57| Euphoria spoiled the moment.
Leah's POV
Euphoria? What was she doing by our side?
"Sorry," she said. "I'm sorry."
She was carrying a table, and she made us move backwards so she could place it between us. I wondered about the use of the table as it only acted to separate us.
"I'm sorry for the inconvenience," she turned around to leave.
There was a slight change in the mood Grimes and I had managed to achieve, and it simply meant that we had to start afresh.
I could no longer touch his hands because of the table, and our hands were placed on it. Our lips had almost touched, but we could not go right into it.
"Euphoria should not have come here!" I grumbled.
He understood.
"Calm down." He tried to kick start the chemistry by making me feel at ease. "I'm not running away, and we have all the time in the world."
Did he smirk? It sounded as though he was using my actions against me, because I had run from the mating hall, he was telling me he wouldn't run away. Just as I did to him.
"I have something to ask you." He stretched his hands across the table to hold my hands. "Sometimes, I feel that I'm being delusional."
What was he talking about? I had the intention to show concern by pressing my fingers against his hands.
"What makes you feel delusional?"
He was looking at me in the same manner I had used to get him close to being intimate before Euphoria came in. I didn't avoid his gaze, instead I moved my head forward.
That was a sign that we had gone forward in our relationship.
I rolled my eyes. "Tell me, wouldn't you?"
He was hesitating to speak.
"Tell meeee." I stressed my words.
"Can I call you my mate?
His question startled me at first, but when I thought of it, I had been the one drawing back, and making our relationship suffer.
"Aren't we mates?"
We had entered into a deep conversation, something we would have done some time ago.
"But..." He cut himself shot.
What was hard to say?
"I was getting confused about you feeling the same way about me."
I thought of explaining to him about my dream, but Maggie was definitely against that. The fact that we were having a conversation for a longer period of time made me feel as though strings had tied us together.
Maggie's idea for me to observe and get clues about him was already failing because all I saw was love and affection. It could be that I was no longer myself.
"I feel the same way towards you."
That covered everything, and it avoided the issue of the mating ceremony. It could not be so, he was simply withholding his questions so he would not spoil out build up.
He chuckled, and it sent electric waves all over my body.
"Could you sit on the table?" He asked.
I thought of the fact that we were under watch and wanted to refuse, but why would I care, it was just to sit on the table, wasn't it?
"Anything for you." I was seated facing him, and his hands were touching my thighs.
They weren't just touching, he was moving them all over, even to the extent of going close to my pussy.
My body was giving way, and so, I rested my hands on his shoulders, reciprocating the feeling by giving him a light massage.
"Are you enjoying it?" He went closer to it.
I was nodding, not trying to speak up. I feared it would break the connection.
"You don't mind that we are under watch?"
"I do not care, the sensation is above that."
Wait! I had just admitted that we weren't alone. I had spoiled Maggie's plan to keep him under watch without his knowing. How was he going to bring out his real self if he knew about our wariness? But how did he know?
I forgot about that to focus on our open act.
"You haven't told me why you wanted us to stay far apart."
He still had that in mind! I did not answer.
He went a bit further by slipping his hands into my dress, instead of touching from outside, through the fabric.
The pleasure amplified in an instant as I felt his finger trying to find its way into me.
"Leah!"
What again? I felt like pushing Euphoria away. It was obvious she was doing it on purpose.
"What the hell do you want!" I shouted, straining my voice.
Grimes quickly took his hands off my body, and I got up from the table, biting my lips.
Euphoria knew that the crazy act she had done had spoiled the moment, yet she placed the wine and glasses she was holding on the table.
"I'm so sorry."
She left without waiting for me to say any other word. I was beginning to doubt that we were still friends.
Grimes maintained his composure, and went ahead to turn the wine into the glasses, pretending as though nothing had happened.
"Have a glass." He passed one of them to me. "Can you come to my pack?"
No, I couldn't, Maggie wasn't going to approve if that.
"I would talk to Maggie about it."
"I understand." He didn't push further.
We drank the wine in silence for a few minutes.
Grimes stood up to leave. "I will come around some other time, but you could try to come to my pack."
I just nodded. He pained me for the way things had turned out.
I walked side by side with him, and Maggie was already at the gate. He told her he was already leaving, and she did a perfect job of acting as though she was in full acceptance of him.
When he was about to step outside the gate, Emaus got to us. Grimes turned backward to look at him, and they stayed that way for a while. Was there a dispute between them?
"I didn't know you were coming," Emaus said.
