43| Does Grimes have a mistress?
Leah's POV
Maggie had asked us to get into the cart with her. She wouldn't look me in the eye, and kept looking at a different spot when talking to me.
It pissed me up, and if I had a stand, I could have insisted on driving on a different cart. I would have felt better that way.
"You should go in," she said to me while standing at one entrance of the cart.
I was at the other side, and Octavier was by my side.
I turned to her. "Please...."
She got my point, and simply went inside before me. It was to avoid sitting side by side with Maggie.
"How is your father?" She asked Octavier. "It's been long since he came around."
"It's—"
She cut in. "I understand."
The tension inside the cart, the tension she was creating, would not let us breathe in freely.
The day was already becoming an afternoon, and the cool breeze touching our skin was close to going on break.
We didn't talk all throughout the ride. I had decided to put Celine in mind, wondering what she would look like from the last time we met.
I raised my head to look at the other side of the cart just out of sight seeing, but my eyes caught Maggie's. What was she up to? Or was I to ask her?
That would be a crazy act.
She snapped her fingers, calling me and Octavier's attention, but she pretended she hadn't made a sound.
The cart arrived at Octavier's house.
Roshan and Celine were outside, and she was in a wheelchair, being moved around by him.
A strange feeling crept into me at the sight of her. It was the fear of my dream, and there she was as another outcome to prove its potency.
It was one of the most vivid dreams I had. We did warn her, but how was she going to cancel the concert she had with different alphas from different packs without a notice?
It came with a price she couldn't pay, and she fell for it.
Guilt, I felt some weight of guilt and pity for her. But the smile on Roshan's face as he moved her around….
"Roshan!" Maggie called out.
Their faces brightened to see us.
Roshan walked to her, bowing his head to greet. "Alpha!"
Her steps slowed down as she walked closer to Celine. She must have had the same feeling as me. Octavier's head was low.
"How has she been lately?" She stopped walking, just staying on a spot.
"She is just okay."
Maggie continued her walk till she got to Celine's side.
"Celine." She touched her face, and that dry expression that was caused by her attitude to me went off.
Celine smiled. "I've been expecting you."
"I would have come earlier, but...." She looked at me. "Something came up with Leah."
"It's alright, Ocavier told me." She held Maggie's hand closely to her chest. "It's good to see you at this bright time."
That was obviously true. Before she had seen us, her face was bright as Roshan moved her around. The time of the day also made it seem so. The last time I visited, she was laid in bed, and her pale skin did weaken me.
It was better she came out to experience sunlight, I thought to myself.
"We should go inside," she said. "Let's make it a proper visit!"
Laughter ensued between them.
We got inside, and the sitting room was a bit dark for the time of the day, and it was likely because of the inactivity in it, such that the windows had been closed without anyone bothering to open them.
Octavier was mostly with me, who would think of opening them? Roshan?
The middle table also had some dust on it, but didn't bother us. Who cared about cleaning up? Octavier was always out, and I hoped my suspicion wasn't true.
"Don't mind the dust," Octavier said.
"Who cares about that?" Maggie responded.
Celine's eyes were on me, almost choking me, and then she would smile. Her expression kept on changing.
She turned to Octavier. "Please entertain them."
"I should get some drinks."
Maggie did not refuse. She was beside Celine, and the form of friendship they once had resurfaced. That was good, I thought, at least I was sure it would give Octavier a good feeling.
"Leah." Celine finally called me after an unusual gaze. "Your dreams are always real, and you need to take precautions even if it means denying yourself."
"Exactly, she should." Maggie came in.
"You need a massage," I said.
She was finding it difficult to turn to each side. Maggie, following what I said, went behind to massage her neck. Something I did not expect.
"I have seen Grimes," she said. "I had gone to their pack to make a performance."
Maggie had eager ears, everyone of us. I got a bit of suspense with a wish that she would say something sweet to disregard my dream.
"There was something strange about his father." She went on.
Grimes' father was dead, and it felt that what she wanted to say had high stakes on me.
"What's strange about him?"
"It's his love and hatred for women."
Love and hatred? Maggie gave me that look without averting her gaze from me.
"He always flexed around with his mistresses."
Mistresses? What if Grimes had other mistresses other than the lady I saw?
I did a comparison.
"I heard he killed one of them."
My heart sank. That was a bomb exploding into our ears. Her eyes looking at me were actually trying to ask me a question I was willing to answer at the moment.
Roshan who had left us to assist Octavier in bringing the drinks returned. "It was chaotic."
Celine went on. "His action caused a brain disorder to Andrea, his wife and mate."
I wasn't looking at any of them, just had my eyes on my thighs. All this while, I was searching for a reason why my dream might not be true, but their words to my ears....
"Leah." Celine called. "Does Grimes have a mistress?"
