44| Leah as the topic of discussion

Leah's POV

Celine's question kept on resounding to my ears, and my answer was going to prove a point.
“Does he?” She asked again.
“I don't think so.”
Maggie faked a cough. “She had been in his palace.”
Did she have to say it to them?
I glared at her.
“And she hadn't told me if not....” Her eyes being focused on me, made it obvious that she just wanted to get at me.
She had a comb on Celine's hair, softly going through it without looking at it. I was her main focus.
“Did something happen between them? Something that always happens?” Celine asked.
I almost hid my face for fear that she was going to spill out my sex encounter to them.
“Who knows if they haven't had sex?”
All eyes came on me, waiting for me to say something about what she had said.
Celine winked at me. “Did you go that far?”
I took some seconds before coming up with an answer. “No, nothing happened.”
It was likely that they did not believe me. I had never heard of any mate meeting up without having sex. What if they didn't believe me?
That would not matter to me.
“What other thing happened between you two?” Maggie asked.
“Nothing.”
“Nothing? Didn't you spend some time with him? How come nothing happened?”
I clenched my fist, refusing to give an answer to her question, why was she trying to make me speak what she already knew?
“How do you feel?” I asked Celine with the aim of changing the topic.
“Just trying to stay happy no matter what I'm going through. It's a way to ease the pain.”
I nodded. I had successfully changed the topic of conversation.
Roshan went behind her to hold her shoulders. “And it's because I'm always with her.” He knelt down slightly in front of her, touching her hands. “Isn't it?”
“My beloved husband,” she said, lighting up her hazel eyes.
Her beauty showed even more as she fondled her golden hair.
It was a love display, something I had seen Aaron and Maggie do. The stake against me had limited their love affairs.
Then there was a knock on the door.
Octavier opened it, ushering in a boy about my age and a woman.
“Roshan!" She rushed to hug him, and when she laid her eyes on Maggie, she bowed down completely. “Our dear alpha!"
I knew them. They had always come to visit us in the palace. Her name was Darling, and her husband was also one of the gammas we had in our pack. But one thing about them was the fact that my dreams also had an effect on them.
“Leah, you look beautiful,” she said.
I forced a smile.
“The dream mistress.”
I lost the smile on my face.
“Your predictions have always been accurate.” She used a calm voice, but I could feel the resentment in it.
She looked at Celine for a while, and then looked at me in a way to pass a message.
Her son was deaf, and she felt I had caused it.
“That should be okay,” Maggie said.
She also felt her resentment towards me. We stayed quiet for a while, and no one was trying to start up a conversation.
“Ooh.... The drinks.” Roshan broke the silence.
The drinks Octavier served was fresh juice in a big jug, and she turned it into glasses.
It was good that Maggie stopped Darling's talk about me, I was already starting to lose the control I had.
“I'm sorry if what I've said offended you,” she said. “I won't pretend everything is alright.”
“It's okay.” I waved it off.
“Thank you.” She placed her glass on the table. “But I heard something.”
Everyone of us kept our glasses on the table eagerly waiting to hear her speak.
“I heard you are having issues with your mate.”
It had gone further than I expected, but how did she know about the main problem I had?
“How did you know?” Maggie asked.
She gave a surprise look. “Isn't it a trending topic?”
A trending topic? How was that possible when we only discussed it in my room, and sometimes the dining room.
“Are you surprised about it?”
We were more than surprised.
I looked at Octavier to know if she had any explanation for it. She shook her head to show ignorance.
“At the mating ceremony.”
Ooh.... That was possible. The mating hall was not really inside our pack, it was a gathering place for members from different packs. Some members of our pack might have seen me.
“Sagio told me about it.”
“Who is Sagio?” I asked.
“He lived in the Crescent pack, but had to leave when he was threatened to spill information about you.”
There was no way I could understand what she was talking about, why would anyone be threatened to spill information about me?
“Alpha Grimes had tried to make him speak, but he left the pack without giving him a notice.”
I never expected Grimes to have gone to such an extent just to get information about me. I didn't expect it, and at the same time had no clue about him.
That was when I realized I needed to talk to him, I needed to know who he was. It was that important.
“His mistress still stays with him.” She continued. “I wonder if you know anything about that.”
I wasn't surprised as I had seen her myself.
“But Leah, you told me he has no mistress,” Celine said.
“I'm also surprised as well.”
“But.... You don't really seem so. How much do you know about him?”
I didn't answer. The answer was already obvious, why the question?
And then she was looking at Octavier for an unusual amount of time that was easily noticed by me.
Octavier was not sitting on any of the sofas, she just stayed in a corner. The conversation had earlier taken my attention from her.
She came to me. Celine's eyes had told her something, I had concluded.
“Can you excuse me for a few minutes?” She asked in a formal manner and a hint of plea in her voice.
Everyone was looking at us as she took me outside till we were away from their sight.
“Promise you will listen to me as a calm and understanding person.” She joined her palms together in a pleading manner.
