46| Taking everything in good faith
Leah's POV
Celine reinforced my suspicion at a time when my doubts about Octavier hiding something from me had almost cleared up.
Octavier simply dropped the glass on the table, and it was time for her to do the explaining to me.
“Can we go outside again?” She asked. “Just a minute.”
If Maggie had her way, I was sure she would have followed us outside. Her ears were that itchy to hear. That feeling that comes up each time I feel I am about to hear something painful began to grow in my chest. It even affected my breathing.
Of course what she was going to say might bring some pain. Her keeping it a secret had tagged it that way.
“We are outside again,” I said. “I had told you I was ready to keep it a secret.”
She was finding it really difficult that I wished there was a way I could make her believe I was going to take it in good faith.
It could be the worst thing I had ever heard, but I was prepared for it.
“The person I'm trying to tell you about is Grimes.”
I thought as much.
“I had a one night stand with him.”
“With Grimes?”
She nodded.
It wasn't as painful as I had expected. It was something that she would have said without drawing attention from everyone.
“When was that?” I wanted to confirm.
“Long before he became your mate.”
“Why the pretense between you two?”
She was avoiding my eyes, scared to see the reaction on my face.
“It was a masked night out, one of the night parties I attended.” She finally raised her head to look at me. “I hadn't seen his face, we were both in masks.”
So who was I to blame? But how did she know it was him?
“How are you able to tell he was one of those men?”
“Because his eyes aren't just red.”
I did not understand what she meant by that, his eyes aren't just red? But his eyes are always red to me, and I was starting to get used to it.
“Please explain.”
“His eyes vary with the day, it's not really a red color.”
Nothing was making sense.
“How do you know that?”
If it was just a one night stand, then how had she deduced the nature of his eyes?
“Because I had asked him just before having....”
“And he told you all that?”
“I also confirmed it.” She placed her hands on her chest, perhaps trying to ease her breathing. “The next morning, his eyes gave out a red color, but the night before, they were light blue.”
“Blue at night, red during the bright hours of the day?”
“Maybe you would have to confirm it,” she said. “If it wasn't that risky.”
“You mean you've had sex with him, and he's totally unaware of it?”
She said an almost quiet “yes", and I decided to act strange to her. I hugged her. It felt like a dream to her.
“Does that mean you've forgiven me?” She wouldn't believe it.
“There's nothing to forgive. It was before we became mates. No issues.”
I held her hands as we walked inside the house, ensuring my face was lit up. I also tried laughing to prove to Octavier that everything was okay. Maggie, Roshan, and Darling would have spent most of the time that we weren't inside with them to map out what Octavier was telling me.
The smile on my face caused Celine to have a strange expression on her face. Dots weren't connecting, I was sure of that.
Maggie and I left almost immediately, staying mute to each other. Maybe I was winning the game, I could tell that she was eager to start up a conversation, or was regretting why she had started the awkward silence between us.
“Emaus has not finished his conversation with you,” she said. “We might have to talk after you meet him.”
We might? Have we lost our relationship as mother and daughter?
“I might do strange things.” I announced.
Just then, the cart stopped in our palace, and I got out, searching for Euphoria. She would have so many things to tell me, I had thought.
“Please.... Emaus has some points he's trying to make.”
Was she pleading? I thought she could keep up with what she had started.
“I have to free up my head,” I said, walking from where she was.
I wanted to take a nap. As I went towards my room, my eyes were searching for Euphoria, hoping she could give me some gist of some things I really needed to know.
I saw a group of maids gathered together.
“Please tell Euphoria to come to my room.”
I entered my room, and the morning activity still lingered in me. Actually, the activity of Grimes going in and out of me. I didn't regret it, not in any way. If I could rewind time, I would do the same thing over and over again.
I brought out the mirror that had been in my wardrobe to place in front of me. I just wanted to look at myself. I was still wearing the pants that was blood stained.
I pulled it, every piece of clothing I had on me to look at my naked self.
“So Grimes did touch this body?” I turned around in front of the mirror trying to see myself in it.
I touched the pants that was placed on the bed. “And he broke the thread to get himself fully in me.”
I heard a knock on the door, and it made me rush to wear a plain gown from the wardrobe.
I opened it. “Thanks for coming.”
It was Euphoria. She came as requested.
“I observed a lot, and everything is strange to me. I can't fully grasp everything.”
I laid on the bed, moving to the other end while she laid next to me.
“Then tell me your observations.”
“You would take it in good faith.”
Why was it that she was using the same language Octavier had used on me?
“Just say it.”
“Emaus is planning to take you to the Moonlight pack.”
That was never going to happen. I also had my say in matters concerning me!
