55| The night with Octavier might still have a place

Leah's POV

Emaus did not let me settle with the amount of joy I had for Maggie telling me that Grimes could come to visit me. He kept on telling us the bad signs about him, and completely breaking my heart.
"When the time comes, you would know," he said while leaving the table to the quarters Maggie had given to him.
Everyone had kept mute when he'd said that. He had made Grimes a threat by telling us of how his pack was more powerful than ours.
Maggie's warm hand touching my hair was all I needed to stay calm. Her touch sent a relief to me.
"Everything would go the way I'd earlier told you." She whispered into my ears as though they weren't any form of threats against us.
"It would?"
And she smiled at me. "I will send an invitation to him, right away, and I know he wouldn't hesitate to come here."
The process was done in my presence. She wrote a note, and handed it to one of the messengers.
"I'm sure he will be here in a short time."
My face warmed up. "Thank you."
Aaron got closer to us, still in the dining room, and he was simply looking at me in a way that made me feel uncomfortable.
"I heard you have gone beyond boundaries," he said.
Gone beyond boundaries? What was he talking about?
I caught Maggie giving him an eye signal not to talk about that.
"How do you feel about it?" He went on despite the signal.
"I don't really understand."
"You've had sex."
I felt like hiding my face, why was he bringing up the topic a second time? That should be a past event, and it didn't make sense that he wanted to deliberate on it.
"How do you feel about it?" He repeated his question once again.
"I feel okay about it."
"You don't regret it?"
I shook my head. "No, I don't regret a bit of it."
He touched my jaw before leaving for their room.
Something still disturbed me, and I felt I should tell Maggie about it, but then, Octavier came in, and I displaced the idea of telling her.
Octavier and I hugged tightly, and she seemed startled by it. It wasn't the first time we had hugged in such a way, but she wasn't comfortable. I noticed it. Guilt was seen on her face, and it couldn't be hidden from me.
"Mom! We will see you later."
We left Maggie to go to my room. Octavier was acting stiff.
"Grimes is going to come around!"
Her face twitched. Of course she was happy, but she couldn't flow with it.
"Leah, I'm sorry," she said. "I know it's painful for you to know that I'd slept with your mate."
Was that still a topic? No wonder she was acting strange.
"I told you it's simply a past event. It doesn't mean anything."
She wasn't convinced, and was trying to read the expression on my face to know the next thing to say.
"Are you sure you're... okay?"
I pressed my hand against her shoulders and tried moving her a little for her to know I had no bad feelings concerning her.
"I'm perfect. Maggie is trying to make it possible for me to spend time with him."
She loosened up. "Really?"
It became obvious that she hadn't heard me the first time.
"Yes! She had sent him a letter for him to come around!"
"He's going to come around?"
"Yes."
We sat on the bed, going back to the usual state we always were.
"But I have an issue to deal with."
My statement changed the mood I had created, and it was time we did some reasoning.
"And what's that?"
"When I went to his home, I met his mistress. She might have an effect on our relationship."
"Have you told Maggie about it?"
"No."
Euphoria came into the room, and as usual, Octavier did not always flow with her, but that didn't make me cut myself off from her.
"You should get someone to watch out for her, so you can know her every move."
That was an idea, and I glanced at Octavier, waiting for her to give her thought on it.
"Okay," she said.
What did she feel about Euphoria? I had no idea, and Euphoria also did not mind her. Octavier was not hiding her displeasure, and her little reaction anytime she came to me always hinted at it.
"I know someone who can keep an eye on her, someone in the Crescent pack."
I was interested in what she was saying, and I knew Octavier would have been in support of it, but the fact that the idea was coming from Euphoria made her look for loopholes in it.
I thought of bringing them together.
Maggie opened the door to see us in a discussion. About two hours had passed since the time she sent the message to Grimes.
"Grimes is here."
My mood charged up in an instant and I rushed to clean up.
Octavier acted stiff, and she whispered into my ears.
"What if he remembers me from that night?"
That was a strange thinking of hers, but I hadn't thought of it.
"It will be too awkward for me to look at him," she went on. "I won't mind hiding myself from him."
"I'm not sure he would remember anything like that."
We were spending much time dressing me up, and Maggie came a second time to call me out.
"Don't keep him waiting!"
I was dressed up, or maybe too overdressed for a simple meeting. My outfit made it look as though we were doing a wedding feast.
"You are going to stay at the hall with him, and you will be under watch."
Under watch? I was okay with that, how long as I could spend some time with him.
Octavier and Euphoria followed me to the sitting room, and Grimes was seated, looking at me the same way he would look at a wonder. Of course I was. But then, he looked behind me to fix his eyes on Octavier.
Could it be that he remembered the night with her?
