Chapter 13
In Scarlett's Perspective:
My mind was a mess right now. I didn't know if I should confront these feelings.
Lucas was my uncle in name.
I mean, if I were really together with Lucas, our relationship would become a "stain" in his life.
Whether in Gabriel's eyes or the others' from the Bennett family, Lucas was perfect right now.
It seemed like he was born for the Mafia—cold, ruthless, smart, and courageous.
But now, the person who left a stain in his perfect life was me.
I still remembered when Lucas brought me back to his villa. The Bennett family was very displeased with me, and Gabriel was particularly angry about it.
Lucas took me in against everyone's objections, which already caused quite a bit of controversy within the family.
And now, he said he loved me.
I turned my head and watched the ice in Lucas's glass slowly melt. Mom never told me what to do in a situation like this.
Suddenly, Lucas grabbed my fingers and gently squeezed them.
He smiled slightly, his eyes always looking forward, but he suddenly hooked his pinky around mine.
Was Lucas trying to comfort me?
My heartbeat quickly steadied.
I admitted his comfort worked. He understood me better than myself.
"I thought you'd be happy. Charlotte is a good choice," Julian said with a puzzle.
"Yeah, we didn't expect you to go against Gabriel's wishes." Dominic reacted the same way. "The Winters family is an aristocratic family."
"Charlotte is young, sweet, and understanding," Dominic said, his face showing a hint of lust.
His friends immediately chimed in.
"If you want to have some fun after marriage, Charlotte wouldn't mind." After saying this, they all looked at Lucas with envy.
Others saw this as the perfect life. It matches perfectly with the "perfect" Lucas.
"I won't do that," Lucas said with a somewhat helpless smile.
They seemed used to Lucas's reaction.
Thinking back now, when I walked in, although the room seemed chaotic, there was no girl by Lucas's side.
"Yeah, we know," Lucas's friend responded, a bit drunk, "We really don't get you, never looking for women. Who are you staying pure for?"
The others immediately chimed in, and Dominic even walked directly in front of me.
"She really is a lucky dog," he said, his eyes filled with desire, making me feel uncomfortable.
I immediately shrank into Lucas's arms, avoiding his gaze.
Dominic seemed satisfied with my reaction, licking his lips as he sat back down.
"If you didn't want to marry into the Winters family, why did you invite us for a gathering?" Julian nonchalantly spread his hands. "We thought this was your bachelor party."
Then, Julian took a deep breath, propped his arms on his knees, and leaned forward with a sly smile.
"You can't be that boring," he said, looking at Lucas with a suddenly darker gaze.
This was what a Mafia look like.
"I like working with smart people," Lucas said, downing his whiskey. "Charlotte has been very active lately."
As he spoke, he held me tighter.
"Recently, she's been associating with different Mafia heirs." Lucas's expression turned cold. "It appears the Winters family is no longer content with their current influence in politics and business. They want a piece of our territory."
I only dared to sneak a glance at Lucas; his demeanor felt unfamiliar to me.
"What do you mean?" Dominic squinted, his expression becoming serious.
"The Winters family is not only seeking to marry into the Bennett family but is also covertly engaging with the Cole family," Lucas remarked, tapping his fingers on the table, "Such an ambitious family must be completely eliminated."
A sudden chill emanated from Lucas, making me feel extremely terrified.
That was Lucas's killing intent; he really wanted to kill the Winters family.
It wasn't until that moment that I realized, despite his facade of gentleness and reliability to me, Lucas's true identity was that of a member of the Mafia.
I had never imagined he could be so ruthless, and fear gripped me as my body started trembling uncontrollably.
"Great! I've had my eye on Charlotte's face for a long time." Dominic suddenly got excited. "When her family falls, I'll make her my sex slave!"
He said this without anyone finding it strange, and Julian even chimed in approvingly.
"I've been eyeing Winter Wolf Motors for a long time!" Julian looked very excited.
Winter Wolf Motors was a famous company; was it also part of Charlotte's family?
They were terrifying!
I nervously twirled Lucas's clothes, unable to control my trembling body. I knew I shouldn't be here.
"Why is the girl in your hug so timid?" Dominic seemed to notice my reaction. "Why don't we just ruin her? She's heard too much tonight; I can't let her leave like this." He laughed, reaching out to me.
"Get out!" Lucas suddenly ordered. His voice wasn't loud, but it was like a lion's low roar.
Dominic and Julian were momentarily taken aback, exchanged a smile, and exited the room. They might have believed that Lucas would personally ensure my silence.
I finally understand what kind of Mafia Boss Lucas was in their eyes.
Their trust in Lucas probably came from his ruthlessness and cruelty.
At this moment, only Lucas and I were left in the room.
"Are you scared?" His voice was soft, and his gaze very gentle.
I was indeed scared. But I was even more angry.
"Charlotte just likes you," I glared at Lucas and said, "She didn't commit a crime; you can't do that to her. That's against the law!" I pushed Lucas's shoulder hard, trying to get up from his arms.
I won't compromise on matters of principle.
Lucas, however, was indifferent. He sneered and grabbed my neck.
"The law? Does the law control the Mafia? The law can't even reach this bar." I could feel that Lucas wasn't using force; his fingertips weren't pressing on my throat.
Of course, I didn't agree with him. I still held his hand, staring at him defiantly.
I could sense Lucas's disapproval of my actions as he panted heavily and abruptly pushed me onto the sofa.
"Do you know what would have happened to you if you hadn't met me today?" Lucas's expression changed as he reached for my thigh.
