52| Thoughts on Grimes

Maggie's POV

"How am I going to talk to her?” I said to myself.
Aaron was asleep on the bed, and I didn't bother to disturb him. He had been acting strange, and I thought it was because of everything happening.
“So Leah has experienced sex?”
It was a sudden change that was not expected by me. Grimes had thrust into her. I imagined how it all went and how the feeling had been for her. Had he used force on her? Or was it out of seduction?
If it was any of those, then it was obvious that Leah hadn't craved for it, and that would mean he used her for his satisfaction. But she was okay with it. I had heard Octavier asking her about it, and her response showed her interest.
She came home safe, and also in a good mood. Was that not something to consider?
“She is upset with me, and I know it.”
“Try acting up an apology.”
Aaron startled me, so he wasn't asleep?
“She will fall for it,” he added.
“I can't do something that cheap.”
“It's between a mother and daughter, what can be so cheap to do?”
I sat down quietly, trying to allow what he had said to sink into me.
“You will realize that there is nothing to worry about.”
I stood at her door, with my ears pinned to hear what she was saying. I had noticed Euphoria was inside, and they were having a conversation. Leah was planning to sneak out again, and she was pleading with Euphoria to help her out.
I opened the door, and pretended I had not heard anything.
Leah would not speak to me, but my acting covered up everything.
“What if Grimes is not as we think?”
I could tell she had the same thought, and her interest was piqued.
“But he fits in perfectly as the man in my dreams.”
But she was not all about her desires to be with him. She was trying to reason.
“Can we risk trying to know about the way he behaves?”
“I don't understand,” she said.
“Can you tell the character of the red-eyed man in your dream?”
How was that even possible?
“It was just for a short amount of time, but what kind of behavior are we expecting from someone who brought his sword to my head?”
The room was becoming too hot, and I felt it was better if we went outside, to the garden.
“Let's go outside.”
She pulled off her night wear to change into something else. Something simple. While she changed, I couldn't help allowing my mind to form a picture of how she had pulled off her cloth for Grimes to see and touch her body.
Oh my little Leah.
She wasted a lot of time, but I didn't complain. Perhaps the sin I had committed against her had made me feel she should do something wrong to me as a punishment I deserved.
We got to the garden, and sat on the same bench we had used.
“It was at this spot you asked me to raise my skirt so you could see.”
She was still offended. I thought she had gotten over it. Obviously she hadn't.
“That was a past event.”
“Is yesterday a past event?”
“That depends on you.”
I had made it obvious that I was acting. She could be offended by that.
“Is a genuine 'sorry' bad to say?”
“You would have told me that was what you wanted, but you said I didn't need to.”
“I was also acting.”
Girls like her could be full of troubles, and sometimes they prove hard to understand. She was one of them, and she was simply exhibiting it.
“Okay, sorry,” I said. “Is that enough?”
She nodded. “Let's continue our conversation.”
“There's a very low chance for mates to be against each other, but yours has brought a new record everyone might have to learn from.”
“It's because of my dream.”
“And your dreams have always been true.”
“But the one that concerns Grimes has brought confusion to us, and everyone knows it.”
Just then, we saw a boy and a girl that had come with Emaus at the other side of the garden, talking and laughing like two lovers. They did not know we were in the garden as they were too engrossed in their playful act. They kissed, and it stamped the fact that they were lovers, probably mates.
“That's how it's supposed to be for Grimes and me.”
I thought about it, looking at them as though they were samples for us to follow, and a funny thought started to pop in my head. I wanted to wave it off, but I kept on seeing its necessity.
“What if I told you to spend time with Grimes?”
Leah felt I was simply joking.
