off to his room and slammed the door. All three of us were sitting in the living room just staring at each other.
" Ms. Kara, I will take you home now." Marcus stated.
But before we could leave, David came out of his room. He walked straight up to me and wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close to him in a hug.
" Beautiful, I was worried when you got hit that you would be seriously injured." he stated in a softer tone.
"I'm sorry David," I stated.
He then kissed me.
" Yes, take her home and I will call her later," he stated.
" Kara, we have alot of work to do between now and the day you fight in that place," he stated.
I had completely forgotten that someone had challenged me to a fight there. But I did not know if I was going to be fighting a man or a woman. I was utterly terrified. I have just started proper training. How was I going to be ready to fight in a street fight? Marcus ushered me to the car.
" Ms. Kara, he really cares for you," Marcus stated.
" I know." I stated.
"Kara, people get killed in those fights," he stated.
All the blood drained from my face. I now know why he didn't want me involved in that world. From what I have read, those street fights have no rules or no penalties. The thought of it bothered me. The rest of the way to my house I kept silent. I did not know what to say.
When we pulled into the driveway, my mother was waiting. I didn't even think of her seeing my lip. She was going to interrogate me. I had no idea what to tell her. I can not tell her the truth. She would make me quit taking karate all together. She already did not approve of some of my choices.
She was already upset about David. I guess I'll face the music and deal with the consequences. I was in no mood to fight with her. It was Friday night and I had to work tomorrow morning, and it was already late. Maybe I can convince her to argue with me tomorrow after I get off work.
I slowly got out of the car. Marcus had already opened the door. He was just standing there waiting patiently for me.
" Ms. Kara, it is none of my business, but we all have to face our consequences," he stated.
" I know Marcus." I stated.
I got out of the car and slowly walked up to the porch where mother was waiting. She had her arms crossed across her chest and she was tapping her foot. I felt like a child again. I knew she wasn't happy.
" Where have you been?" she asked.
" I was out." I stated.
" You were out. Is that all you have to say," she asked.
" Yes." I responded.
" Then your grounded for two weeks you." she stated.
" Whatever," I stated.
I then stomped past her and up to my room. I slammed the door and threw myself on the bed. I startedto cry. I cried so hard that I cried myself to sleep. When I woke up, my alarm was blaring, and I had several missed calls and text messages from David. I did not care. After last night, I did not know if I wanted to see him again or not.
I also did not want to see mother again either. She just started to get upset before she gave me time to explain. Nobody wants to talk to someone who has a mad expression and their arms are crossed. That usually means that they have already come to a decision and aren't willing to listen.
So I did not even try to explain anything. I did not have to work today. It was the day before classes started. I needed to prepare for class. I got up and took a shower and changed my clothes. I then went down to breakfast. Mother was waiting. She had breakfast made and the table prepared. We atr breakfast in an uncomfortable silence. I knew that it wouldn't last long before she spoke up.
" Kara, what were you doing out so late?" she asked.
" I was at a fight," I stated.
"Who's fight?" she asked.
" You mean a karate tournament," she stated.
" Yes, a karate tournament," I responded.
I was not going to tell her that I was at a street fight. Since I wasn't even supposed to be there.
" What happened to your lips?" she asked.
" Oh I got hit in the mouth," I stated.
